both Cheer teams took 2nd place at the UCA Milwaukee Cheerleading

With their 2nd place finish, IKE Cheer earned a bid to compete with the
nation’s best high school cheer teams at the 2014 National High School
Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, FL! The national competition will
take place in Disney World in February. Both Cheer teams also took 1st

SENIOR
MOMENTS
EACH MONTH WILL FEATURE A DIFFERENT IKE SENIOR WHO WILL PROVIDE WORDS OF WISDOM AND
HELPFUL ADVICE THAT ONLY A SEASONED VETERAN CAN PROVIDE. THIS MONTH’S ISSUE FEATURES
IKE SENIOR, ISAAC SURPRENANT.
IKE: What sports and activities have you been involved in here at IKE? What advise would you give a younger
student who is unsure about joining a sport or a club?
IS: I have done football, wrestling, tennis, ping pong, marching band, jazz band, symphony orchestra, and the
school musicals. I would advise anyone thinking about joining a club to just go for it, the more things you try,
the more experiences you will have.
IKE: How do you find the time to juggle everything you are involved in? How do you think your experiences here
at IKE will help you in the future?
IS: With all the activities I am involved in, scheduling them all can sometimes appear to be an impossible feat,
however, the most important aspect in juggling my activities is communication. Most coaches and teachers
are glad to work with your schedules so you can pursue multiple passions. In the future, this experience of
scheduling will help me balance my collage and career schedules.
IKE: Out of all the events you are involved in throughout the year (e.g., marching band, football, orchestra, etc.),
what is your favorite?
IS: My favorite event I have done in high school is football. Football gave me a chance to bond with my peers
over hard work and mutual respect. Like many other teens, my football career ended my senior year
making it all the more special. I will never forget the feeling of taking the field with my best friends.
IKE: Since you attended IKE as a 7th grader, what is your earliest memory of IKE?
IS: My first significant memory at Eisenhower was doing the musical Willy Wonka Jr.. This musical was helped me
meet new friends while having a great time and was a highlight of my 7th grade year.
IKE: What do you know now as a senior that you wish you knew as a 7th grader?
IS: I wish that I knew how important it is to be confident in yourself. One of my biggest regrets in middle school
was not bumping up a math class to take algebra in 8th grade. The reason I decided not to was because I
didn’t think I could handle it, which I now firmly believe I could have. Additionally, I lacked the confidence
to make new friends and try new things. Now that I have confidence in myself as a person and am able to
strive for harder goals.
IKE: In your opinion, who is your favorite IKE teacher? No pressure, this only goes out to all the teachers at IKE : )
IS: Although there are many great teachers at Ike, my personal favorite is Adam White. Mr. White brings an
energy to the classroom that I had not seen before. While allowing his classes to have fun, he knows when
to real the students back in to learn. If I didn’t have Mr. White for AP US history I
probably would have dropped the class.
IKE: In your opinion, what has been your favorite IKE course? Again, no pressure : )
IS: My favorite Ike course is AP Biology. Although this class can be annoyingly hard at
times, it has a very broad range of learning methods such as labs, class discussion, and
lectures that kept me interested. This class is also great because it has a balanced mix
of teamwork and individual work so that you never feel left behind, but you also need
to take personal responsibility.
IKE: Finally, what is your favorite memory of IKE?
IS: My favorite memory at Ike is my senior year homecoming game. Despite the fact that
I left the homecoming game with a sprained ankle and dislocated shoulder, I never
felt better. I had won a close game with my close friends and being king was just icing
on the cake. As I talked with my peers while gazing into the bright fireworks I realized
how many people cared for me and how much I had grown since 7th grade. It was a
moment that will stick with me forever.
THANKS ISAAC...HAVE A GREAT REST OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR!!!
IKE GIRLS BASKETBALL
The girls basketball season began November 18th and includes
several new faces within the program. The IKE girls basketball
coaching staff welcomes two new coaches, Andy Monfre as
the Varsity assistant and Elyssa Henry as the head Freshman
coach. Coach Monfre is a graduate of Eisenhower and brings
energy and spirit to the team. Coach Henry is an integral part of
the Athletic and Activities Department here at IKE, brings several
years of coaching experience to the Freshmen team, and will
be an important factor in developing the future of Varsity Lady
Lions.
This year’s varsity team returns two seniors. Senior Captains Jessa
Hahn and Anthie Katris will lead a young talented squad that returns several key contributors from last
year’s team. Returning All-Conference player, junior Sammy Kozlowski, will take on the role of point
guard. The rest of the junior class consists of Sydney Cheung, Taylor Crubaugh, Kaitlyn Kurudzda, and
Katie Schlegel. The Lady Lions will have a large contribution from the sophomore class this season:
Chelsea Brackmann (returning varsity player), Emalie Hahn, Ashley Hofmeister, Kasie Ereyni and Abby

The Eisenhower High School forensics speech team officially kicked off the 2013-14 season this past
week with an informational meeting for returning and prospective members. At the meeting,
performances were given by past state competitors and returning seniors, Meredith Braza, Storytelling,
and Rishil Mehta, Oratory; and junior Elizabeth Garfinkel also spoke about her experiences in the
category of Humorous Solo Acting.
Forensics offers something for everyone! Students may choose from fifteen speech categories,
including demonstration, storytelling, radio, playacting, prose, poetry, informative and persuasive
speaking. The forensics competitions run from the end of January through mid April. Forensics is a
wonderful way to meet new friends, improve your public speaking skills, and it makes for a great
addition to your résumé.
Last year, our forensics team of thirty members had a very successful season, winning numerous
individual and team awards. Highlights included winning the Woodland Conference championship
and placing third at the Westosha festival. Twenty members also qualified to compete at State.
If students are still interested in joining, it is not too late! Please see Mrs. Donlin, Room 240/English office,
or Ms. Johansen, Room 241/English office, by Friday, December 20.
At our first meeting of
the season, Meredith
Braza, returning senior,
performed an excerpt
from the short story,
“Rumpelstiltskin.”
On Tuesday, December 3, Eisenhower hosted a
training for future forensics judges. Several of our
teachers attended, including (shown left to right)

NEW BERLIN MARLINS BOYS SWIMMING
The New Berlin Marlins Boys Swim and Dive Team is looking for big things
coming into the 2013-14 season. Head coach Jeremy Walden is entering his
second season with the team after taking over the head coaching role
midseason last year. “We have a lot of experience coming back and have
some great top swimmers along with a lot of depth. That combination
makes for a very solid team,” explains Walden. “If this team comes in and
works hard, and competes the way I believe it can we will be right up there
competing for a conference championship.”
The team comes into the year returning all but one varsity swimmer from last
year, all be it that swimmer was Woodland Conference Swimmer of the
Year Matthew Olenchek. However, the Marlins do return everyone else
from there sectional team last year; including an All-State and 1st team AllConference swimmer Zach Solie and 2nd team All-Conference swimmers
Jackson Wannamaker(captain), Taylor Petrauski(captain), and Sam Nigbur.
These four seniors will be joined by a host of other seniors, nine more to be exact, including sectional
swimmers Zach Stoltenburg (also the team’s top diver) , Amin Phakhrudan, and Devin Hetzel. The team
will have help immediately from younger swimmers, including sophomores Alex Weiss and Auggie
Brenzel both who spent all last year on varsity as freshmen. Other lettermen returning include: Ross
Wick, Joey Corstvet, Sam Hider, and Ata Erdrogan. Also expected to contribute to the program right
away is new diver junior Mitch Baker and freshman swimmer Dane Detert.
Coach Walden is also very excited that the program has grown from 21 to 32 athletes. “We have a lot
of new swimmers joining the program this year and while a lot of our younger swimmers don’t have a
lot of competitive swimming experience, they are hard workers who are already improving in the
water.” “I am confident with the help of Coach Heft they will improve and become an important part
of the future of this program.”
Please come out and support your New Berlin Marlins Swim Team!
