The Daymark 2014 Spring Gala,
titled Take Me Home, featured
area talent, local chefs, and a
silent auction of local goods and
services. A former New Connections resident who credits the
agency for many positive
changes in his life spoken about
his family, his military career,
and how New Connections made
it possible.
The evening’s entertainment was
provided by local artists Magician
John Slicer, Comedy Troup The
No Pants Players, and Popular
Band Santa Cruz. A silent auction of area merchandise and
certerpieces of Blenko glass
were featured and food and
cocktails (such as moonshine)
completed the evening.
Chefs for the evening included
Distinctive Gourmet, Zando Catering Unlimited, Wellingtons,
Holiday Inn and Suites Charleston West, The Chop House, Tidewater, Berry Hills Country Club,
Bridge Road Bistro, and D’Artagnan LLC.

objectives. Community service is a two-way street however, as I’ve also found that I
also learn as much from my
experiences as I give in service.
Such is the way with my in-
volvement with the Daymark,
Inc. board. I’ve been a board
member for about 5 years
now, and it is amazing how
each year brings new challenges and opportunities.

We are a very active board,
with regular monthly meetings
in addition to several committees that meet relatively frequently. Some of our issues
are common to other not-forprofit organizations, such as
funding concerns, but some
are unique with respect to the
nature of the services we
provide to youth.

Our board members have very
diverse backgrounds, including lawyers, financial advisors
and accountants, and former
social services workers.
Therefore, our discussions of
issues encompass all aspects
as they would affect the organization. We also have
youth members on our board,
who can bring a different perspective of those we strive to
serve.

parts of our board meetings
include when we have the
opportunity to interact with
some of the youth in our pro-
RIVER RIDGE CHURCH
River Ridge Church contacted
Programs Director Dana Cutlip in January about a project
at one of the DAYMARK facilities. After some planning, the
congregation decided that
instead of having Sunday
service at their church on
April 6, they would have Service Sunday at Patchwork.
About twenty people came to
Patchwork and painted the
entry/dining room, stairwells
from the first to third floors,
the youth lounge, hallways on
the second and third floors,
all of the youth bedrooms, the
third floor bathroom, and trim

grams, who come and tell us
their story about how Daymark’s programs have impacted their lives. Such experiences help us as board
members and volunteers see
the fruits of our efforts, and
continue to reinforce our commitment to helping the organization meet its objectives.
Another aspect of being involved with the Daymark
Board is the ability to interact
with the Daymark staff. They
are all so wonderful and caring, and they work so hard to
help the youth, it is truly a
pleasure to help them do
what they do.
As the current Board Chairperson of Daymark, I would like
to thank all of our board
members for their time and
efforts, thank all our staff for
their commitment to serving
youth through Daymark’s
programs, and thank all our
sponsors and donors for their
continued support.

These wonderful workers
arrived at 9:30 and painted
steadily until after 4pm that
day. The age range was from
11 years old to 60.. They did a
fantastic job and were enthusiastic and ready to go. DAYMARK provided snacks and
drinks for the volunteers.
Many asked about DAYMARK
services and spoke with the
youth who are residing at
Patchwork. Some Turning
Point and Patchwork youth
and staff had prepared for the

be painted. (That was also a
big job!)
