It may seem a bit weird to be
talking about the new year right now,
but despite what the calendar may tell
you, the Chamber’s new year starts
each July. We just finished one of the
Chamber’s most successful years on
record, finishing the year with 791
members and many successful
programs and events. As we look
ahead to 2012-13, we are already in
motion to bring you some fantastic new programs.
One of the items we are most proud of is the
completely new redesign of our Chamber newsletter,
SuccessLink Journal. I hope that you spend some time
with this month’s issue and learn about your fellow
members.
That’s exactly what we’ve changed about this
year’s newsletter…it’s all about YOU, our members!
You’ll still see some small Chamber information in
there, but we’ve worked hard to put the emphasis on our
members. The opportunity to tell your story is a great
honor for us and we want to help you get the word out
about your business.
We’ll be interviewing different members each
month, trying to keep you informed on the latest
happenings in the business community. We need your
help to be successful. If you have something new going
on at your business, or you have a special product or
promotion you want to tell us about, I hope you will
give Terry Hogan a call to discuss how we can help you
get information into the newsletter. There will still be
some advertising opportunities for you on the back page
as well as a few promotional mailer inserts available.
This is just the first of many new things you will
see rolled out in the Chamber’s new year. I hope you
enjoy our redesigned issue and please feel free to
contact us with any comments or questions you may
have! Thanks for all of your continued support of the
Greece Chamber of Commerce!

hange is difficult
for all of us yet a
necessary element for growth. SWITCH explores
the concept of uniting the rational mind and the
emotional mind to accomplish positive successful
dramatic results from both personal and business
aspects. The book looks at a basic three-part
framework necessary for change: 1) Direct the
Rider (the rational) 2) Motivate the Elephant (the
emotional) and 3) Shape the Path (the situation
including the surrounding environment). From
finding the bright to building habits and far beyond this book is a must read for those that want
effective change in their life and in their business.

Economic Development, Professional Development &
Government from a leadership standpoint. The unit is based
on the text The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes & Posner.
Participants of the Leadership Greece Program learn more
about our community, strengthen their leadership abilities,
develop leadership skills for use in work, home, and
volunteering life, become part of the pool of qualified local
leaders that serve in the community and non-profit leadership
posts, and become more acquainted with community needs
and issues.

Chamber Board Spotlight
Todd Schirmer
Branch Manager
Northwest Savings Bank
What do you see as the best benefit of the Chamber?:
It seems like the obvious response but as a Greece Chamber member, you have numerous
networking opportunities to promote your business and market yourself. With the wide range of
opportunities the chamber provides (morning networking events, monthly luncheons, afternoon
mixers, a variety of committees you can participate in, and sponsorships of chamber events), you can
be involved a little, or a lot, to get the most of your chamber membership while managing your time
constraints.
Why do you enjoy being on the board?:
Being on the board is exciting! You have a say and impact on the direction of the chamber. You are able to suggest and
make changes to keep the Chamber current with the times, while addressing and providing solutions to the ever-changing
needs of the business community.
What do you like to do in your freetime?:
I am an outdoors and water enthusiast so you will normally find me gardening, biking, swimming, kayaking and motor
boating in my spare time. I also love to cook using natural and fresh foods as ingredients.
