VOLUME 49 NO. 7 JULY - AUGUST, 2003 NEW USES FOR OLD TOOLS THE HOLINESS MESSENGER P.O. BOX 472202 TULSA, OKLAHOMA 74147 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED Non-Profit Org. U. S. Postage PAID Tulsa, Oklahoma Permit 418 Editor/Treasurer Ralph Cox P. O. Box 472202 Tulsa, OK 74147 (918) 252-2967 or (904) 824-4253 Co-Editor/Publisher Rev. Bill Parks 9743 E. 66th. St. Tulsa, OK 74133 (918) 249-1944 FAX: 918-252-1244 ARTICLES of FAITH The object for which it is formed is: To preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and promote a better understanding among all brethren. The Word of God alone shall be the Doctrine, Practice, and Discipline of this Board of Members: it being understood that we receive it as the inspired Word of God and the Divine rule of faith and conduct. We believe in God the Father Almighty. Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried and arose on the third day according to the Scriptures, afterwards ascended into heaven were He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, from whence He is come again to judge the quick and dead. We believe in Water Baptism and that is should be administered to every believer according to the Scriptures given by St. Matthew 3:17;28:18; St. Mark 16:15; Acts 8:36-38. We teach that the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin, and sanctifies the believer, thus making him or her eligible to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost which is given to them that obey (Acts 5:32) and the evidence of such experience shall be according to Acts 2:4. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the Communion of the saints, the Lord’s Supper and washing the saint’s feet. We believe that divine healing for our physical bodies was included in His suffering as mentioned by the prophet Isaiah 53:5. It is still available to all who meet conditions and according to His will (James 5:14). We believe that all ministers should be of good report (1 Timothy 3:7-12) including Pastors, Evangelists, Deacons and Elders (Titus 1:5-7); and husbands of one wife. We believe the Church of Jesus Christ to be a living Organism. The Body of Christ, and habitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20-22), and that each true believer is a member of the Body (1 Corinthians 12:14; Acts 2:47). By Brother Ira J. Roberts "...My tongue is the pen of a ready writer." Ps. 45:1 Rev. Ralph & Doreen Cox The yearly subscription rate for the single subscriber is $5.00. Oh, woman, though I fail to stir up an appreciation in the souls of others in regard to your household toils let me assure you, from the kindliness with which Jesus Christ met Martha, that he appreciates all your work, and that the God of Deborah, Hannah, and Abigail and Grandmother Lois, is the God of the Housekeeper. A PREPARATION Oh, my sister, this is a part of the divine discipline! ...This is going make heaven the more attractive in the contrast. They never hunger there and consequently there will be none of the nuisances of catering for appetites. And in the land of the white robe they never have to mend anything, and the air in that hill country makes everybody well. There are no rents to pay; every man owns his own house, and a mansion at that. ...If your life on earth was domestic martyrdom, oh, the joy of an eternity in which you shall have nothing to do except what you choose to do! Martha has had no drudgery for eighteen centuries! I quarrel with the theologians who want to distribute an the thrones of heaven among the John Knoxes and the Hugh Latimers. Some of the brightest thrones of heaven will be kept for Christian housekeepers. Oh, what a change from here to there -from the time when they put down the rolling-pin to when they take up the scepter! Beloved wife of Brother Richard Crayne Pastor of Pentecostal Assembly, Morristown, TN. May God bless all of the Ministers and all of the Churches across the country who held her up in prayer during her sickness and her family in her passing. WITHOUT SPOT OR WRINKLE A CHRISTIAN Housekeeper. One of the most affecting reminiscences of my mother is my remembrance of her as a Christian housekeeper. She worked very hard, and when we would come in from summer play, and sit down at the table at noon, I remember how she used to come in with beads of perspiration along the line of gray hair, and how sometimes she would sit down at the table and put her head against her wrinkled hand and say, ”Well, the fact is, I’m too tired to eat.” Some time ago, in an express train, I shot past that old homestead. I looked out of the window and tried to peer through the darkness. While I was doing so one of my old schoolmates, whom I had not seen for many years, tapped me on the shoulder and said: “De Witt, I see you are looking out at the scenes of your boyhood.” “Oh, yes,” I replied, “I was looking out at the old place where my mother lived and died.” That night, in the cars, the whole scene came back to me. There was the country home. There was the noonday table. There were the children on either side of the table, most of them gone never to come back. At one end of the table my father, with a smile that never left his countenance even when he lay in his coffin. It was an eighty-six years smile -not the smile of inanimation, but of Christian courage and of Christian hope. At the other end of the table was a beautiful, benignant, hard-working, aged Christian housekeeper, my mother. She was very tired. I am glad she has so good a place to rest in. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." Ironing is a very important part of good laundry work. But is it not true that a goodly number of us Christians make the impression of having come home from the laundry “rough dried?“ A striking little leaflet issued not so very long ago calls attention to the fact that there are many good people who have been washed but who need to be ironed. The spots and stains have all been taken out, but the wrinkles remain. God wants a people “without spot or wrinkle or any such thing.” Christ gave Himself for the Church “that He might sanctify it and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious Church (Eph. 5:26~27).” The leaflet goes on to say: “We often meet worldly people who are more considerate of others’ feelings than many are who profess religion. It is a mistaken idea for you to feel that because you have been sanctified wholly you are justified in being rude. If you enjoy the experience of holiness it is all the more reason why you should be polite. Every holy person should study to be a perfect lady or gentleman. We read in the Word of God something about the beauty of holiness; we should exhibit it. Let us make our goods marketable. Let us get rid of the wrinkles.” The Holy Spirit will show us just what our unattractive, Christ-dishonoring wrinkles are, if in humility and confession we ask Him. And the sufficiency of the Lord Jesus Christ is more than equal to doing away with even the wrinkles. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us. ...according as he hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.” Eph. 1:4. -T.
