Mass Intentions & Memorial Candles
If you would like to have a Mass offered for a particular
Intention or for someone who has died, or if you would like to
dedicate a candle to an intention or a loved one, please call the
parish office. The stipend for the Mass is $10. The candles are
$30 for 1 month, $60 for 6 months, or $90 for one year. Our
office staff will help you find an open date and time for a Mass,
or available candles for dedications.
Vocation Awareness Week. November 1-7, 2015 is National Vocation Awareness
Week. This week is dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and
consecrated life through prayer and education and to renew our prayers and support
for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
The parish is a fertile ground for these particular vocations. You can help me
remember those members of our parish, either by membership or association, who
became sisters, priests and deacons. To my knowledge, the parish has produced Fr.
James Herrera. Fr. Herrera went through RCIA here. He was ordained a priest in
2013. We also trained seminarians who are now priests. Remember Fr. Peter O’Brien?
Fr. Guillermo Ramirez? Fr. Bob Picatielo? Fr. Dominic? Fr. Pierson? Fr. Jorge
Robles? And in not very remote time, Deacons Tetzel Umingli and Leon Vigil will
join their ranks. We also have Ace Tupasi, who continues to discern his priestly
vocation.
I encourage the young and the parents to be open to these particular vocations. My office, being the
local vocation promoter, is available to help you understand and navigate the resources available for your
discernment.
To the whole parish, let us pray for vocations. Let us pray for our own youth, that they may desire to
become priests, deacons and religious. Let us also pray for those who are in the seminary and nunnery, that
they may persevere in their vocation. Finally let us pray for those who are active in ministry, that they may
always be faithful and committed to God and their ministry.

The Sanctuary Area. Continuing our discussion about our sacred space, I would like to move forward
giving focus this time to the sanctuary. I would like to lift from the document “Built of Living Stones”
principles governing the sanctuary space. These are paragraphs number 54 and 55 of the above mentioned
document.
“The sanctuary is the space where the altar and the ambo stand, and where the priest, deacon and other
ministers exercise their offices. The special character of the sanctuary is emphasized and enhanced by the
distinctiveness of its design and furnishings, or by its elevation…Its design is to convey the unique quality of
the actions that take place in this area while at the same time expressing the organic relationship between those
actions and the prayer and actions of the entire liturgical assembly. The sanctuary must be spacious enough to
accommodate the full celebration of the various rituals of word and Eucharist with their accompanying
movement, as well as those of the other sacraments celebrated there.”
“The principal ritual furnishings within the sanctuary are the altar on which the Eucharistic sacrifice is
offered, the ambo from which God’s word is proclaimed, and the chair of the priest celebrant. These furnishings should be constructed of substantial materials that express dignity and stability. Their placement and their
design again make it clear that although they are distinct entities, they are related in the one Eucharistic
celebration.”
Semana de Conciencia Vocacional. del 1 al 7 de Noviembre del 2015 es la Semana Nacional de la Concientización sobre la Vocación. Esta semana se dedica a promover las vocaciones al sacerdocio, al diaconado y a la
vida consagrada a través de la oración y la educación y para renovar nuestras oraciones y apoyo para aquellos
que estén pensando en particular en una de estas vocaciones.
La parroquia es un terreno fértil para estas vocaciones particulares. Usted puede ayudar a recordar a los
miembros de nuestra parroquia, ya sea por afiliacion o asociación, para quienes serán hermanas, sacerdotes y
diáconos. Que yo sepa, la parroquia ha dado frutos en estas vocaciones como El Padre James Herrera. Padre
Herrera fue a través de RICA aquí. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 2013. también seminaristas capacitados que

in sub-Saharan Africa and were infected by their
HIV-positive mothers during pregnancy, childbirth

Holy Land Carvings
We will have olivewood carvings available to purchase after all masses next weekend,
November 14-15. The proceeds are to support Christian Catholic families in the Holy
Land; these carvings are the major source of income for them. George Alyateem will be
presenting the carvings. George gets his wares from more than 80 families in Bethlehem. There will be very beautiful
and unique items for sale (Nativities, Crucifixes, Rosaries, Statues).
The Christian population in the Holy Land has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the past two decades and this is a
way to support their continuing to live there. Please stop by the tables in the Gathering Space and purchase some of
these beautiful wares.

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
GIVING ALL
Trusting widows play a significant role in this weekend’s readings. At the point of poverty, when giving even
the smallest amount of what they had could imperil their
health and well-being, they trusted God and gave anyway.
What is important about their giving is not what or how
much they gave, but how they gave it. Without selfishness,
they gave to help others. Their giving was from the heart,
with little hope or intention of receiving any sort of reward
or recognition for their generosity. The monetary values of
the widows’ gifts were small, but their value measured in
the Kingdom was priceless.
There is a significant similarity between their gift and
the gift Jesus gave each of us. The widows offered their
lives for God. Jesus offered his life for us.

ENTREGA TOTAL
Las viudas confiadas juegan un importante papel en
las lecturas de esta semana. Aunque eran pobres y el dar
aún algo bien pequeño podría poner en peligro su salud y
bienestar, confiaban en Dios y daban lo que podían. Lo
que es importante sobre sus donativos no es la cantidad
que daban, sino que daban algo. Sin egoísmo, daban para
ayudar a otros. Su dar salía del corazón, con poca esperanza o intención de recibir algún premio o reconocimiento
por su generosidad. El valor monetario de los dones de las
viudas eran pequeños, pero su valor en la medida del
Reino era inestimable.
Hay una gran semejanza entre su regalo y el regalo
que Jesús ha dado a cada uno de nosotros. Las viudas ofrecieron sus vidas a Dios. Jesús ofreció su vida por nosotros.

GOD’S WORD TODAY
Saint Mark’s Gospel has been a rich source of challenge and inspiration for us as we have moved through
these latter Sundays of Ordinary Time. Today we hear the familiar story of the poor widow who placed her
two small coins in the temple treasury. She did not give from her surplus, simply because she had no surplus.
The Lord tells us that she gave from her poverty. In the first reading the widow of Zarephath gives Elijah her
final store of food. She admits that without this food, she and her son will soon die. Yet her generosity and
selflessness result in a jug of oil that never runs dry and a jar of flour that never goes empty. May these two
women inspire us to respond to the Lord with generous hearts.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
El Evangelio según san Marcos ha sido una fuente caudalosa, llena de retos e inspiraciones para nosotros en
estos últimos domingos del Tiempo Ordinario. Hoy escuchamos la historia tan familiar de la viuda pobre, que
puso dos moneditas en las alcancías del templo. Ella no dio de lo que le sobraba, sencillamente porque nada
le sobraba. El Señor nos dice que ella dio desde su pobreza. En la primera lectura la viuda de Sarepta le da a
Elías el poco alimento que le quedaba almacenado. Ella admite que sin este alimento ella y su hijo pronto
morirían. Y así resultó que por su generosidad y abnegación la vasija de aceite nunca se agotó ni la tinaja de
harina se vació. Que estas dos mujeres nos inspiren a responderle al Señor con un corazón generoso.

Adult Confirmation
If you are 18 or older and have not been confirmed, we invite you to join in the adult
confirmation classes. Confirmation will happen in the spring. The classes will be the 1st and
3rd Tuesday's of each month from December through April at 6:30 PM in the St. Maximillian
Kolbe room. Adults should already be baptized Catholics and have received the sacrament of
Eucharist. Please bring a copy of your baptismal certificate to the first session.
The Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal provides substantial financial support to essential ministries that support parishes in our Catholic Church in western Oregon. In the 2015 Appeal, the Archdiocese highlighted their priority of helping
our young people to encounter Christ personally in their lives, to grow in their
relationship with Jesus and His Church, and to take their rightful places – along with all of us – in the evangelizing mission of the church.
Right now our parish is at 56% of our goal, with 14% participation. We would like to reach our goal with
100% participation … if you have not completed and returned your donation card, please prayerfully make
your pledge and return it to the church office or you may send it directly to the Archdiocese.
