THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT – FEBRUARY 28, 2016
Dear Friends:
Estimados amigos:
In the first reading from the Book of Exodus, after
the Lord reveals himself to Moses, he says to him, “I
have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt
and have heard their cry of complaint against their
slave drivers, so I know well what they are suffering”
(emphasis mine). From this one verse, we gain
great insight into the workings of the Lord. Firstly,
the Lord watches over us and listens to us.
Secondly, the Lord knows full well what and how we
are suffering. Thirdly, as we listen to the rest of the
encounter, the Lord plans to do something about it.
What we do not know is when the Lord will
accomplish our peace and how he will accomplish it.
This asks great belief and trust on our part. This
calls forth great faith on our parts. As far as Moses
is concerned, the Lord is ready to act now. Moses
still has to wait to see just how that it is going to
happen, and the Lord will reveal that in due time.
These stories of our history of faith are most
important for us to take to heart and to remember,
for they speak to us of God’s ongoing engagement
within our lives. The Lord does not stand outside of
us but rather lives within us through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ suffered and died for us so that we
may be happy and fulfilled. The Lord wants us to
live in the peace of his love—to be saved. We do
not always see that. We sometimes view our
happiness in sometimes contrary ways. However,
the Lord knows what we truly desire and need; and
the Lord invites us to discern that in our prayer.
No siempre vemos. A veces
vemos nuestra felicidad de formas a veces al
contrario. Sin embargo, el Señor sabe lo que
realmente desea y necesita; y el Señor nos invita a
discernir en nuestra oración.
With peace and joy!

FaithFULL FOOD DRIVE 2016
As part of the Jubilee of Mercy, Pope Francis has
called upon all of us to practice the corporal and
spiritual works of mercy. The first corporal work
of mercy is to Feed the Hungry. At this time of
the year, many food pantries find themselves with
empty shelves while the requests for food are still
great.
In response, the Diocese of Camden is
organizing its third annual faithFULL Food
Drive. On Sunday, March 6, every parish and
school in the diocese will be asked to bring food
donations, which can be dropped off at church.
Any food collected will remain at our St.
Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
ATTENTION - PALM WEAVING will be starting
Monday February 29th from 1-7pm
at St. Anthony’s Hall. All welcome,
just bring your scissor and stapler and
join us. For additional information
or to place an order please call
Carol Effinger 561-6633 or Pat
Criscillo 567-2154. Park in rear of Church and enter

KNIGHTS CORNER
LITURGY AND MUSIC –
Here are more opportunities to pray together: Stations
of the Cross is this Friday, March 4th 7 p.m. at St.
Joseph Church. It reminds us of His footsteps to His
crucifixion and draws closer to Our Lord. Please come
and join us during this Lenten Journey.
Soup and Stations- Stations of the Cross, Friday,
March 11th, 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony followed by a
meal of soup and salad at St. Anthony Hall.
What is a Mercy Tree?- In this Year of Mercy, we
refer to the cross as a Mercy Tree, a sign of God's
love for us.
We ask that you take a card located in one basket
near the Mercy Tree and write out a petition you
would like to prayer for during Lent.
Place the completed petition in the other basket and
your card will be added to the Mercy Tree (cross). It is
a visible sign of our faith as we ask for God's mercy
during this Lenten Season.
We need you: Ushers are an important part of the
Ministry of Hospitality. They greet us when we enter
church, keep us safe during Mass and assist us during
the liturgy. There is a need for ushers especially at
the 10:15 Mass. Please, if you have a calling and
want to be of service, please speak to any usher after
the 10:15 Mass or call the Parish Center at 704-5945.
The Music Ministry is leading us in chant during Lent
to emphasize the solemnity of the Season. Please join
us and use the blue cards in the pews for the Sanctus
(Holy) and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). Kyrie Eleison,
Christe Eleison, Kyrie Eleison, (Lord, Have Mercy,
Christ, Have Mercy, Lord Have Mercy) is chanted at
the beginning of Mass. The Gloria is not sung during
Lent.
In this Year of Mercy we reflect on the Corporal
Works of Mercy. This week we suggest ways to give
alms to the poor.
* Find a charity that is meaningful to you and volunteer
your time and donate.
* This Lent, give up eating out at restaurants. Pack
you meals and donate the extra money to charities.
*Take time on a Saturday to stop and visit with an
elderly neighbor.
* Next time you make a meal that can be easily frozen,
make a double batch and give it to a family in your
parish who has a sick loved one.
