UNIQUE
FLAVOURS
There is no doubt that the most beneficial
impact of the recent improvements in
winemaking techniques has been on the
quality of Europe’s white wines. It is no
overstatement to say that these are the
wines that have most impressed, excited
and surprised Society buyers in the last
few years. The real excitement for wine
drinkers is that the very best are made
from local grapes, many from historic
(sometimes ancient) sites, which offer
fantastically individual flavours.
This selection covers 19 wines from
Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and the
south of France. They all share a freshness
and vitality that makes them especially
appetising, yet they are all uniquely
different. Do try them, you will be
impressed. The two mixed cases on the
back page will ensure a summery wine
rack full of southern European sunshine.
‘The most dramatic improvements in wine quality of the last five years have come from
the heartland of wine production, Europe. Suddenly the smart white wine buys have
been found in Italy, Spain, Portugal and the south of France.’
