FITZ
FOCUS
E-BUDDIES !
A great new system is now in place for our Year
7s - eBuddies! During the first few weeks at
FitzWimarc, our Primary Liaison Executives take
special care of the new recruits, escorting them
to lessons and to break and lunchtime. They are
now emailing them as well!
Deputy Head Girl Lydia said, ‘The new scheme
will give the Year 7s a chance to ask questions
without being face to face. It’s nice that they
have a Year 11 pupil they already know.’ Travis
in Year 7 said, ‘It’s a really easy way of asking a
question without having to look around the
school for a prefect.’ Year 7 Citlali said, ‘If
anyone has any worries then there is always
someone there to contact who has experience of
the school.’
Head of Year 7 Mrs Wass, said, ‘The Year 11
prefects really have bonded with the younger
pupils and act as excellent role models. They
are easily identifiable in their black jumpers and
I really do appreciate their support. In those
first few weeks they ensured a smooth transition
from primary to secondary school, and will be a
great help throughout this coming year. I am
confident that this year group will be a very
happy and successful one!’

DOUBLES
DELIGHT!
Pupils and staff can be forgiven
for mistaking some of our new
Year 7s! We have four set of
twins in the year group and they
happily posed for a photograph.
Can you ’spot-the-difference’ ?

On 12 October, Miss Kelly organised a Fundraising
Day and lots of fun was had by all! There was a Staff
Handball match the day before, and a Sponge-theTeacher on the day. Pupils wore non-uniform, and
lots of them organised stalls in the Main Hall. There
was also an opportunity to have a photo taken with
the Olympic Torch. The total counted so far is over
£1800! Final update in the next Fitz Focus.

Sasha, Regan, Thomas, Lydia, Audrey, Summer, Edward and Alex
On 11 October four Year 7s
met with our Head Boy, Girl and Deputies to talk about
life at FitzWimarc!
Lydia asked Thomas Lopez in 7D1 about his first impression of Fitz and what his favourite
lesson was. Thomas said, ‘Fitz is a lot more fun and a lot bigger than Primary School! I
have made new friends in my form and in other forms and, with the help of prefects Georgia
and Danielle, I now know where I’m going! I like Maths, Science and PE.’
Alex had a chat with Edward Bunting in 7D1 who gave some tips for other year 7s. Edward
said, ’It was daunting at first with all the older pupils around, but it’s better than Primary
School! Tips are to make friends quickly; you can help each other find your way around! Be
more organised with books and homework, and try to mix with new people.’ Edward wants
to become a Prefect and wear the black jumper.
Sasha spoke to Regan Boniface in 7A2, asking her about homework, clubs and her hopes
for the future. Regan said, ‘I really love Fitz! My favourite lesson is French and I attend
Badminton and Drama Club. I like to organise myself and always make sure that I finish my
homework ahead of its due date. One day, I may be a Marine Biologist and work with sharks
or become a Gymnast or Dancer.’
Audrey chatted to Summer who has been involved in lots of activities outside lesson time!
Summer said, ‘I have singing lessons, attend Dance, Hockey and Art Club and my favourite
lesson is Music because we get to listen to music and sing! I would love to become a
Prefect in Year 11.’
When asked what two words describe Fitz they said:

FREE MONEY!!!! (OK, now we have
your attention) :-) ,
The PTA is a group that raises funds for the school. We
would like to invite new members along to join us. If you
have ever felt that you would like to 'give something back'
to the school, then joining the PTA is the finest way to do
it. We organise events and have fund-raising ideas, but not
everyone has to 'organise' anything. Often it is help and
good will which is needed. All levels of help, time and commitment are
welcome. If you are interested, please call me on 07967 760730 for a chat. No
obligation - promise!!!

MUSEUM TRIP
On 16 October, our
Year 8s visited the
museum in London
and had a great
day out! George
Moffat and Oliver
George
Davis said, ‘We
enjoying
started off at The
his visit!
Volcano and saw a
video showing what
happens during an eruption and then, in the Earthquake Section, we
experienced an Earthquake Simulator. After this, we went to see the
Dinosaurs and other pre-historic creatures. There was a gigantic TRex Robot and we also saw different fossils. In the Mammals
Section there was a life-size Blue Whale and we learned all about
how humans evolved. In the Human Biology Section we saw the
different stages of how babies form. We than headed off to the
Insects Section and, through a camera, watched ants running around
busily doing their jobs! After lunch, we went to the Theatre and we
had a chance to
hold a replica Giant
Squid!
We had
time to go to the
Gift Shop before
heading home and
really enjoyed our
time
at
the
Museum.
Thankyou to the Science
Department
for
organising our trip!’
YEAR 7 PUPILS - STUDENT SERVICES
After half-term Student Services will not be able to deliver items
such as lunches, money etc to classes.
Pupils will have to go to Student Services to see if said items have
been brought into school by parents/carers.
All Pupils: Please be aware that Student Services do NOT lend
money as a rule, for lunch from Year 8 upwards, as the pupils
should be responsible enough to bring their own lunch or money in.
Any monies loaned must be repaid to Student Services by the next
am registration.
Thank-you, Mrs Hardy
PAST PUPIL SUCCESS
Lauren Tate has been granted a scholarship to study and play
Football for the University of West Alabama in the USA! Lauren
left FitzWimarc in 2010 and studied a BTEC National Diploma in
Sport & Exercise Science for two years at South Essex College
before being offered a place at UWA to study for a Teaching
Degree whilst playing for the UWA ladies soccer team. She left
for the US in August 2012 and has already become a main
player in their team.
HEADING UP SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES!
Lydia, Audrey, Sasha and Alex
Our Head Boy, Girl and their Deputies started their term off to a flying start by speaking to all pupils during
assemblies. Their theme was ‘A Good Role Model’ and the team spoke about their role models and why they
had chosen them. Head Boy Sasha chose Chris Martin from the band Coldplay, not only for his musical talents,
but also for his International charity work. Deputy Head Boy Alex chose Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard,
who, shortly after the death of his mother, scored an important and emotional penalty for his team. Alex felt the
reaction to the goal was moving and inspiring. Audrey chose London 2012 Paralympics athlete Ellie Simmonds,
for her strong work ethic and determination to succeed whilst Lydia chose Mary Foley, a mother from East
London who forgave the murderer of her 15 year old daughter. Caring for others, overcoming difficulties and
forgiveness stood as a powerful message and the team were happy with their efforts; they are perfecting their
public speaking skills and worked hard preparing for the assemblies. During Open Evening, they received
visitors to the school and we are sure that the Year 6 pupils saw them as good role models themselves! The
Senior Pupil Team will judge the Christmas Card Competition (see inside for details) and will be in Rayleigh
High Street to support Rochford Domestic Abuse Reduction Campaign by helping to release Doves on 23
November. There is a Suggestion Box in the Foyer for pupils who would like to contact the Senior Pupil Team
with ideas for improvements within their year group and the school in general.
