Ledger Aug07 - Lutheran High School
Lutheran High School LEDGER From The Senior Administrator - What a blessing our girls volleyball team has been to us! Congrats to Coach McCulley, her assistants, and the girls. So many positive impressions of LuHi have blossomed from the Bloomington experience. What follows are my own experiences with IHSA staff and Redbird Arena personnel, as well as a letter we received from a Scales Mound parent. We have much to be proud of...and to be humbled about as we see the Lord’s blessings. It was a great honor to watch our young women participate at the State Volleyball tournament, and we are extremely proud of their Third Place trophy. A great accomplishment with promise of more to come. Congratulations. I want all parents and students to know that as an official of LuHi, it meant even more to me that an official of IHSA and one of the ushers at Redbird Arena went out of their ways to tell me how impressed they were with our fans and, especially, our young people. “I’ve worked these for many years, and your kids are some of the best I’ve ever seen.” I knew that would mean a lot to you, too. It makes, “We are...Lu-Hi!” mean even more. Hello - I am a parent from Scales Mound, Illinois. I just wanted to take a minute and tell you that you have so much to be proud of in your volleyball players, fans, and parents. We have played a few teams this year that could use a lesson (or ten) in good sportsmanship. Not your school. We were greeted while walking in by a Springfield fan, talked about how everyone in Scales Mound was in Redbird Arena today....and wished each other luck. After the game, I saw a Lutheran mom and made it a point to tell her what a great game your girls played. She actually stopped to talk to me. I cannot tell you how impressed I am and many of the parents are with your school and kids. We are making the long trek from home tomorrow at the same time as today. We want to root for Springfield Lutheran as they beat Toledo Cumberland. Our team is mainly seniors, and I don’t think anyone anticipates this ride next year. But you have a young team, and you can bet next year as State rolls around, I will be looking for your Crusaders November 18, 2010 • Vol. 1, Issue 6 to take it all. Congratulations on a GREAT season, a GREAT team, and AWESOME FANS!!! Praise the Lord! LuHi recently received a $500,000 gift from an anonymous donor to the 30 Years of Blessings campaign. This generosity edges us ever closer to requesting total funding and drawings for the project! Please continue your prayers and your gifts! To date over $850,000 has been pledged or donated toward the Phase I Goal of $3 million. This effort will allow LuHi to replace its outdated and temporary classroom building, and replace it with expanded computer technology, music, and traditional classroom capacity that ties into the existing structure. OPEN HOUSE This year’s Open House had a tremendous response. We have 11 eighth graders enrolled to be Crusaders next year, and reports that there are another 11 ready to sign up! That puts us way ahead of prior years! Nothing, however, markets the school better than our former and current parents. Please continue to spread the word to your friends and fellow church members. continued on p. 2 From The Principal No School January 4th Each year during Spirit Week, the classes compete to see which class can raise the most money for the Ralph and Judy Nitz Spirit Scholarship. As an added bonus, if the student body raises an average of $1,000 per class, they are given an entire day off of school. This year the school raised over $4,000, this means that on January 4th, the first day of the second semester will be a day off of school. continued on p. 2 School Motto:“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Lutheran High School LEDGER • November 18, 2010 From The Senior Administrator (continued) page 2 End Of Year Giving Lutheran High School You will be getting requests from all over from charities and agencies, asking you to consider them for your end of the year, tax-saving, gifts. Please don’t forget us in your Christmas and end of year tax giving, including roll-overs and stock dispersals. If you need help, we can provide it. Thank you! Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Central Illinois District 3500 West Washington Street Springfield, IL 62711-7923 ACT/SAT Code: 143-963 Car Donations Do you have a vehicle, running or not, that you wish to get rid of? The Foundation For Excellence at Lutheran High School continues to receive such vehicles for disposal, sale, or use. Contact Mr. Fischer at 546 6363. From The Principal (continued) However, the real bonus comes later next year when the Recruitment and Scholarship committee notifies the recipients of the scholarships from this fund. Thank you to the students for their enthusiasm in procuring donations and to the donors who so generously gave to this scholarship fund. Those still wishing to contribute the Ralph and Judy Nitz Spirit Scholarship or any other scholarship fund should contact Mr. Curt Fischer 5466363 ext. 120. Half Day of School November 24th Wednesday, November 24th, we will be running a half day schedule, all eight (8) periods will meet for 25 minutes. School will be dismissed at Noon in an effort to help families and teachers who need to travel for Thanksgiving. Sno w Da ys Snow Days School closings due to inclement weather or late starting times will be announced on WTAX (1240), WMAY (970), and WCVS (1450), WLUJ, and WICS Channel 20. Once the decision is made to cancel school for that day, a recorded message will also be included on the phone answering system, often this is the easiest method for parents. Students living at a distance from the school may have different weather conditions or concerns than those living in town. During periods of serious ice, snow, cold, or strong wind conditions, we will defer to the parent of that student to determine the safety of their travel and adjust our attendance accordingly. While we want students in school, it is more important that they be safe. Thank You to LuHi’s Great Fans The letter Mr. Fischer shared (see page 1) is not an isolated incident. Numerous times during the state playoffs, school administrators and fans made unsolicited comments about how impressed they were with our students and fans. Student News - October Crusader of the Month The Crusader of the Month for October is a student who has worked diligently on the fall play. However, he has not yet received the recognition he deserves because he’s been behind the scenes. This student volunteers countless hours of his own time, including some weekends, to make the sound system run smoothly for the drama department. In fact, he’s worked tirelessly on the past three LuHi drama productions. In addition, he was a tremendous help during school clean-up day. Along with Dylan D., he took on the monumental task of organizing, sweeping, and mopping the north hallway. The Crusader of the Month for October is KRIS G. (Also nominated: ABBY H., DYLAN D., KYLIE B.) Also, volunteers are needed to load up chairs and other items to be brought back to Lutheran High. ADVERTISING: One person is needed to write one or two articles a month for the Ledger.
