OUR LENTEN BLESSINGS
It has been a little over a month since we have begun our Lenten journey as a community. Ash Wednesday's
readings challenge us to examine our lives by posing a question: "Where have we missed the mark in our
relationship with God and one another?”
Our Lenten path of conversion calls us to grow as a people of gratitude and service. Our seasonal journey is
one of a people who seek to more firmly embrace this purpose in our world - To answer God's call to see and be
blessing. We do this by being that grain of wheat that dies to old ways so as to embrace the new possibilities God
wants for our lives. We do this by washing one another's feet.
This morning, as I scanned through Gratitude 365 app on my smartphone, reflecting on my posting over the
last five weeks of Lent, I could not help but be amazed by ways this parish community has been blessing through
service. Let me share with you a few examples:
St. Camillus conducted retreats for all ages, from children to seniors. Each one was filled with powerful
moments of grace-filled reflections. Perhaps, the most compelling was the retreat led by our young people. They
poured an incredible amount of creativity and passion into it. The fruits of their efforts were evident in the countless
tears shed by a group of teenagers, and in the personal testimonies they shared.
After we were hit by storm after storm, dozens of our fellow parishioners blessed us all by shoveling away
the snow. Their generous Lenten gift assured that all who arrived for weekend worship did so safely.
For hundreds of struggling families, their Lenten blessing came in the form of a bag filled with food. Last
Saturday, immigrant parishioners filled the Camillia Room seeking guidance and assistance to apply for Immigration
relief. There they were assisted by other parishioners who had sought special training to help them.
To be sources of God's hope to the incarcerated, seven of our brothers and sisters have spent Lent preparing
a Kairos retreat. This retreat is the ecumenical blessing they will offer during Easter Week as a sign of God's hope for
a new life.
During Lent, another group of twenty-seven St. Camillus parishioners has been preparing to leave their
comfort zones and head out to South Dakota to humbly accompany, serve and be a blessing to and be blest by our
Lakota brothers and sisters.
Over the last two weeks, many members of our Latino community devoted countless hours of service giving
the friary basement a badly needed facelift. One time, I came back home late from a conference in NYC. It was
after midnight, and they were still working! Their Lenten generosity benefits our whole community, as it is one of the
most used spaces in the St. Camillus campus.
Throughout the Fridays of Lent, the Knights of Columbus worked tirelessly in the kitchen. Thanks to them,
many people, tired after a long week's work, didn’t have to cook but could enjoy a delicious fish feast in the good
company of fellow parishioners.
Some of our other parish groups have also been a blessing by creating unique opportunities for prayer and
reflection. They helped us to focus on contemporary manifestations of the cross, such as human trafficking.
Conscious of their call to see and be blessing to each other, fifty couples gathered for a day of marriage
enrichment. Our multicultural youth group has been serving breakfast to daily laborers in Langley Park.
Seeking to be a greater source of blessing to others, twenty men who are part of our Man’s Ministry group
gathered to reflect together on the Parable of the Prodigal Son and on what it means in their lives. In the process,
many of them felt blessed by the rare opportunity to share and be vulnerable in a safe space.
Several dozen folks from our parish have been attending for months to hundreds of big and small details
involved in the intricacies that make Holy Week liturgies. Decorations and music have been carefully selected.
Schedules are set for countless rehearsals. Devoted Faith Formation staff have given final instructions to
Catechumens and Candidates. All these blessings will become manifested gloriously at the Vigil enriching all of us.
Of course, there is also the parking lot ministry. Through God's grace somehow these devoted servants keep
chaos at bay throughout it all.
All of these people and so many more have devoted a significant part of their Lent to being blessings to our
community. They have washed our feet in so many ways. Much of their hard work and preparation remains
unrecognized by most of us. However, all these efforts are undoubtedly seen by God – the source of all our
blessings.

Join us Good Friday for a Silent Prayer Vigil 12-3pm in
the Meditation Room
You are warmly invited to join us Good Friday (April 3)
any time between 12noon-3 pm in the Meditation Room for
a time of silence, reflection, and prayer. You are welcome
to come for a brief visit or stay for the full 3 hours. Both
chairs and cushions are available. Join us during these
sacred hours as we reflect on the mystery of
Christ's redemptive love.
The Meditation room is located down the hall from the Clare
center (2nd floor room with an entrance near the Camillia
Room.)

Support Discover Books Collection Box Program
Please donate your gently used books at the
blue Discover Books bins on the drive near the
Beacon Rd. entrance to the school and in the
main parking lot of the church by the stairs to
the school.
Your contributions are important! In exchange
for your donated used books, we get valuable books for
children who come with their parents to our food pantry. It
helps them to improve their reading skills and be more
successful in school. But we need your support.

Last weekend St. Camillus food pantries served 234
families. The Annual Lenten Food Drive concluded on
March 15th. We are pleased to report that we collected over 1760 pounds of food to support the pantry!
We want to thank you for your generosity, especially
to the volunteers, who helped us with so many tasks.
If you forgot to bring your donation last weekend, you
can place a monetary donation in the collection in an
envelope marked “St. Camillus Food Pantry” or write a
check to the “St. Camillus Food Pantry”. We greatly
appreciate your generosity.

On Good Friday, our parish will take up the annual Good
Friday Collection for the Holy Land. Your financial
contribution helps to support the struggling Christian

in the Holy Land and protect Christianity’s

Good Friday Procession
Our annual Good Friday procession starts at Our
Lady of Sorrows Church at 11:00am. This year
St. Camillus will provide transportation only for
drivers from 9:00am to 12:30pm. If you are
interested in joining the procession, please drop
you family at Our Lady of Sorrows and then
drive back to St. Camillus to ride the bus.

Yoga in St. Camillus
On-going Yoga classes are offered every Tuesday from
6:15pm to 7:30pm in the Sun Room of
Victory Oaks. Packets of 7 classes at $6.50 per
class are offered to benefit the St. Vincent de
Paul Poor Box of our parish. The next packet
begins on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. If you are
new to yoga and want to experience this
ancient discipline, be our guest this day. Bring a mat or a
beach size towel and wear comfortable clothes.

Congressional budget proposals; reauthorization of
federal child nutrition programs
Earlier this month, the House and Senate
Budget Committees released their budget
proposals for the next federal fiscal year.
Both proposals contain enormous cuts to
effective anti-hunger programs.
For
example, the House budget proposes
cutting $140 billion from SNAP (formerly called food
stamps); under these cuts, participants in SNAP would lose
220 meals a year -- 10 weeks' worth of food! SNAP is our
country’s largest child nutrition program, providing nearly 21
million children with meals when many would go without
them otherwise.
The Senate budget proposes cutting
Medicaid by $400 billion; Medicaid provides health coverage
for 28 million children.
Congress has proposed to use cuts to anti-poverty programs
as the primary means for deficit reduction. Please call

Baptismal Preparation Class
The next Baptismal Class will be held on
Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 in the St. Francis
Room. The class is mandatory for both parents

Pilgrimage for World Apostolate of Fatima
On Saturday, May 23, the Archdiocese of Washington
division of the World Apostolate of Fatima will hold an allday priest-led bus pilgrimage to the Immaculate Heart of
Mary Shrine in Washington, NJ. This location is the national
headquarters for the World Apostolate of Fatima, USA.
Pilgrimage includes round-trip bus fare, hymns, confession,
Rosary, Mass, the picnic area, a visit to the Holy House, and
time for private reflection on the beautiful grounds. For more

Durante la Semana Santa, nuestro camino
cuaresmal hacia una vida nueva en Cristo llega a su
conclusión. Esta semana la iglesia lava los pies, conmemora la institución de la Eucaristía, proclama la
Pasión de Nuestro Señor y venera la cruz de esa
Pasión. La culminación de nuestro camino cuaresmal
es la Vigilia de Pascua en la noche del sábado. Allí
escuchamos la historia de nuestra salvación, damos
la bienvenida a la iglesia a 28 nuevos miembros través del Bautismo, la Comunión y la Confirmación y
elevamos “Aleluyas” en gratitud y alabanza de la
victoria de Cristo sobre la muerte. Que nuestra fe y
la participación de lleno en los servicios de Semana

Misa Anual de Jubileo Matrimonial 2015
El Cardenal Donald Wuerl estará presidiendo la Misa anual

anual del Viernes Santo para la Tierra Santa. Su contribución
monetaria sirve para a apoyar a la comunidad cristiana que

Yoga en San Camilo

ofrecen paquetes de 7 clases a $6.50 por clase
todo para beneficio del ministerio San Vicente de

Nuestras Bendiciones de Cuaresma
Ha sido poco más de un mes desde que iniciamos nuestro camino cuaresmal como comunidad. Las lecturas del
miércoles de ceniza nos desafían a examinar nuestras vidas planteando una pregunta: “¿Dónde hemos perdido la marca en
nuestra relación con Dios y con el prójimo?
Nuestro camino cuaresmal de conversión nos llama a crecer como personas de gratitud y servicio. Nuestro viaje de
temporada es de una persona que busca con firmeza abrazar este propósito en nuestro mundo – para responder el llamado
de Dios para ver y ser bendición. Hacemos esto al ser el grano de trigo que muere a las viejas formas para abrazar las
nuevas posibilidades que Dios quiere para nuestras vidas. Hacemos esto lavando los pies de los demás.
Esta mañana al escanear la aplicación Gratitud365 en mi teléfono, reflexionaba en lo que publiqué las últimas cinco
semanas de cuaresma, no podía dejar de asombrarme de las maneras que esta comunidad parroquial ha sido bendición a
través de su servicio. Déjenme compartir unos ejemplos:
San Camilo realizó retiros para todas las edades, desde niños hasta personas mayores. Cada uno estuvo lleno de
poderosos momentos de reflexiones llenas de gracia. Tal vez, el más convincente fue el retiro dirigido por nuestros jóvenes.
Vertieron una cantidad increíble de creatividad y pasión en esto. Los frutos de sus esfuerzos fueron evidentes en las
innumerables lágrimas derramadas por un grupo de adolescentes y en los testimonios personales que compartieron.
Después que fuimos impactados por tormenta tras tormenta, docenas de nuestros feligreses nos bendijeron
sacando la nieve del estacionamiento. Su generoso regalo de cuaresma aseguró que todos los que llegaran para la Misa lo
hicieran de forma segura.
Para cientos de familias necesitadas, su bendición de cuaresma vino en forma de una bolsa llena de alimentos. El
sábado pasado, feligreses inmigrantes llenaron el salón San Camilo en busca de orientación y ayuda para solicitar alivio de
inmigración. Todos recibieron ayuda de otros feligreses que recibieron entrenamiento para ayudarlos.
Para ser fuentes de la esperanza de Dios a los encarcelados, siete de nuestros hermanos y hermanas han pasado la
cuaresma preparando un retiro Kairos. Este retiro es una bendición ecuménica que se ofrecerá durante la semana de
Pascua como un signo de la esperanza de Dos para una nueva vida.
Durante cuaresma, otro grupo de veintisiete feligreses de San Camilo se han preparado para dejar su zona de
confort y dirigirse a Dakota del Sur para humildemente acompañar, servir y ser una bendición y ser bendecidos por
nuestros hermanos y hermanas Lakotas.
Durante las últimas semanas, muchos de los miembros de nuestra comunidad latina dedicaron innumerables horas
de servicio para renovar el sótano de la casa parroquial. Una vez, regresé tarde a casa de una conferencia en NY, era
después de la medianoche y todavía estaban trabajando. Su generosidad cuaresmal bendice a toda la comunidad, ya que es
uno de los espacios más utilizados en San Camilo.
A lo largo de los viernes de cuaresma, los Caballeros de Colón trabajan incansablemente en la cocina. Gracias a
ellos, muchas personas cansadas después del trabajo de una larga semana, no tuvieron que cocinar y solo disfrutar de un
delicioso plato de pescado en la buena compañía de feligreses.
Algunos de nuestros grupos parroquiales también han sido una bendición al crear oportunidades únicas para la
oración y la reflexión. Nos ayudaron a centrarnos en manifestaciones contemporáneas de la cruz, tales como el tráfico
humano.
Conscientes de su llamado a ver y ser bendición para los demás, cincuenta parejas se reunieron para un día de
enriquecimiento matrimonial. Nuestro grupo multicultural de jóvenes ha estado sirviendo desayuno a los jornaleros de
Langley Park.
Tratando de ser una mayor fuente de bendición para los demás, veinte hombres que son parte del Ministerio de
Hombres, se reunieron para reflexionar en la Parábola del Hijo Pródigo y lo que significa en sus vidas. En el proceso,
muchos de ellos se sintieron bendecidos por la rara oportunidad para compartir y ser vulnerables en un espacio seguro.
Decenas de varias personas de nuestra parroquia han estado asistiendo por meses a cientos de grandes y
pequeños detalles que implican las complejidades de las liturgias de Semana Santa. Las decoraciones y la música han sido
seleccionadas cuidadosamente. Los horarios están listos para un sinnúmero de ensayos. El dedicado personal de Formación
de la Fe ha dado instrucciones finales a los catecúmenos y candidatos. Todas estas bendiciones se manifestarán
gloriosamente en la vigilia enriqueciéndonos a todos.
Por supuesto, también existe el ministerio de estacionamiento. A través de la gracia de Dios de alguna manera
estos siervos devotos mantienen el caos a raya a lo largo de todo.
Todas estas personas y así muchos más han dedicado una parte significante de su cuaresma para ser bendición a
nuestra comunidad. Han lavado los pies de muchas maneras. Gran parte de su duro trabajo y preparación sigue sin ser
reconocido por la mayoría de nosotros. Sin embargo, todos esos esfuerzos son sin duda vistos por Dios, la fuente de todas
nuestras bendiciones.
