A Message from our Pastor,
Fr. Bob Cilinski
“I say to you arise” MK 5:41
My dear parishioners,
Summer greetings! This past Thursday, June 25th, I
completed my first year at Nativity. I want to thank you for the
warm welcome that you have given me along with many helping
hands in shared ministry. Your words of insight and encouragement
have meant so much. In a time of loss and sorrow, we stood firm in
our faith. We did not fold. We still believed in the power of Christ
to transform death into life and sorrows into joy. It is a privilege to
be your priest and pastor and I will always remember your witness
of faith and love.
In today’s gospel there is a phrase of Jesus that has been
preserved in the original Aramaic language, “TALITHA KOUM”,
which means, “Little girl, I say to you arise”. It only happens two
times in the teaching of Jesus in the gospel. Scripture scholars think
that these phrases were something that Jesus said so often that they
stood out. We find ourselves acknowledging things that our
parents, coaches, teachers and friends always used to say. The
record phrase of Jesus is “Ephphetha” which means “Be opened”.
The gospel writers are telling us that Jesus always used to say
“little one arise”. He was always lifting people up, restoring them
to dignity and worth, healing and forgiving them. Jesus always
used to say “Be opened”. It was an invitation to something new, to
abandon old ways of thinking, old ways of sin and self
centeredness. “Be opened” to a new life with God, not being quick
to judge or label, but respecting each other as brothers and sisters.
“Be opened” to the capacity to be a channel of God’s love and life
to others. “Be opened” to a life without end. These are the things
that Jesus was always saying and that are remembered in its
original language.
As I finish my first year as your pastor, I once again want
to say “Thank You” to Fr. Dick Martin, who was pastor at Nativity
for 17 years. We remember his pastoral ministry, his joyful spirit,
care for the poor and efforts to be good and kind to everyone. We
honor his person and his priesthood which brought such renewal to
the Church. All the good that he did lives on in our lives...and we
remember...Fr. Martin always used to say:
“When you point a finger three of your fingers point right
back at ‘you’”.
“That we don’t have to like each other, but we must love
each other”.
“What we give will come back double”.
“Your grandmother’s favorite saying, ‘Give me my
flowers while I am living’”.
“Our tomorrows must not only be different, they must be
better because we were there”.
“Thank you for unconditional love, but most of all your
gift of ’presence’”.

Building Construction Update
The construction of the new Parish Center and
classrooms additions continues and the extended parking
lot site work is taking place. Yeah!!!
Interior renovations to the school and Religious
Education Center has begun. Access to the hallways will
be available, but as the expression goes, “Pardon our
Dust”.
The School/Religious Education lobby is being
renovated. The stone pond/garden is being removed. It
was originally intended to be a pool of water when it was
built in the nineties, but liability and safety concerns for
children did not allow it to be filled with water. So it was
turned into a stone garden with the Blessed Mother statue
in the middle.

open up the lobby for “people” to gather, which is what
its main purpose is.
Thanks for everyone’s patience during renovation and construction. We will sacrifice for a few months,
but then it will be beautiful.

Car Raffle Results
Car Raffle...In addition to having some Nativity winners
in the car raffle, we received $39,278 in proceeds from
the ticket sales. Those proceeds aided the Knights of
Columbus, Charities ($14,000), Youth Ministry Work
Camp 2015 ($6,000) and over $16,000 to the Capital
Campaign. Thank you to everyone who prepared and
participated in this fundraising activity.

Special Kids-Special Needs Thank You
Thank you and the Church of the Nativity parishioners
for your recent $1,750.00 Special Kids-Special Needs
quarterly tithing donation, which as you know, will be
used to support special education needs such as the Paul
VI High School and Pope John Paul the Great Option
Programs, St. Mark Church’s Evangelist Program,
George Mason University’s Life Program, Special Olympics, Gabriel Home, and the diocese “Keyboard for Kids”
program providing audio/visual communication
capability to intellectually challenged students. Please be
assured all collection donations will be disbursed in their
entirety to diocesan special education programs. On behalf of Bishop Loverde, Porto Charities extends a sincere
thank you for participating in the Special Kids-special
Needs Collection assisting God’s Special Children.

Prayer for the New Parish Activity Center
Heavenly Father, author and inspirer of all things holy, hear our
prayers for our new Parish Center. Send forth Your Spirit that we
may humbly be guided by your Divine Will. Touch our hearts
with true generosity to raise up a Parish Center for the inspiration
and renewal of your faithful.
May the God who bestows great gifts on us continue to
bless us and nourish us in the days ahead. May our work always
reflect God’s glory. May our lives always reflect God’s mercy.
May our hearts always reflect God’s love. Bless us Lord, as we
gather, as we share, and as we work for your Kingdom.

SCHOLARSHIPS BESTOWED
The last few weeks here at Nativity have been filled with joyful


Individual Catholic high schools award scholarships based
on student scores from the High School Placement Test
(HSPT). These scholarships pay 50% of the recipient’s
high school tuition for all four years. Both Rosemary Paulson and Michael Policarpio received scholarships from
Bishop O’Connell High School, based on their 99% HSPT
scores.

The Knights of Columbus, Father Vincent Sikora Council,
No. 7992, awards five $1,000 scholarships to students who
will be attending Catholic high schools. This year, THREE
of them were awarded to Nativity School students —
Rosemary Paulson, Marina
Rodarte, and Christopher
Meyer.

The Knights of Columbus also awards the Kathy Davis
Memorial Scholarship, which pays one full school year of
tuition for the recipient. Based upon student service to others and strong academic performance, the award is given
annually to one student currently attending Nativity Catholic School. This year’s recipient, Melea Lineberry, is a
rising Eighth grader and incoming student council president.

We give our own award, the “Nativity Star,” to one
of our graduating 8th grade students, who best exemplifies good citizenship, academic excellence, personal integrity, and “living as Jesus did.” Our recipient
this year is Sam Aslakson.

The Upper Room Theater Ministry is presenting the Timeless
Musical Adventure, Peter Pan, featuring our own parishioner,
Antonio LaNave as “Michael”, on July 14-18 (Tuesday thru
Saturday) at 7:30pm and on July 18-19 (Saturday and Sunday) at 1:30pm. The performances take place at All Saints
Performing Arts Center, 9310 Stonewall road, Manassas.

LA FE COMO RESPUESTA

Papa Benedicto XVI, no hace
mucho tiempo, nos sorprendió con
la siguiente frase “Nos hemos de liberar
de la falsa idea de que la fe ya no tiene
nada que decir a los hombres de hoy.
Al acercarnos al evangelio de este
domingo, nos encontramos con dos
situaciones diferentes pero con una misma respuesta: la fe.

onde hay fe, siempre nace un intento de
superación. No caben los imposibles. Con la fe, es posible
hacer frente a los escenarios más embarazosos o
arriesgados de nuestra vida.
¡Una cosa te pido, que tengas en fe en mí! Y, qué malo nos
sabe, cuando las personas dudan de nuestras capacidades.
Es en ese momento cuando se rompe todo, cuando se nos
quitan las ganas de hacer algo o de salir al encuentro de
alguien.
Jesús, a la hija de Jairo o a la mujer que padecía flujos de
sangre, no les pide su carnet de identidad. Ni, tan siquiera
mira su procedencia, estatus o religión. Jesús, como
siempre, va al fondo: les pide fe. Fe en El. Y, lo demás,
vendrá por añadidura.

uchas veces nos quejamos que, en antaño,
parece que los milagros estaban más presentes o que se
daban con más abundancia que ahora. No es verdad; todos
los días –sin percatarnos de ello- en miles, en millones de
lugares y en ambientes dispares, el Señor va haciendo de
las suyas. Entre otras cosas porque, hoy como ayer, se va
encontrando con gente que sufre, que llora, que muere, que
se desangra….pero que no deja de tener fe en Jesucristo.
Este día, por lo tanto, es un momento muy apropiado para
interpelarnos sobre la hondura y la radicalidad de nuestra fe.
Incluso, sería bueno, que pensáramos cuánto hace que, el
Señor, no ha obrado algún prodigio extraordinario en nuestro
entorno, en nuestra familia, en nosotros mismos. ¿Tal vez
porque no encuentra fe? La fe es la condición imprescindible
para la actuación de Dios. Y, hay que reconocerlo,
preferimos abandonaros en manos de lo inmediato,
echarnos en los brazos de la simple y pura ciencia antes que
confiarnos exclusivamente al Señor.
Pidamos al Señor que nuestra fe sea inconmovible y
confiada. Que nada ni nadie nos aleje de El. Sólo El puede
sacarnos de situaciones que dificultan nuestra felicidad.
¿Tienes fe? nos pregunta el Señor; sanarás, te recuperarás,
brillará de nuevo en ti la alegría de vivir.
¿Tienes fe? Entonces no te faltará auxilio en los momentos
en los que, por debilidad o enfermedad, veas que la vida se
te escapa irremediablemente

¿Tienes fe? Cuídala. Con una oración sincera. Con la
escucha de la Palabra de Dios. Con la contemplación.
Con el agradecimiento a Dios por haberte hecho hijo
suyo por el Bautismo.
¿Tienes fe? No te des por vencido en las causas nobles.
Lucha con toda tu alma para que, el mundo que te rodea,
deje de ser un flujo de injusticias, de sangre o de
desencanto.
¿Tienes fe? ¡Entonces, el Señor, te necesita! Eres de los
suyos. Ofrécele, tu fe, como respuesta.
TENGO FE, PERO AYUDAME

Hace mucho tiempo, Señor,
que estoy enfermo:
mis piernas se resisten a progresar
por las sendas de la fe,
buscan otros parajes más persuasivos
menos complicados y hasta menos exigentes.
Hace bastante tiempo, Señor,
que mis manos dejaron de abrazar a todos:
buscan lo fácil, la recompensa,
el amor por el amor, la gratitud por lo que dan.
Hace no sé cuánto, mi Señor,
que mi cuerpo derrama flujos de sangre:
de apatía y desencanto
inseguridad y altivez
orgullo, prisas, caídas,
pesimismo, desorientación y preocupación.
¿Me ayudarás, Señor?
Como la hija de Jairo necesito vida
Como el flujo de sangre
necesito que cortes de raiz
la herida que me debilita y me mata,
la sangre que necesito para vivir o darte gloria.
Sí, Señor; tengo fe pero…ayúdame.
Porque, si miro a mi alrededor,
veo que poco o nada pueden hacer por mí
Porque, hace mucho tiempo,
mucho tiempo, Señor, que los que me ven
ya no hacen nada por mí.
Por eso, Jesús, fuente de la salud y de la vida:
ayúdame a salir de las situaciones que me postran
a superar tantos flujos de sangre
que me dejan sin posibilidad de brindarme
por Ti, por tu Reino y por los que me necesitan
Y si me pides algo, mi Señor,
sabes que mi pobre fe,
aunque Tú la puedes hacer más rica
es lo que te puedo ofrecer como recompensa.

APRENDE TU FE
Ponerme entre tus manos
Reflexiones Jesucristo
Te dejaré entonces guiar mis pasos, sostener mi corazón,
curar mis heridas, perdonar mis pecados.

Un momento de pausa. El sol
inicia su caída. La noche
avanza con prisas. Llega el
tiempo necesario para
descansar. El camino no
termina. Dejo para mañana el
inicio de una nueva etapa.
¿Qué ha sido de este día? ¿Qué pude sembrar?
¿Qué recibí? ¿Dónde estuvo anclado mi corazón?
¿Hacia dónde dirigí mi mirada?
Hoy avancé entre dudas y certezas, alegrías y
penas. Tuve ratos de luz y momentos de oscuridad. El
camino sigue allí, y mañana tendré que reemprender la
marcha.
Las noticias a mi alrededor hablan de guerras y
de crímenes, de injusticias y de hambres, de pecados y
de angustias. El mundo no consigue esa felicidad que
tanto anhela.
Mientras, hombres y mujeres desconocidos
levantan sus manos y dirigen una oración al Dios que
hizo el cielo y la tierra, que nos sueña y nos espera, que
nos perdona y nos salva.
Mi vida pende de un hilo frágil. Hoy tomé
decisiones, inicié proyectos, fracasé y empecé de nuevo.
La salud me sostuvo, pero mañana puede llegar ese
accidente tan temido. O, Dios lo quiera, esa ayuda que
viene de lo alto y limpia las heridas de mi alma.
No hay certezas en este mundo inquieto. Sólo
puedo mirar al cielo y descubrir, más allá de las
tinieblas, la belleza del hogar en el que el Padre espera a
cada uno de sus hijos.
Ante el camino que me espera necesito,
simplemente, ponerme entre tus manos, abandonarme a
tu Amor. Te dejaré entonces guiar mis pasos, sostener
mi corazón, curar mis heridas, perdonar mis pecados.
Permitiré que seas ese Amigo íntimo que escucha y
aconseja, que acaricia y que levanta, que salva y que
acompaña.

Dios está presente en la historia de tu vida

Al volver la vista atrás en la
propia vida podemos descubrir la
presencia de Dios que nos
acompaña y cuida con mano de
Padre.

¡Sí! La historia nos habla de la presencia y del amor de
Dios para la humanidad y para cada hombre
personalmente. Desde el inicio de la creación, cuando
Dios creó al hombre a su imagen y el hombre rechazó
esta amistad por su desconfianza y desobediencia, la
historia nos muestra el esfuerzo del hombre para volver a
encontrar la felicidad que tenía al principio pero había
perdido.
También nos habla de la presencia continua de
Dios que ayuda el hombre a descubrir que su verdadera
felicidad sólo se encuentra en Él. Podemos ver todo esto
en concreto en el Antiguo Testamento, que es nada más
que la historia del Pueblo Escogido de Israel y nos habla,
como la historia de tantos otros pueblos, de reyes, de
guerras, de héroes y de traidores, pero, también, de
manera explícita, de la presencia perenne y de la acción
favorable de Dios hacía “su” Pueblo.
Pero el instante definitivo de la historia ha
llegado hace más de 2000 años cuando Dios se ha hecho
hombre, en la Persona de Jesucristo, y ha querido vivir y
compartir la vida humana en todas sus realidades
cotidianas de la familia, del trabajo, del amor y del
sufrimiento. La vida de Jesucristo no sólo ha marcado al
mundo durante unos años, sino que su influencia ha
venido perpetuándose hasta hoy. Además, varias de las
páginas más importantes y más bellas de la historia,

Desde que Dios quiso entrar en el tiempo no sólo
la historia de un Pueblo está acompañada por la presencia
de Dios, sino toda la humanidad, así como cada persona.
Al volver la vista atrás en la propia vida y en la propia
historia personal, muchos pueden descubrir también esta
presencia divina que les acompaña y les cuida con mano
de Padre.

humanidad. Con Cristo se hizo realidad la promesa: Dios
entró en la historia y quiso rescatar a los que vivíamos en las
tinieblas del pecado y del error (Ef 5,8; Col 1,13-14). Por eso
la historia tiene un sentido sagrado: cada momento puede
quedar redimido por Cristo, o puede seguir manifestando las
tinieblas del pecado.
A pesar de que alguno tenga motivos para pensar que
hay más pecado que santidad y que el cristianismo ha
fracasado después de más 2000 años de historia, lo cierto es
que el perdón de Dios sigue disponible para todos los que lo
acojan. Pablo de Tarso se convirtió cuando perseguía a los
cristianos.
También hoy cada hombre o mujer puede cambiar su
vida cuando llegue a esta certeza: Cristo "me amó y se
entregó a sí mismo por mí" (Ga 2,20).

Cada día es una maravillosa oportunidad de dar gracias a
Dios por todo lo que se nos da tan gratuita, tan regalado, tan
como Don.
Muchas ocasiones vemos la vida como una cadena
de sufrimiento, y por momentos se nos hace que vivimos
encadenados al desorden, al pecado, al sufrimiento, sin
embargo, deteniendo un poco la existencia, en la
contemplación del amor de Dios, nos damos cuenta que cada
situación vivida es una oportunidad o una prueba que nos
prepara para dar respuesta a la siguiente oportunidad, por eso
me parece importante ver la vida como un continuo nacer
para recuperar el sentido de sorpresa, es decir: ¡Que
maravilloso es vivir la luz del sol!
Que milagro respirar en este instante. La vida es una
permanente sorpresa, Dios nos sale al encuentro en cada
recodo del camino, con dones espirituales y materiales.
Este sentido de nacer cada día para agradecer a Dios,
en ningún momento significa olvidar la experiencia, es decir
esa historia vivida, experimentada y disfrutada. Para poder
dar una respuesta a Dios en el día de hoy, Dios en su infinita
bondad me preparó el día de ayer, por eso he de nacer cada
día sin olvidar.
Nacer para descubrir el encanto del presente
providente de Dios, sin olvidar la misericordia de nuestro
padre Dios que nos ha llamado desde toda la eternidad a vivir
con Él.
Nacer cada día a la Providencia de Dios, sin olvidar
su eterna Misericordia.
