Mission Statement
Under the patronage of Mary, Mother of the
Redeemer, we are a growing faith community
centered in the Eucharist and dedicated to
worshiping God, our Father.
In response to our baptismal call, we commit
ourselves to promote the gospel of His Son, Jesus
Christ, through Christian hospitality, spiritual
nurturing, evangelical outreach, and shared social
experience.
We call upon each parishioner to share his or her
talents in addressing the needs of our parish and
society at large. We implore the Holy Spirit to
consecrate each of us in this mission.
Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, help us share in the work of redemption.

What We’re Not Hearing
You may recall that MMR Parish sponsored the Archbishop of
Damascus for his visit to the United States and participation in
the World Meeting of Families last September. Most grateful
for our doing so, Archbishop Nassar has continued to stay in
touch with us via e-mails and postcards. He recently sent the
following message.
Shrapnel killed Deacon Camille on the road to the church.
Following his death, I proposed that the priests leave if they
wanted to. The diocese does not have the right to keep
them here under these conditions. They have all answered:
“You remain, we remain!”
Providence has since protected us. Our deacon martyr had
the role of distributing bread to the poor. The priests took
over, and each of them has become a social worker; good
Samaritans who watch over the charitable activities in
their parish. This is necessitated by the intense fighting in
Syria and the waves of refugees that unfortunately arrive
each day.
Outdoor
Stations of the Cross
On Tuesday, March 22nd, at 7:00
pm all are welcome to pray the
Stations outdoors. We will be
gathering at the newly-placed
marble statue of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, which will be
incorporated into our plans for
constructing this spring a formal
entrance to our permanent Stations
of the Cross. The statue is located
next to the old pump house. (This
devotion will be coordinated by
the Boy Scouts of local Troop
#547 and members of our St.
Francis Ecology Council.)
2015 was quite hard for the diocese. Two shells caused significant damage in the historic cathedral. The roof of the
library caught fire and collapsed, and the room of Father
Jean caught fire. The heavy restoration work was carried
out by priests during my absence (health problems). In a
gesture of rebellion against death and destruction, these
courageous priests launched the construction of three
chapels in the modest suburban districts, mobilizing the
faithful around these three projects which are a sign of
hope and faith in the future of the Church in Syria. The first
chapel, dedicated to the Martyrs of Damascus, was inaugurated on January 8, 2016.This is a step on the path of reconstruction.
The Church and our Good Shepherd are proud of these
priests, vigilant servants who cling to their mission under
the bombs. They are the strength and future pledge of a
persecuted Christianity that refuses to die.
February 14, 2016.

Join us for MMR’s Spring Bible Study!
If you ever wanted to give Bible study a try this is a great opportunity!
Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible
An engaging journey through the Bible, this eight-part study (30-minute sessions)
provides the easiest way to understand the Bible. Unlocking the Mystery of the
Bible makes the complex simple. It helps you uncover the story woven throughout
Scripture so that you can get the “big picture” of the Bible and understand what
it is all about. The Bible is a story about the Father’s unfailing love for you - a
love that you are now called to share with others.
You will: Make sense of the Bible and see how it relates to your everyday life; Discover the remarkable
connections between the Old and New Testaments; See how the sacraments, the Church and our entire
Catholic Faith is rooted in Scripture … and much more!
Bible Study Sessions here at MMR will be held the weeks of April 3rd through May 22nd at the following
times:
Tuesday morning at 9:30 am

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Palm Sunday
of the Passion of the Lord
Misericordiae Vultus: The Face of
Mercy is Pope Francis' official
decree announcing this Jubilee
Year of Mercy. But Francis had
already declared that Jesus "has
shown the face of God's mercy"
back in 2013 on his first Palm
Sunday as pope. Francis described Luke's account of Jesus'
entrance into Jerusalem:
"Crowds, celebrating, praise,
blessing, peace: joy fills the air.
Jesus has awakened great
hopes, especially in the hearts of
the simple, the humble, the poor,
the forgotten, those who do not
matter in the eyes of the world.
He understands human sufferings . . . has bent down to heal
body and soul." Entering Jerusalem, Jesus looks at all of us with
love, Francis continued, at our
sicknesses and sins. "A beautiful
scene, full of light--the light of
the love of Jesus" (Pope Francis,
Palm Sunday homily, March 24,
2013). May this Jubilee Year's
Holy Week and Triduum make
us Jesus' own light-bearers and
love-givers to all who long to
see the Face of Mercy.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE
AND OTHER ACTS OF PENANCE
The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and
older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash
Wednesday, on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.
Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to
and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by
limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday
and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days
are to be light.
All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate
at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate
frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual
reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to
participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended.

CYO Board Elections
The opportunity to get more involved in the MMR CYO Program
has finally arrived. The MMR CYO
Board is looking for a new President, Vice-President, Secretary,
and Treasurer. Since the current
Board has been in these roles for a
few years, it is now time to pass
the baton to parents of younger
CYO participants to help shape
the future of the Program.
Don’t let “President” or the other
titles scare you: the time commitment is minimal with great reward.
The MMR CYO Board only meets
once a month during the 2-year
term and responsibilities are very
manageable:
President’s responsibilities:
♦ Chairing monthly Board meetings
♦ Managing annual budget
♦ Overseeing all activities
Vice President responsibilities:
♦ Attending monthly Board meetings
♦ Ensuring all CYO coaches and volunteers have all clearance forms on file
with the parish as required by the
Archdiocese
Secretary’s responsibilities:
♦ Attending and recording the minutes
of monthly Board meetings
♦ Helping with CYO sports season
registrations and issues
Treasurer’s responsibilities:
♦ Attending monthly Board meetings
♦ Managing the financials of the CYO
Program
Any MMR parishioner 21 years of
age of older may nominate themselves. Elections will take place if
more than one parishioner is interested in a position. Nominations
must be received no later than
Sunday, May 1st to Joe McLane,
CYO Board Vice President at

Calling All Golfers! - Annual MMR Golf Outing
This year’s event will be held on April 25th at beautiful
Talamore Country Club and will once again feature a sitdown lunch, 18 holes of “scramble” golf, on-course beverage stations, a post-round cocktail hour, a silent auction

Mass and other events at the Parish.
So, sign up now to come out and spend a great day in the sun with friends
and fellow MMR Parishioners. And if you’re not a golfer, don’t worry –
come out for the cocktail hour and dinner that will begin at 5:00 pm, during
which we will also be having an auction where people in the past have
been able to win such great items as Phillies tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates, sports memorabilia, memberships to Talamore Country Club and
