1. Concept
Sweden is an infinity of breathtaking landscapes. Sweden is dark-blue lakes and rocky
islands, quaint towns and brightly colored country houses. Sweden is tradition and
modernity. But above all, Sweden is Inga Lindström. Since 2004, the Inga Lindström TV
movie cycle has been transporting millions of viewers to this Scandinavian country,
the capital of Nordic romance. The air may be bracing and the lakes crystal-clear, but
the passions roiling beneath Sweden’s calm surface prove that the Nordic soul is as
fiery and impulsive as that of any Latin country. The hit ZDF TV movie cycle regularly
lures six to eight million viewers to its highly competitive Sunday evening slot and
now ranks with the Rosamunde Pilcher Collection among the very top audience magnets
for female audiences. Some actually call the films “Rosamunde Pilcher in Sweden” –
a description that‘s right on the mark. After all, the chief ingredients of these films are
love and romance, along with their darker companions jealousy and betrayal, and a
generous portion of heartbreak and broken secrets.
All this emotional turmoil unfolds against the authentic background of Sweden’s grandiose
nature, in stately mansions and seaside cottages, in picturesque towns and in an idyllic,
untouched nature. A roster of outstanding stars and top directors helps bring these
midsummer dreams to life. Who is Inga Lindström? The very Swedish name is actually a
pseudonym of Christiane Sadlo, one of Germany’s prime scriptwriters of romance films,
miniseries and series. Sadlo depicts an ideal world, one that, for her, reflects a longing for
the togetherness of an intact family and the joys of a happy childhood. In fact, her love
of Astrid Lindgren’s immortal children’s books led to her passion for Sweden. The “Inga
Lindström” phenomenon, which has already spawned fan sites and special guided tours of
the original locations, promises to keep viewers coming back again and again to fill up on
90 minutes of appealing heroes, soothing landscapes and moving dramas.
