Please note date and be available to help. Inside this issue: President’s Report 1 D.C.’s Report 2 Results 5 Rally Plan 6 Rally Groups 7 June 2011 President’s Report VicHealth Grant I am pleased to advise that our Club has been successful in its application to VicHealth for a $2,500 grant for the purchase of show jumping equipment. We are most grateful to VicHealth and my sincere thanks go to Christine Cellante for making the application. She’s becoming quite an expert. As part of the grant process, Andrew Garland, Christine and myself were required to attend an evening workshop where we ‘brainstormed’ with others about the issues of running clubs and volunteering. So we might be trying out some new ideas on you all. New Fundraising Team While I am busy thanking people, I must also express my gratitu de to ou r n ew Fundraising Team comprising: Fiona Deacon, Kirsty Wallace, Alison Hee and Joan Kay. These four ladies have kindly agreed to take on this important role for the Club by tackling it in a team effort. Let’s support and get to know them better. They take over from Caron Tunnard who most ably and quietly worked hard behind the scenes over the last year. My sincere thanks Caron. Dressage Day & my turn to Gripe Our annual Dressage Day is on Sunday 28 August, which will replace our usual rally. This is a fun day and if you are new to competing, it’s a good opportunity to give it a go. Entry forms will be available on our website shortly. As we will be limiting the number of entries in some of the grades, make sure to enter early. A working bee is set for Sunday 14 August where we expect the majority of our members to attend, as it is part of your membership duties. A list of jobs will be available on the day for you to choose from and make sure you mark your name off when you attend. Now for the gripe. At the last rally, several members did not turn up to the rally yet they were due to work in the canteen. Can I stress that you must check in the newsletter when you are scheduled for duty and turn up accordingly. (Or swap with someone else) Because of this, the Duty Roster on page 3 has been amended again—so please check it for your name. From now on, we will have an Attendance Duty Roster on the noticeboard at each rally. Make sure that as you do your duty, you write in your name to show you’ve attended. Something Unusual ... Last month I called for members to let me know if they had done something a bit unusual for them. Well I know that Nicola Johnson-Clarke did: she decided to shave her head (a #3 buzz) to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave fundraiser. The Leukaemia Foundation uses the money raised to provide support services for leukaemia patients & their families. Nicola raised over $1600, with the wonderful support of family, frien ds & h er sch ool. Incredibly, she had her hair shaved at school, in the middle of the Assembly Hall, surrounded by 400 Montrose Primary School kids & lots of family members! Great effort Nicola! Until the next issue, stay warm, keep safe and happy riding, Ria Look who’s on duty this month ... Wilson, Ward,Yates, Wallace, Wulf, Millott and PINK GROUP Page 2 Diary Dates Forthcoming Rallies 2011 * 26 June * 24 July (Rallies usually 4th Sunday of each month) Next Committee Meeting 2011 * 4 July At 7.45 pm (1st Monday of each month) Hot Hooves D.C Report Well the cold and wet weather has certainly arrived and between that and the shorter amount of daylight, the horsey people in our house are finding there is a bit more organization and motivation required to get the horses worked and fed and all those extra rugs pulled off and on. We spent a day cleaning out the tack room doing a rug sort. In between dancing around squishing spiders, bugs etc. we managed to sort them into three piles: the beyond help throw away pile, the pile to be sent off to the rug repair lady and the much smaller pile of ready to wear rugs. I always try and keep some of the old rugs as spares for each horse just as a back-up if their good ones need to dry out or get repaired. It saves a last minute (and wallet draining) dash to the shops if something unforseen happens. We have the finalized dates for “C” certificate testing with the theory/ written on the evening of the 3rd of August at Ringwood Pony Club and the ridden/horsemanship on the 6th at Seville Pony Club. Don’t forget you have the “C” camp on the 15th and 16th of July, which will include a practice exam so you know what to expect when faced with the real thing. (There will be lots of fun stuff as well.) I know you will all do wonderfully. If you don’t already have one we have a few copies of the “C” manual available from the uniform shop at $15 (well worth it) and we also have some of the “D & D*” manuals also at $15. These are PCAV recommended and a great easy read for kids with lots of pictures and diagrams. Something that was brought to our attention at a recent NMZ zone meeting was a ruling that Cross Country Colours/Silks must be made in your Club’s colours. They can be any design you like but if it is a pony club event they must be Seville colours (Maroon and white.) Please keep this in mind if you are thinking of purchasing a set for the new season. Something that was suggested by one of our senior members was the purchase of rugby tops in Seville colours for this purpose. If you are interested let me know and we may be able to do a bulk order. Some changes to rally groups this month as we have new members starting next rally and I am in the process of placing them. We also have our “C” and “D*” groups running so some groups will be combined. Any queries regarding rally groups or if you would like to be graded please send me an email or txt BEFORE the rally, as you can appreciate we have in excess of 80 members and I can only see so many in one day. Nicky will be doing some testing at this rally and will have spoken to and given you a time if you are on her list for this month. Please excuse yourself from your group 10 mins before and be ready for Nicky. You cannot change your allocated time. If you would like to sit for the D or D* certificate send me an email and I will put you on the list for an upcoming rally. Finally, to our members not returning to Seville pony club. I hope you take with you fond memories and lasting friendships. Good luck on your chosen path and all the best for the future. And to all our members sitting exams over the next couple of weeks, good luck, we will be thinking of you. Stay safe, have fun, Tracey.
