When I started to learn how to read
Braille, I felt that it was cruel and an
unfair punishment to make me work
while all of the other children were
allowed to play. I did not understand
how I was so different from all of the
other children. I knew that I was
learning to connect to the rest of the
world in a different fashion but I was
very frustrated with the learning process. Braille seemed like a meaningless pattern of dots. In
spite of those distractions and frustrations, I
would not be able to
function in school and
in life today without the
aid of Braille.
As humans, we have a
natural longing for a
relationship with
God. However, we often find ourselves distracted with the noise
from the world we live in. We know
that having a relationship with God is
important, but when distractions
come our way – deadlines for jobs,
papers for school, and the increasing
amount of attention that social media seems to demand – it becomes
harder and harder to make time to
read our Bible and pray.
However, it is crucial that we get
~Lindsay Upschulte
our flesh under submission. The
Bible says in 2 Corinthians chapter
6 that we are called to be separate
from worldly living. When we are
living a separated life, we learn to
separate God’s voice from that of
the world, to put Him above all of
the pressure of worldly priorities. Matthew 5:16 says this: Let
your light so shine before men, that
they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in
heaven. Our purpose is
to allow God’s light to
shine through us so that
we can lead others to
Him. Just as I cannot
imagine going through
school without Braille,
all of us need the Lord,
whether or not we
choose to acknowledge
this in our lives.
In the beginning it
may be a struggle to make time for
the Lord. We must fight against the
distractions of the world that keep
us from our relationship with
Him. We must allow Him to do the
work in us. The reward will be
worth the battle when we realize
how much closer we’ve grown to
God. Then we can use our testimony and what we have learned to
lead others to Him.

Ladies’ Ministries Meeting will be held on
Saturday, August 9th at 10:00 am. Topics to be
discussed include Ladies’ Conference, a Bake Sale
and Yard Sale scheduled for September 27th, and
the annual Christmas Party. Breakfast will be
served and we will share some fun ideas. Please
come out and join us.
If you are planning on attending the Ladies’
Conference your registration fee of $35.00
is due by August 27th. The Conference is
called Fashioned For A Purpose and will be
held in Effingham on September 12-13.
We always have a
wonderful time of
worship and
fellowship.
I would like to extend a big Thank You! to everyone who donated linens, storage containers and
towels for the missionaries. Your donations are greatly appreciated by the missionaries who receive
them.
Also, it’s that time of year again as we begin collecting items for our annual Auction. We are looking to
receive donations of large ticket items. If you know of someone who has a car, boat or other large
item to donate, please let me know. I am able to provide them with a receipt for their donation for tax
purposes. Please help me spread the word. Thank you.
