What Do We Do?
As Carteret County’s Economic Development Council, we
work aggressively to expand the county’s economy, attract
new jobs, and create more economic opportunities for our
members and citizens. The EDC also works on the issues
which impact our future growth and community development, including rail, port and highway infrastructure,
industrial park development, water and sewer needs,
Internet access, marine sciences, workforce training, and
environmental and regulatory issues.
The key to successful business is the ability to focus on
exacting details, while maintaining a clear view of the big
picture. We believe this capability has been the secret to our
exceptional economic development success in recent years.
Your membership in the Economic Development Council
indicates that you, too, support good jobs and quality
economic development in Carteret County!
The Part That Doesn’t Show
What would you do if someone called your office and said, “I
would like the names, addresses and phone numbers of all
our North Carolina elected officials?”
What would you do if that same day you received a letter
asking for information on the county — What are the
largest employers? What is the present and projected
growth rate? What’s the current unemployment rate? Cost
of living figures? Retail sales? Schools? Cherry Point
employment? Per capita income figures? Average wages?
What would you do if a few minutes later a stranger stopped
in your office to tell you that he or she was considering
moving a business to our county and needed information
regarding zoning, taxes, permits, available sites, utilities,
workforce availability and training, licensing and more?
The Economic Development Council answers these and
other questions every day. We provide people with the
information they need to make informed decisions about
start-up and expanding business, the economic climate of
Carteret County, our projected growth and more. It’s a
service that we perform quietly, yet our successes benefit
every person in Carteret County. It’s the part of the EDC
that doesn’t show. But it’s a vital portion of our day-to-day
efforts in representing Carteret County.
