By Sharon Harris-Zlotnick
Hello Atlantic
County:
12-piece Buffalo wings ($7.50), cheese steaks and pizzas. “We have kept our
prices low. Our consistently good quality comes from always using the same
ingredients. We never buy cheaper ingredients to prepare our food,” she says.
If you still need more food, try three big-selling sides. The garlic bread, with
($3.75) or without ($3.25) cheese, and the $4.75 jalapeno poppers will hit the
spot.

BEATLEMANIA NOW
TIt is sometimes hard to believe that the 1960s were so long ago, and filled
with turbulent, seemingly permanent change. For those who lived through
many of the events and pop culture figures, few had the impact on so much
as did the Beatles.
Beatlemania Now, the 75-minute musical tribute at the Tropicana, continues
through October 5. The show demonstrates how the “Fab Four” captured
the music, styles and controversies of that tumultuous decade. The multiple
phases of the Beatles’ career are showcased in various stages, with appropriate costume changes.
STILL THE SAME
Thanks to owners Liberia Giulietti and her brothers Joe and Vinny Scotto,
Nino’s Pizza Festival is the same as it ever was. If you have bought a slice of
pizza within the last 23 years, you can rest assured that it will taste the same
and be prepared with the same quality ingredients. Nino’s has been a family
enterprise since their parents purchased the business in 1988.
Giulietti says their method to guaranteeing quality and consistency is
simple…never put someone in charge who is not one of the three siblings.
Joe is the main cook throughout the day.
Do you remember watching the Beatles for the first time on the Ed Sullivan
Show in February 1964? The hundreds of screaming girls in the audience
predicted the enormous impact they would have on the musical world.
A fascinating compilation of film footage takes the audience through the
decade’s evolution, from easy innocence to the tragic assassinations of John
F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. The era of free love is
everywhere, evidenced by the peace movement of the late 1960s and the
continuing protests of the Vietnam War. Watching this terrific film footage is
a reminder of how brilliant the lyrics were for their time, which explains their
endurance and continued popularity almost 50 years later.
The long pizzeria has abundant seating for 40 at 10 booths for a quick, casual
meal. The large takeout counter has a full menu listed on the wall. The multicolor six-panel paper menus look like beautiful works of art. Each section
is designated with banners that depict the Italian flag colors-red, white and
green. There are also beautiful scenic shots of the Italian coastline and its villages, plus numerous pictures of delectable items that will have your mouth
watering to try them.
There are few places that will offer the same great daily specials for $5.99.
Giulietti says that, for example, one can order a special pasta, chicken Caesar
salad or dinner platter-without a salad-that also includes garlic bread and
a beverage. Although specials change regularly, she says that if a customer
requests something as a special, she has a good heart and will usually keep
the price lower.
Three of the more popular Italian dishes served are the Baked Ziti, Meat
Lasagna and Chicken Parmigiana with spaghetti, all priced at $12.50 with
bread and salad. Portions are large, and Giulietti says that even the small
strombolis ($10-$10.50) are enough for two to three people. The larger ones
($17.50-$18) will feed five.
That “generosity” extends to the list of subs ($5.75-$6.75) on long, rectangular rolls. Giulietti says, “Our subs are one size, but they really give our
customers something to grab onto. Everyone leaves full after eating one of
our subs.”
Although all of Nino’s food is good, Giulietti claims the superstar items are the
PAGE 6
The playlist features many of the expected songs. These include “I Saw Her
Standing There”, “Yesterday”, “I Get By with a Little Help From My Friends”
and “Here Comes the Sun”, representing their early era. Moving through the
decade, they transition to the psychedelic movement with songs like “Sgt
Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, “Revolution”, “Penny Lane”, “Imagine”
and “I Am the Walrus”. The show concluded with “Hey Jude”, with the crowd
singing along and swaying back and forth.
Of the four, I thought “John Lennon” looked the most authentic and had the
strongest voice. He was also a really good musician on both the guitar and
piano.
Beatlemania Now shows through October 5 are 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and
Wednesday; 9 p.m. on Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sundays; a Wednesday afternoon matinee is offered at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $34, and may be purchased
at the Tropicana box office of www.ticketmaster.com or 1-800-745-3000.

BREAST
CANCER
AWARENESS
Ocean City will continue its support of Breast Cancer Awareness by painting
pink emblems in the end zones and along yard markers on the grounds of
Carey Stadium here, Oct. 7.
The Breast Cancer Awareness symbols will decorate the football field during
a game between Ocean City and Millville starting 7 p.m.
The awareness promotion is the idea of Mike Lenhardt, who lost his first
wife to breast cancer in 2003. Mike noticed that the color pink, a symbol of
breast cancer awareness, was featured throughout the area on pins, athletic
uniforms and promotional signage.
Mike is Ocean City’s Supervisor of Recreation Maintenance. One of his facilities is Carey Stadium. Three years ago, he decided it would be effective to
begin a tradition of “painting the football field pink” for one game each season
to draw attention to Breast Cancer Awareness and raise funds. He presented
the idea to High School officials who immediately agreed.
The unique promotion supports the Carolyn J. Ochs Memorial Assistance
Fund that helps breast cancer patients pay their everyday bills while going
through treatment. A similar organization helped Mike meet his mortgage
payments and take care of basic needs after his wife passed away.
Fund members will distribute literature during the game and monies from the
concession stand will be donated to support those with breast cancer. Ocean
City employees are making donations through their union and part of the
gate receipts will be donated. The football players will wear pink wristbands
and cheerleaders will sell lollipops for the cause.

FLOUNDER SEASON STARTS

FISHING REPORT
CATCH OF THE WEEK
Flounder season ended quietly this week, and the best thing is, very few mourned itsʼ
passing. Tog are so abundant in the bay that anglers had switched their targeted
species a couple of weeks ago. Green crabs, the preferred delight for the hefty fish
have finally become available, but the shortage forced those in the know to the bay
rocks and sod banks to scavenge for calicos and fiddlers. Outspoken anglers, vendors
and commercial marinas have expressed opinions about the proposed flounder season
for 2012.
Colleen McLaughlin,
Miguel Angel
Calgua from
Chichicastenango,
Guatemala and Ed
Arentz of Ventnor with
their tog. First time
in America fishing for
Miguel!
John Chickadell of E.P. Sales, Ventnor, said “People forget that fall is hurricane season,
and storms keep anglers from going offshore for flounder a great deal of the time. The
season should open in April when people have cabin fever and are ready to fish!”
Cory Solomon of Captain Andyʼs stopped by the dock during Margateʼs Funfest to pose
for a picture. Gamely wearing a flounder costume and talking around a white bucktail
in his mouth, Cory said “The bite was on big time until hurricane Irene, then it stopped. I
usually get my big ones in early May.” Fall of 2010 brought hurricane Earl and a huge
Northeaster four weeks later. Undoubtedly, these experiences will serve as a basis for
recommendations regarding next seasonʼs length and flounder size limits.
Tog however, are currently keeping everyone happy. They are a fun fish to catch,
require only a quick run from the dock, and even at a one fish per person daily limit, can
easily provide dinner with 20 inch four pounders common. Tyler Bennett of Northfield
and Barry Winokur of Margate both bagged four and a quarter pound 20 inch tog this
week. Tyler is just biding his time until big stripers start hitting. Ed Arentz of Ventnor
was so excited to introduce his visitor from Guatemala to tog fishing, he picked Miguel
Angel Calgua of Chichicastenango up from the airport and went straight to the boat.
Even jet lag didnʼt prevent Miguel from catching a keeper!

During these most trying financial times, when many A. C. casinos are
struggling to survive, you would think that owners and senior management
would be very sensitive to the numbers of customers their marketing departments are attracting, or not attracting, to their door. Not so! At their
own peril they continue to ignore dumb marketing practices that negatively affect their businesses. Instead of effective and efficient sales and
marketing departments, because of the way some dummies are currently
operating them, they should be designated as “The Sales Prevention Departments.” Here are few examples why:
Casino promos with little price/value for the customer. We once
received a casino mailer that we had zero dollars in a cash back offer. That
sort of makes you want to return in a hurry. Likewise, when an offer amounts
to a paltry $5 bucks when you have to spend more than that in gas to collect. Junk give-a-ways also do not do it for us. We would rather get cash
back or free slot play which is the reason why we go to a casino in the first
place. The Borgata excels at giving their customers good value.
Casino promos with severe restrictions. At times you need a contract
lawyer to decipher some of the small print on some casino offers. It probably gives some of the would be “marketing gurus” a sense of personal
power to be able to attempt to control customers as sheep. Days-of-theweek restrictions (we prefer going mid-week to avoid very busy weekends
with long lines and vehicular traffic.) detract business. Likewise, do severe
time-of-day restrictions which better suit the fantasy of a marketing nit-wit
than the needs of customers. Closing casino player’s clubs at 7 PM is another example of short-sightedness. Throwing customers out of your club
in the middle of a Phillies game is also quite dumb.
Ward's Pastry

See page 18.
Casino promos that are extremely difficult to collect. Harrah’s and
Bally’s are some of the worst. You have to clip a coupon, go to their (difficult to find) casino cage, stand in line, offer your ID, just to get another coupon to place in your far away slot machine along with your player’s card.
Sometimes this time consuming and annoying process to collect does not
work. Unlike Harrah’s and Bally’s, where lots of trees are killed with all the
paperwork involved to collect, The Borgata excels at making it easy to collect. At The Borgata useless paperwork is eliminated; so are long lines and
grumpy clerks.
The “Wiz” sez: “Play smart in clean, safe, and financially secure casinos that
give you the best odds, bennies, and promos.”
Editor's Note: The opinions of the Wizard are not the opinions of this publication.

TURN UP THE AC • DEANA M. KOZLOWSKI
9/30 - House of Blues - Third Eye Blind: Since 1997, San Francisco’s Third Eye
Blind have recorded three best-selling albums and assembled one career retrospective. Led
by Stephan Jenkins, 3EB won wide success during a tumultuous group of years when the
major-label recording industry was finally losing its grip on an enterprise that for decades it
had dominated with steely efficiency. Nothing could have made 3EB happier! 3EB, however,
have experienced no comparable loss. Instead, they have gained artistic clarification -- and,
surprisingly, a fan base larger than ever.
9/30 - Trump Taj Mahal - So You Think You Can Dance Tour: Don’t miss
your chance to see your favorite dancers perform the most memorable Season 8 routines
live! The Season 8 dancers going on tour are Caitlynn Lawson, Clarice Ordaz, Jess LeProtto,
Jordan Casanova, Marko Germar, Melanie Moore, Mitchell Kelly, Ricky Jaime, Sasha Mallory
and Tadd Gadduang.
10/1 - Borgata - Lynyrd Skynyrd: Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band, formed
in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964. The band became prominent in the Southern United States in
1973, and rose to worldwide recognition. Three members and one road crew member died in
an airplane crash in 1977; the band reformed in 1987 for a reunion tour with lead singer Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother Johnny as the frontman. Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to tour and
record. Of its original members, only Gary Rossington remains with the band as of 2011. The
band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006.
10/1 - Resorts - The 5th Dimension : The 5th Dimension are an American popular music vocal group, whose repertoire also includes pop, R&B, soul, and jazz.
Originally known as The Hi-Fi's, the 5th Dimension changed their name in late 1966, and
were best-known during the late 1960s and early 1970s for popularizing the hits "Up, Up
and Away", "Wedding Bell Blues", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "One Less Bell to Answer", "(Last
Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All", and "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In", as well as The Magic
Garden LP.
10/3 - Borgata - Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers: Bruce Randall Hornsby is an American singer, pianist, accordion player, and songwriter. Known for the spontaneity and creativity of his live performances, Hornsby draws frequently from classical, jazz,
bluegrass, folk, Motown, rock, blues, and jam band musical traditions with his songwriting and
the seamless improvisations contained within.
10/6-31 - Resorts - Los Vivancos: At the present, Los Vivancos is the best show
of flamenco selling in the world. Between 2009-2010, they traveled to more than 35 countries and their show 7 Brothers has had more then 1 million spectators since it’s beginning.
They had an 8 months world tour in 2010. Los Vivancos have been able, in his debut, breaking all international and national records in a simple
and humble cutting-edge style in the world of dance.
In dance, the show blends flamenco with all kinds of
styles and variations: classical ballet, contemporary
ballet, hip hop, Latin rhythms, martial arts and break
dancing, producing a mixture that is able to attract all
types of audiences, profiles and ages. It is the twentyfirst century flamenco in its purest essence, mixed with
other genres world-renowned, it means: universal flamenco style. Therefore, Los Vivancos have become the
most representative of the Spanish flamenco style of
the XXI century.
10/7 - House of Blues - Jack's Manequin: He's the ethereal voice, songwriting powerhouse and full-contact keyboardist behind Something Corporate, the piano-rock
quintet praised by one critic for its "combination of intelligent lyrics, infectious melodies, and
killer piano." Now Andrew McMahon is taking something of a spring break from the band
with which he's practically lived for the last four years in order to offer up an angst-flavored
side project. In the guise of Jack's Mannequin comes Everything In Transit, a highly personal
theme album by McMahon and collaborators, from Maverick Records.
10/7 - Borgata - Adele: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known professionally as Adele, is a
British singer-songwriter. She was the first recipient of the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice and was
named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music
critics, Sound of 2008. Since her debut album 19, Adele has received much recognition both
commercially and critically. The album debuted at number one, and has been certified 4x
platinum in the UK. Her career in the US was boosted by a viewer record–breaking Saturday
Night Live episode in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele won the awards for Best
New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
10/7 - Borgata - Whoopie Goldberg: Whoopi Goldberg is an American comedian,
actress, singer-songwriter, political activist, and talk show host. Goldberg made her film debut
in The Color Purple (1985) playing Celie, a mistreated black woman in the Deep South. She
received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress and won her first Golden
Globe Award for her role in the film. In 1990, she starred as Oda Mae Brown, a psychic helping a slain man (Patrick Swayze) find his killer in the blockbuster film Ghost. Goldberg has
been nominated for 13 Emmy Awards for her work in television. She was co-producer of the
popular game show Hollywood Squares from 1998 to 2004. She has been the moderator of
the daytime talk show The View since 2007. Goldberg has a Grammy, two Emmys, two Golden
Globes, a Tony( production not acting), and an Oscar.
10/8 - Borgata - FX’s The League Live: To be a fan of THE LEAGUE on FX, you
don’t need to know much about fantasy football, or sports at all. You just need to have friends
that you hate. FX’s ensemble comedy follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league
who care deeply about one another - so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each
other’s lives miserable.
10/8 - Hilton - Bobby Rydell: Bobby Rydell’s career spans six decades and encompasses every area of the entertainment world. His debut in the late 50’s as a rock & roll teen
idol lead to starring roles in such hit films as “Bye Bye Birdie” and plays such as “West Side
Story.” Working with the “greats” of comedy Bobby was able to develop an uncanny gift for
comedy.Bobby has earned a reputation as a classic performer. Not only is he a superb singer
whose voice has gotten better over the years – he has proved to be an outstanding drummer,
an agile dancer and an extremely fine actor, with an unsurpassed knack for comedy.
10/14 - House of Blues - Arctic Monkeys: By distilling the sounds of Franz
Ferdinand, the Clash, the Strokes, and the Libertines into a hybrid of swaggering indie rock
and danceable neo-punk, Arctic Monkeys became one of the U.K.'s biggest bands of the new
millennium. Their meteoric rise began in 2005, when the teenagers fielded offers from major
labels and drew a sold-out crowd to the London Astoria, using little more than a self-released
PAGE 16
EP as bait. Several months later, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not became
the fastest-selling debut album in British history, entrenching Arctic Monkeys in the same
circle as multi-platinum acts like Oasis and Blur.
10/15 - Caesars - Natalie Cole: Nine-time GRAMMY award winner singer, songwriter and performer Natalie Cole has proven to be one of the most beloved performers of
all time. Cole will release her second book “Love Brought Me Back” in November chronicling
her path to a kidney transplant in 2009.
10/15 - Trump Taj Mahal - Despina Vandi, Elli Kokkinou & Kostas Karafotis:
The highly anticipated North American tour of three of Greece’s most popular singers Despina Vandi, Elli Kokkinou and Kostas Karafotis will take place this fall. Many are already
calling it the event of the season.
10/21 - House of Blues - Jane’s Addiction: Jane’s Addiction aggressively
melds avant-garde, funk, metal, and punk with raw sexual energy. Formed in the late eighties, the band stood out as an incomparable force. In an LA club scene convulsing with
bands, Jane’s became one of the most talked-about and soon entered the mainstream with
voracious force, cutting through the pop froth and hair metal popular at the time and influencing countless artists to come.
10/22 - Hilton - Sinbad: David Adkins better known by his professional name of
Sinbad, is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He became well known in the 1990s
from being featured on his own HBO specials, appearing on several television series, and
starring in the films Necessary Roughness, Houseguest, First Kid, Jingle All the Way and
Good Burger.
10/28 - House of Blues - Ace Frehkey: Ace Frehley is known around the world
as a founding member and lead guitarist for the legendary rock band KISS. He masterminded and embodied the persona of the “Space Ace” when the band shocked the planet with
costumes, makeup, and exploding theatrics! Frehley was a crucial member of KISS from its
inception in 1973 until his departure in 1982
10/28 - Caesars - Willie Nelson: As a songwriter and a performer, Willie Nelson
played a vital role in post-rock & roll country music. Although he didn't become a star until
the mid-'70s, Nelson spent the '60s writing songs that became hits for stars like Ray Price
("Night Life"), Patsy Cline ("Crazy"), Faron Young ("Hello Walls"), and Billy Walker ("Funny
How Time Slips Away") as well as releasing a series of records on Liberty and RCA that
earned him a small, but devoted, cult following.
10/29 - Tropicana - Here Come the Mummies: Catch them in concert, if you
dare! Think this talented troupe of ghouls isn’t wrapped too tight? You may be right… but
their funky sound will rock your soul!
10/29 - Tropicana - Jon Anderson & Rick Wakeman: Jon Anderson and
Rick Wakeman, the voice and sound of the classic line up of legendary rock band YES, join
forces for a special tour this fall. This full evening show will feature classics from the YES
catalogue, songs from their new album “The Living Tree” and songs from their solo repertoire alongside hilarious anecdotes from these two legendary ambassadors of prog-rock.
11/11 - Tropicana - Kool & The Gang: Kool & The Gang has sold over 70 million
albums worldwide and influenced the music of three generations. Thanks to songs like Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, they’ve earned two
Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop
hits, and 31 gold and platinum albums. Kool & The Gang has performed continuously for the
past 35 years, longer than any R&B group in history. Their bulletproof funk and tough, jazzy
arrangements have also made them the most sampled band of all time.
11/12 - Boardwalk Hall - Further: Fans
can expect Lesh & Weir to push the musical envelope with jaw-dropping improvisations and loving
renditions of Grateful Dead classics, with an all-star
band that includes keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (RatDog), drummer Joe Russo (Benevento - Russo Duo,
Trey Anastasio), guitarist John Kadlecik (Dark Star
Orchestra), and vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff
Pehrson. New and old fans of the Grateful Dead alike will be entranced as Phil & Bob take
the musical journey “furthur”, exploring some of the Grateful Dead’s most beloved songs in
a tour that promises to keep the feet stomping and the bodies shaking
11/19 - Boardwalk Hall - Jay-Z & Kanye West: Both JAY-Z and Kanye West
have each appeared as guests on the other's stage, and now they come together for neverbefore-seen performances not only from their collaboration, WATCH THE THRONE but also
songs from their classic catalogue.
11/25 - Harrah's - Celtic Thunder: Celtic Thunder is a singing group composed
of five male soloists who perform both solo and ensemble numbers. Celtic Thunder debuted
in August 2007 at The Helix in Dublin, Ireland. They are accompanied by the Celtic Concert
Orchestra under the direction of Phil Coulter, the musical director of the group.
12/3 - Boardwalk Hall - Caesars Tribute II: A Salute to the Ladies of the Ice:
Caesars Entertainment and StarGames are proud to announce the return of figure skating to
Atlantic City with “The Caesars Tribute II: A Salute to the Ladies of the Ice”. Following in the
footsteps of last year’s inaugural Caesars Tribute: A Salute to the Golden Age of American
Figure Skating, this year’s show has once again created a special figure skating evening assembling a world-renowned cast of Ladies champions. The star-studded line-up includes
the current world champion Miki Ando and past medalists and champions Sarah Hughes,
Irina Slutskaya, Nancy Kerrigan, Tara Lipinski, Yuka Sato, Joannie Rochette, Sasha
Cohen, Nicole Bobeck, Shizuka Arakawa,
Liz Manley and more. A special tribute
presentation will be made to skating icon
Peggy Fleming. The event will air nationally
on NBC from 4:00 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. ET on

Use These
Effective Time
Management
Strategies
by: Merrie C. Weeks
If you desire to have good time management then you need to have a strategy or an action plan. Following these
strategies will help you get the most out
of your days.
First thing to do is Prioritize
your work.
Start each day by ranking the things
that you must do. Starting with the
most important and unpleasant tasks
first, then go from there. Those things
that can wait for later that day should
be listed towards the bottom of your
list. Don't make your list too long because there are only so many hours in a
day and you don't want to feel like you
will never get it all accomplished.
Second thing is to Assign Work
Time Frame for each task.
At first this might not seem realistic but
it is mostly so that you will have some
sort of idea how long it will take to finish each task. You will find that once
you start a task, it won't really take very
long unless it is a big project. If so, then
break it down so that you can see some
progress.

Third Be Flexible.
Unexpected things come up from time
to time so if you have to stop to take
care of some other matter, do not
worry and stress out if you don't accomplished a certain task in the time
frame you set. Just like the saying
goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day" so
make sure you allow for those times
when things come up. Don't let these
things such as phone calls, important
emails, kids and life in general frustrate you, the important thing to remember is that you are making
progress on your list.

pass it on. In this way the task will get
done and you won't waste time putting
it off because you can't accomplish it
yourself.
Everyone has limitations and if you realize what those are then you will know
Fourth thing is to Say No what you can work on later to improve
those skills or know in advance what

Fifth is to Delegate.
Remember that you probably can't
do everything yourself so if there is a
task that you might not be very good
at or like doing and there is someone
that can do the task then by all means
