AUSCO Wet Brakes
Fully Enclosed and Sealed Wet Brakes –Contamination will not affect brake life or performance of function. The brake is enclosed inside the differential and this
means that the brake is completely sealed from the mining environment. Unlike an exposed caliper or drum brake, which corrodes and is abrasively damaged
by the mine environment, the wet brake works perfectly every time.
High Thermal Capacity -The brake's thermal capacity is high enough that it is very resistant to overheating problems that competing designs can experience. The
brake is designed to use the mass of the differential as a heat sink. As such, the brake housing (the differential) can be completely covered in contaminates,
and the brake will still continue to function well. In other wet brake designs, the housing can become so insulated by mud and contaminates that it cannot
cool itself and it overheats internally. In this design, there is so much mass in the differential housing that this is virtually impossible.
High Energy Wet Metallic Linings – The brake linings are virtually maintenance free under intended operating conditions. The brake utilizes sintered bronze
lining materials that can withstand high temperatures and rugged duty cycles. In a dry brake, every engagement sloughs off brake lining material, since the
work is done to the lining. A wet brake is different. The work done is done on the oil, not the brake lining. The result is a brake, which only heats up oil. Wear
on the linings is almost non-existent. The result is maintenance free braking, unless somebody decides to thermally overload the brake, which is hard to do
because of the high thermal capacity and the metallic linings.
Easy Service – The brakes are mounted inside the differential housing, which is easily accessed. Simply unbolt the end caps, and remove the axle half shaft and
tubes. The brake is right there. The brake includes push-off screws to insure easy removal from the housing.
Easily Protected Hydraulic Brake Lines – The inlet and bleeder ports are on the axle housing and are easily protected by counter bores on the housing. With the
lines mounted high and far away from the tyres.
