A Message
From the President
Strengthening
the Spirit of
Community
Leslie Snorf honoring guests at Donor Salute
This issue of Window celebrates a
successful year for the Carmel Public
Library Foundation made possible by
the generous contributions of our
donors. Library Director Janet
Bombard reports monthly statistics
of library usage, and the numbers are
impressive.
Circulation total of all collections for
March was 13,106 transactions.
Patron visits to Harrison Memorial
Library, the Park Branch, Local History
Archives, and Youth Services, was
10,490. The total number of reference
questions answered in March was
2,773. The total number of library
card holders has increased by 868
new registrations year-to-date to a
whopping 11,026. Additionally, the
total children’s attendance at
storytime and Summer Reading is
1,162, year-to-date.
Public programs this year have been
interesting and well attended.
Community Nights with the Library
featured speakers discussing current
events, local resources, and author
presentations. Local History Lectures
described fascinating historical
information from Big Sur to Carmel
to Pacific Grove and Fort Ord. The
Parent Lecture Series highlighted
child development topics from
educators and authors. Finally, the
Mystery Edition, this year’s annual
benefit starred John Lescroart,
Jeffery Deaver, and Elizabeth George,
in a program that was attended by
more than 450 enthusiastic fans.
We often refer to the Foundation’s
goal of keeping the library open,
thriving, and relevant; to advance
knowledge, to inspire lifelong
learning, and to strengthen the spirit
of community in Carmel. Your
significant gifts and participation are
the incredible
support for our
mission.
Thank you. n
—LESLIE SNORF

Reception for Sterling Circle
Planned Giving Donors
In honor of some of the Carmel Public Library Foundation’s most committed
and generous supporters, Sterling Circle donors were invited to an elegant
afternoon reception held at the Weston Gallery on Sunday, June 8. The
Sterling Circle, named after famed Carmel poet George Sterling, honors a
distinguished group of donors who benefit the Carmel Library with gifts made
in their wills or estate plans. The plaque honoring Sterling Circle donors hangs
in the lobby at Park Branch. n
