St. Julie Billiart Parish From the Desk of Father George Greetings Parishioners and friends of St. Julie’s, nd On this 2 Sunday of Advent, John the Baptist’s appearance in the gospel is the dawning of a new age. His message is one of repentance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. In addition, the Baptist also announces that there is another to come after him whose sandals he is not worthy to loosen and who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. Of course, we know that person to be Jesus! Imagine the emotions associated with the Baptist’s announcements. His appearance and his message were rather nonconventional, and yet he drew crowds. We too are invited to that message 2000 years later. In the midst of our busy preparations for Christmas, it is important to take time to pray and experience the peacefulness of giving. Take time to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation. Arrive at mass early, taking time to pray and staying until mass is ended. Extend a sincere greeting or apology to someone you have hurt. There are so many things each of us can do… and each of them can proclaim the grace of God among us. Fr. George And, speaking of reconciliation... St. Julie’s will be hosting the St. Julie/St. Peter Advent Communal Reconciliation Service this year. There are currently nine priests who will be available to celebrate the sacrament with you on Sunday, December 14th at 7:00 p.m. Additional/extended times for the sacrament will be: Saturday – December 13th 3:30 – 4:30 and after the 5:00 Mass Saturday – December 20th 3:30 – 4:30 and after the 5:00 Mass Monday – December 22nd 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Also… Remember that December 8th is a Holy Day of Obligation. There is no vigil Mass since it would be on a Sunday evening and Masses celebrated on Sunday only fulfill the Sunday obligation. The Holy Day will be celebrated in the Church on Monday – December 8th at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Mass Intentions Dec. 6 - Saturday Dec. 7 - Sunday Dec. Dec. Dec. Dec. Dec. Dec. Family Perspective John the Baptist stood out from the crowd. The way he dressed, his lifestyle, his fervor, his commitment to proclaiming the coming of Jesus Christ. Families proclaim their beliefs every day by the way they live and the choices they make. Do our family’s priorities proclaim our belief in Jesus? John the Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me." A Very Big Thank You We would like to thank each and every parishioner who gave so much to make our St. Julie’s Thanksgiving Dinner a success. As our parish family, you made food contributions, financial contributions, and countless volunteer hours in order to assure that our dinner was a celebration to be remembered. Preparations began with the Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Dinner which earned sufficient funds to cover any expenses that could not be covered by the sign up list in the back of the church. Everyone worked together for the three days leading up to the dinner and the day of the “bountiful feast.” Thank you for making the dinner such a success. Well over 300 meals were served.
