The Abby Manor Historical society is hosting the annual masquerade charity event The Abby Manor Masquerade Ball. The Abby Manor, built in 1842, requires
constant maintenance and restoration due to the age of the estate and because it is
the town of Anonville's treasured historical landmark.
The Abby Manor Masquerade Ball is famous for its intriguing party guests and
excitement during the evening as everybody, including the rich and famous, will
show off their most fabulous masquerade masks and party attire! You have
purchased a ticket to the ball, and this is where your story begins...
LIST OF SUSPECTS - FOR THE HOST’S EYES ONLY
8 players are required (4F, 3M, 1either) & 10 optional (5F, 5M)
All costume suggestions are ‘masquerade formal’ and a masquerade mask. As an alternative, ask your
guests to dress in normal cocktail party attire with a masquerade mask.

DESCRIPTION
Yuna Verz is a seasoned Astronaut who sincerely
believes that she has the highest IQ in the entire
galaxy…and she might be right! However, you should
watch out for this brainy diva, as she’s known to be
quite touchy on occasion.
Sherlock Tracy is an infamous big city homicide
detective. In recent years, he’s had a reality television
crew following him around at the station for his reality
show, Big City Cops. The producers love it when
Sherlock talks in clichés and performs rhymes, which
he does constantly! It makes for good television!
Dolly Dee is the ultra-feminine doll designer and
dedicated friend to everyone. If you ever need a
shoulder to cry on, her shoulder’s the one to choose!
Dolly Dee’s known to give excellent advice and is the
most comforting person around!
Dr. Mag Niffie is the rude, ill-mannered optometrist.
Her address book is a barren wasteland as there are
not many folks she can honestly call a friend—besides
Bameril Lacrosse. Mag’s one hard person to get along
with!
Bameril Lacrosse is the slightly quirky and high-strung
Portuguese celebrity chef, restaurateur and television
personality. He’s best known for his five-star
restaurants in hot spots around the globe, as well as
for his hit television cooking show, The Essence of
Bameril.
Jackey Pressen is the fanatical owner of the busiest
dry cleaners in town - Madison Dry Cleaners - lovingly
named after Jackey’s favorite first grade teacher, Ms.
Martha Madison. Jackey is fun-loving, sentimental and
loves to dance. However, it’s too bad Jackey lacks a
shred of talent when it comes to cuttin’ a rug!

Originally hailing from France, Cheque´ Penne is a
major conservative and ultra-quiet personal banker at
the largest bank in town. People tend to spread
strange rumors about Cheque´ since nobody truly
knows him.
Pepper Keegrip is the neurotic television producer who
sings her words in lieu of speaking them normally.
She is the producer of both Bameril Lacrosse and
Sherlock Tracy’s television shows and is a known
stressed-out workaholic.
Blondie Fawn cringes at the phrase has been as it is
rumored that her time is nearly up on the Hollywood
scene. In her most recent movie, she played the role
of a grandmother for the first time and this didn’t sit
well with her ego, as she’s only forty-years-young!
Blondie is known to be a tad delusional on occasion,
so be careful during conversations with her.
Bryan Seafoam is the outgoing radio disc jockey and
host of the reality television show Big City Cops. You
immediately know when Bryan Seafoam is in the room
as his charisma fills the air—and he has a bad habit of
projecting his voice extra loudly!
Mike Robes is the infamous and overly-inquisitive
bioterrorism researcher. He’s invented mind-blowing
bioterrorism counter devices that you would never
even imagine could exist! Some say he’s an utter
genius! Mike’s also known to be a tad paranoid, so
when you’re around him, try to make him feel at ease!
Bill Shananagan is the obnoxious National Football
League coach of the Anonville Cheetahs. Known to
be boorish and overly-bossy, this football coach is one
to steer clear of at any gathering—except a football
game, that is.
As long as you don’t mind being judged repeatedly,
Roxy Rich is a good friend to have. Very opinionated
and outspoken, this heiress is one of the biggest
socialites in town!

Professional Chess Player
Luke Fude is the one of the most hilarious gentleman
you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. He’s a
knee-slapping comedian at night and a critical
governmental food inspector by day. Luke’s best pals
beg him to break into professional standup comedy, as
he’s always the one to hurl everyone into tears from
laughter!
Cha-Cha is the beautiful and intriguing ballroom dance
instructor. She’s a little hyperactive so it’s difficult for
Cha-Cha to stand still—especially if there’s music
playing! This fiery instructor dances incessantly!
Where does she get all of that energy?
Pawnie McQueen is the aggressive professional chess
player. This is one Queen of the Knights that will tell
you how it is with her blunt honesty!
Optional Female
Jamie Bond
Federal Agent
Optional Female
*Can be expanded to up to 15
(M/F) characters.
Tele N. Ewe
Investigative Field Reporter
Optional Male
*Can be expanded to up to 15
(M/F) characters.
Jamie Bond is the ultra-mysterious government secret
agent. Nobody truly knows who she works for and she
often travels with her partners.
Tele N. Ewe is the does what it takes investigative field
reporter. Tele is no stranger to the eye of a tornado, a
foreign battle ground, and even a riot or two! Tele will
do anything to get the scoop! Sometimes, he’s
accompanied by fellow reporters…especially if there is
a potential for a story to break out.
*IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:
Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative,
shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly
suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so
you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to
a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s
suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at
the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any
combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same basic participation
level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the
mystery to be sleuthed appropriately.
What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take
a deep breath…it’s not the end of the world.
1. If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll need
to switch characters. Hopefully, this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her
costume ready. However, you can allow them to wear the costume that they purchased or created, as their
nametag will let the other guests know whom they are playing during the party.

Get ready for an elegant night of murder and mayhem with your purchase of the THE ABBY MANOR
MASQUERADE BALL game from MyMysteryParty.com! This party is an entertaining mystery where the players
act the roles of intriguing personalities while sleuthing the mysterious story line. This mystery is for ages 14+—
age minimum is for difficulty and the ability to relate to the characters. The mystery is not too difficult, but it is
challenging enough to keep your guests intrigued while sleuthing the fun story line.
PREPARING THE KIT: This document needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues, slip
them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal
to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your
game on the http://www.mymysteryparty.com site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s
sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll
with the character/round. In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method
for each character, each round. Our ‘How to Host’ video demonstrates how to prepare these in both of these
methods on the My Mystery Party channel on YouTube, or you can access this video on our website in the
‘How to Host and FAQ’ section & on the front home page of our site.

MYSTERY PROPS: We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium including
a thunderstorm ambiance 10 minute sound wav to play in the background, authentic crime scene barrier tape,
crime scene balloons, mystery investigation pens, white face makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts, etc. There
is a ‘Do You Think You Can You Dance’ mp3 track for the Do You Think You Can Dance challenge as well.
The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows:
OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS & STARTERS: these optional pre-game starters and task sheets are to be delivered
to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional
and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These starters
and tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way.

INVITING YOUR GUESTS: Before the party, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party http://yourmysteryparty.com/abby website or use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have
the character descriptions included and a link (web address) to the Your Mystery Party website. This way,
before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party as well as the history of
the Abby Manor and more! There are also hidden/subtle hints about characters throughout the page so those
guests who choose to be ‘super sleuths’ can spend some time studying the Your Mystery Party site prior to the
party.
THE FREE INVITATIONS: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link that says ‘free, downloadable
invitation’ to download the pdf file.
If you are playing with an expansion pack to this game, you’ll need to go to the expansion pack page to get
your invitation that includes the expansion pack players – the link is in the expansion pack file if you cannot
locate it on the site. Simply go back to where you purchased the expansion pack and scroll to the bottom of
the page to an icon that looks like this:
Click on this icon to download the expansion pack that
includes your additional players.
Fill in your information in the text fields and either print or save to your hard drive. Do not attempt to edit the
text fields and save the invitation from the html version of the invitation. Save it to your hard drive first, and
open it with the newest version of Adobe Reader to avoid any problems. You can email these invites as an
attachment to your guests to save paper costs. You will need to enter your information in the text field and
save one on your hard drive for each player, changing the character to be played on each invitation.
Alternatively, either email this link or use any eVite site and simply include the link to the Your Mystery Party
guest invite site at www.YourMysteryParty.com/Abby.

DÉCOR: The party area is set in a ballroom in the historical Abby Manor. You can’t have enough candles
(LED preferred so you don’t have to worry about safety), candelabras and cobwebs! Create a masquerade
ball ambiance with a Phantom of the Opera soundtrack CD playing softly and the Phantom of the Opera movie
playing in the background without the audio if there is a television in the party room. Make a DVD of pictures
of you and your guest to play like a slideshow during your party (optional). Great colors for a masquerade ball
are majestic purple and gold, or maybe a royal red theme. All senses come into play with your guests during
the party – sight, touch, smell, taste, and sound – so you want to aim to captivate all senses so your guests
have a memorable time. Remember that food should be part of the décor, so make it appetizing! We have a
dedicated Pinterest Page at My Mystery Party for this game for helpful DIY party hosting ideas:

The murder victim will be instructed in their round two clue card to put the white face makeup on their face, put
on the victim sign by adhering it to their chest with Scotch tape, to adhere the murder weapon to their forehead
with scotch tape, and if the optional victim t-shirt is available—to put that on (with the victim sign on top) and if

HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY
GUEST INSTRUCTIONS
You’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most
awesome masquerade costume and have been told to play your role. Now what?
The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the party, you will
receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The
clues for the characters at the party provide everything that you need to solve the mystery.
However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right
questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to get the whole picture of what has
happened.
FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE
PURCHASED GAME
From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are
playing an ‘ill-mannered optometrist,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly,
your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are
designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any
manner that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like.
However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other guests to
approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

played in your game, write ‘DISREGARD THIS TASK’ in the contact information space. 
CHARACTER A
OPTIONAL - for some pre-party fun, you can contact (email, phone, etc.) the following guests in the week
leading up to the party:
Contact the guest playing Jackey T. Pressen and ask him/her what happened to your fur coat. There are
holes everywhere and all you asked for was summer storage. Did Jackey store it on the floor in a warehouse
somewhere—with maybe some rat food smeared all over it?!

•
Talk to everyone about anything they can tell you about a possible story. You will do absolutely anything to
get the scoop…even hand over some ‘change’ if they know what you mean.
Talk about how there might be a story with the ongoing fight over the estate of Yuna Verz and Sherlock
Tracy’s late grandmother. Those two have nearly spent as much money in lawyers’ fees and investigators
as is in the inheritance for each of them.
Confide in a few people about how Bameril Lacrosse is actually a dangerous chef. You have firsthand
knowledge of his food practices in the kitchen and if he didn’t have personal assistants…he would definitely
make his customers sick. His assistants make sure that he doesn’t leave things out too long or cross
contaminate things in the kitchen. You can only imagine what he was like when he first started out as a
chef—before he had assistants watching out for his interests! The only reason you haven’t reported this is
nothing detrimental has happened—his assistants take care of everything for him!

ROUND TWO CLUES – cut out, slip into envelopes and label with the character and round.
CHARACTER N – ROUND TWO
PRE-MURDER CLUES:
• Admit that maybe a couple of your husbands died of an accidental poisoning that might have been your
fault. You had a bottle of a special fast-acting poison and it might have spilled into the lemonade a time or
two….but it was purely an accident.
• Tell a few people that your antique ring fell into the ice drawer earlier and you had to fish it out. Oops!
• Ask Bameril Lacrosse if he is still handing out foodborne illnesses. You’ve not had a foodborne illness
since you got a new personal chef! You hope his fame and fortune have afforded him some rigorous food
safety courses. You cannot believe he attended such prestigious culinary schools as he put on his resume
and is so careless. You hope the guests of his five-star restaurants aren’t getting ill!
POST-MURDER CLUES:
 You did leave the ballroom tonight and it was about 29 minutes ago, but you returned only after a couple of
minutes. You needed a little fresh air.
 You know that Pepper Keegrip was not in the ballroom during the time that the murder occurred.
 Cheque

7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made and enjoy appetizers. Have the guest instructions, and a
character list available for the guests to view.
7:10 PM: The host goes over the instructions for the mystery game. It is optional to have each character
stand up and introduce themselves to the group. You can play the game trailer video for an introduction.
There are also fun news articles on the Your Mystery Party page that you can print and display.
7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out. The guests mingle and discuss the clues on their clue
cards. Motives for murder will start to unfold during this round.
7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played.
8:05 PM: Dinner is served. (Dinner is optional – appetizers / snacks can be served throughout the party instead of
serving a formal dinner.) The Fantastic Movie Challenge is played at this time &/or during dinner.
8:45 PM: Round Two envelopes are handed out, and the guests mingle about with their pre-murder clues.
9:05 PM The host reads the results of the movie challenge and the victim, using this as a secret cue,
becomes the victim. The investigation of the crime begins. *If the movie challenge is skipped, the host will need to
cue the victim when it is time to become the victim (see host instructions). The mystery investigation sheets & a
writing utensil are handed out, and the guests reveal their post-murder clues and investigate the crime.
9:15 PM: The fingerprint report is revealed. The guests review it and finalize their best guess of whodunit.
9:20 PM The investigation sheets (guesses of whodunit) are turned in to the host, and the host allows the
guests to one at a time accuse who they believe did it.
9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (both optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to the
guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each suspect and the murderer
confesses at the end.
9:50 PM: Allow time for the guests to mingle at the end to discuss the mystery. If you only had the required
players read their solutions, use this time for your guests to mingle & share their solutions to the mystery. You
can use this time to get ready for the awards ceremony (optional).
10:00 PM: Now it would be time for an optional awards ceremony &/or even a bonus game!
*Please note: if you want to shorten the mystery party, omit the bonus games, don’t stop for dinner
and simply serve appetizers/snacks throughout, omit the accusation round &/or the awards ceremony.
If you wish to extend the length of the party, simply add more bonus games!
