January 16-18, 2015
Grand Geneva • Lake Geneva, WI
Welcome Lions, Lioness, Leos and Guests
to 27-A1’s 37th Annual District Convention
On behalf of the 2015 Convention Committee and all
the Lions, Lioness and Leos of 27-A1, a very warm
welcome to International Director Jack Epperson and his
wife Lion Mary.
We have a dedicated committee of volunteers that work
all year to make this convention fun and educational.
The convention has been designed as a tool to help all our
members excel in Lionism and help those less fortunate in
their communities, so visit the information displays and
participate in the seminars.
For our first time attendees there is a “First Timer” session
created just for you. This session is intended to raise your
awareness of Lion’s programs, our core mission and of
course there will be some fun surprises.
Our membership will be able to get the latest updates from
our Eye Bank, Leader Dog program, Wisconsin Lions
Foundation and the Wisconsin Lions Missions. Members
will have the opportunity to become a certified vision
screener. Join our speakers for an informational seminar on
Identity Theft.

JACK EPPERSON
International Director
Daniel H. Eberhardt Jr.
District Governor 27-A1
Jack Epperson from Dayton,
Nevada, USA, was elected
to serve a two-year term as a
director of Lions Clubs International at the association’s
97th International Convention
held in Toronto, Canada, July 4
through 8, 2014.
Director Epperson was born
in Oakland, California and grew up in the San Francisco
Bay Area. Attended the University of Hawaii (during his
surfing years) and went on to graduate from school there.
After serving three years as an Army Information Systems
Officer he worked as a systems programmer and project
manager. Started several computer support and research
companies that supported the Federal Government (yes he
was a “Beltway Bandit”). Merged his last company with
another government contractor that primarily supported
NASA and eventually sold the company to the employees.
A member of the Dayton Valley Lions Club since 2001, he
has held many offices including district governor, district
GLT coordinator and region chairperson. He has also been a
board member of Lions in Sight of California and Nevada and
chairperson of the Nevada Prison Eyeglass Recycling Project.
In recognition of his service to the association he has received
numerous awards and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities he is active in other
professional and community organizations, including the
American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
Director Epperson and his wife, Mary, also a Lion and
Melvin Jones Fellow, have one son, two daughters and eight
grandchildren.

District 27-A1 Convention
Welcome Lions, Lioness, Leos
and guests to the Wisconsin
Lions District 27-A1 Convention. It is our time to celebrate
our accomplishments we have
done over the last year. Time to
open your “Hearts and Hands”
and meet new friends and time
to greet ones we have not seen
for a while. The theme for this
convention is Casino Royale. So, time to open your “Hearts
and Hands” and welcome to the 37th annual 27-A1 District
convention.
Join me in welcoming our International Director and
key-note speaker Lion Jack Epperson and his wife Lion
Mary from Dayton, Nevada. ID Jack is from the Dayton
Lions club and Lion Mary is from the Rachel Lions Club.
Please, take the time to say hi to both of them and learn
what is new from Lions International. We have a number
of visiting Lion dignitaries and guests from throughout the
state here to share their time and leadership, so make them
feel welcome and don’t be afraid to ask them questions.
I would personally like to thank all the members of our
Convention committee on the hard work they have done.
Thank you, Lion Deb Condon for this is her last year as
Convention Chair. I would like to say thank you to all the
Lions, Lioness, and Leos for all the hard work. That you
have done throughout this year and to the spouses who have
supported us.
Enjoy your weekend and remember, we can “Strengthen the
Pride” by bringing the full Lion’s family closer together by
working in a spirit of cooperation and understanding.

LION PATTI REDLIN
Affilate District President
Lions, Lioness, Leos
& Guests,
Welcome To Your
37th Annual Convention:
My Theme this year is
“Fishing For Lioness” and
I am so proud to say that we
have increased our Lioness
District membership by 8%
from July through November.
Our Lioness have really been getting the word out.
The Lions and Lioness have worked together once again to
put together a very exciting program and I hope you take
advantage of the many seminars that are scheduled for you.
Every year we try to help keep you informed with new
information that comes out. If you ever have ideas for
something you would like to see or hear, please let one of
the convention committee members know. This is your
convention and we would like to hear from you.
I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work this year.
It is always something special to see as this comes together for
hundreds of you to enjoy.
I am enjoying my year and have been amazed at what all
the clubs have been doing. We all work hard to make so
much happen in our communities. They really do appreciate
what you do for them and when you see that smile on their
faces – that says it all.
Keep up the great work and thank you for all you do.
Lioness Patti Redlin

LION BJ BLAHNIK
Leader Dog “Goober”
BJ Blahnik grew up in Seymour,
Wisconsin. He is the youngest
of five children. BJ was raised
around farming with the support
of his family and the community.
His mother Carmella was a teacher for 20+ years and his father
Chuck was in the insurance industry after running the family farm.
BJ was diagnosed with Retinitis
Pigmentosa around the age of 10.
After graduating from Seymour Community High School in 1998,
BJ moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin. He worked for Schneider
National Inc. for 10 years with roles ranging from Customer
Service up to Management in Sales. Due to his diminishing vision,
in 2010, BJ had to retire.
BJ married Victoria in May of 2010 and they have two sons
Emmitt and Trevor. Due to his determination of wanting to work
again he achieved his goal and is now employed at State Farm
Insurance as of December 2013. He is an avid bowler, enjoys
wood working and a volunteer in his community. BJ has been
a Lion member since 2006 and is a current member of the
Sheboygan Noon Lions.
As BJ’s vision diminished he was approached by a local Lion’s
member and suggested he go to Leader Dogs for the Blind. In
2006 BJ’s life was changed forever when he received his first
Leader Dog. In January of 2014 BJ returned to Leader Dogs for
the Blind for his current Leader Dog, Goober a Black Lab. Goober
was raised at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility in Iowa before
his formal training at Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Come listen to BJ’s life journey into Lionism and Leader Dog. You
will hear stories of how a mutated gene changed his life forever
yet allowed BJ to recognize that the struggle of vision can truly
change what we actually see in life.

DISTRICT DUCK
“Mr. Duck” was hand carved by
Donald Streich as a gift for Dr.
Thomas Kidder, who had treated
Mr. Streich’s health problems.
Mr. Streich is diabetic, blind,
hearing impaired and suffers
from chronic arthritis.
In 1994, Dr. Thomas Kidder
presented “Mr. Duck” to the
District 27-A1 convention to raise
money for Lion’s Charities. “Mr.
Duck” as auctioned to a winning
bid to Lion Lenny Weiss.
In 1995, Lion Weiss brought
“Mr. Duck” back to the district
convention complete with case to
be auctioned annually to the Lions
Club presenting the highest bid.
That club would have the privilege
of displaying “Mr. Duck” in the
community. Hence the name
“District Duck”.
