In line with the University Quality Policy
which is “to comply with national and international
standards and strive to exceed stakeholders’
expectations” a Stakeholders’ Satisfaction Survey is
conducted annually by the whole JBLFMU system
to gather feedback from tie-up shipping companies
and manning agencies on the performance of our
graduates and from other stakeholders composed of
the faculty and staff, students, and alumni of all units
of the university as well as from the parents on their
evaluation of the performance of the three units in
terms of the many forms of services that it offers.
November 21-26, 2011 was a week fully-packed
with lived experiences for the university’s Research
Team who walked on foot and dared the busy streets
of Manila as they traversed blocks and passed
through strict security protocols to be allowed
access to big bosses of the shipping companies and
manning agencies to conduct the annual survey on
stakeholders’ satisfaction.
The university Research Team went under
the leadership of Dr. Eda C. Ticao, Director for

t cannot be denied that
JBLCF-Bacolod has gone
a long way when researches and
presentations are concerned. The
paper presentations of some of
our active faculty in regional and
international conferences are living
proofs to this. The administration
therefore should be credited for
the strong motivation and support
given to those who wanted to have
a feel of what research is all about
and those who have developed the
passion for research and would like
to go farther.
Just recently, selected faculty
members were sent to present their
papers in Research Colloquium

More recently, the school
sent Dr. Araceli C. Doromal, the
Unit Academic Coordinator, to the
11th Annual SEAAIR Conference
which was held last November
2-4, 2011 at Chang Mai, Thailand.
Researchers from all over the
world joined the conference as
they celebrated with the theme
“University Social Responsibility:
Pathways
to
Excellence.”
According to AteayShewyun,
President of SEAAIR, the main
objective of the conference was
to expand academic and cultural
learning through collaborative
efforts via Institutional Research.
Moreover, the conference aimed
to bring together policy-makers,
academicians,
researchers,
practitioners, and managers in
higher education institutions from
not only the Southeast Asian region
but also from other sister chapters
and regions. At the conference,
our Unit Academic Coordinator,
Dr. Araceli C. Doromal, presented
two (2) of her papers entitled:
“Mangrove throughout the Years:
Its Narrative Developmentand
Social Relevance” and “Importance

Panel Members, Research Directors or Coordinators and Tertiary
Faculty of private and public Colleges, States and Universities in the
whole Region VI. It was ideally an opportunity for each participant to
learn the multidisciplinary collaborative approach in research. Five
(5) participants were sent by JBLCF-Bacolod namely: Violeta A. Neri
from the Business Department, and Mrs. Ruby D. Causing, Mrs.
Juliet S. Trujillo, Miss Cindy P. Pretta, and Engr. Ritchie J. Navarro
from the Maritime Department. From this 3-day seminar-workshop,
the participants were able to appreciate the importance of the
culture of research in the context of the National Higher Education
Research Agenda 2 (NHERA-2). The seminar-workshop was done
in a fast-tracked mode where the participants’ laptops were a great
help during the group activities. John B. Lacson participants,
Research coordinators from Colegio de la Purisima College, Roxas
City, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College of Talisay and one
University from Iloilo were in one group and were tasked to use the
multidisciplinary approach in developing a research proposal on an

BUSINESS INSTRUCTORS WITH RC AND CES OFFICER ATTEND A REGIONAL
COURSE ON RESEARCH MANAGEMENT
Mr. Francisco Cezar L. Catague and Mr. Juancho S. Opao, both instructors of
the Business Department attended a Regional Course on Research Management
with focus on Government Protocols together with the Unit Research Coordinator,
Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo and Community Extension Officer, Mr. Joemil G. Galve.
The course was held in La Consolacion College-Main Campus on August
5-6, 2011 with the objective of enhancing the participants’ awareness of some
government protocols governing Research-related undertakings that require
permits and consent of the locality from which research data are to be gathered.
Examples of such governance is the Indigenous People Right Act (RA 8371)
which requires the conduct of Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) if a study
concerns with or is within the territory of a group of indigenous people (IP) and
the RA 9147 also known as the “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection
Act” which allows any individual or entity to engage in noncommercial, scientific,
or educational undertaking to collect wildlife with a Gratuitous Permit coming
from different government agencies depending on the species under study. Other
objectives of the course were for the participants to be familiar with the different
government requirements necessary in the implementation of varied types of
research ; to identify the types of research that needs government permits; to point
out which government office is responsible in releasing permits to a particular
type of research; to gain tips from experienced research managers on how to
secure documents needed to acquire permits; and to get a chance to confer with
representatives from concerned permit-releasing government agencies. The
course was another new area of information gained by the participants who were
sent by the school. We look forward to attending more trainings and taking up
more courses to enhance our knowledge of Research.

JBLCF-BACOLOD FACULTY AND STAFF RESEARCH COMMITTEE JOINS IN
THE SHORELINE CLEAN-UP AND MANGROVE PLANTING ACTIVITY
To pursue its vision of
being an advocate in addressing
environmental and community
concerns, the Faculty and Staff
Research Committee members
of JBLCF-Bacolod spearheaded
by their very supportive and
hardworking Research Coordinator
Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo had
humbly shown their innate social
responsibility by actively joining
the annual Shoreline Clean-up and
Mangrove Planting activity. This
year’s Shoreline Clean-Up was
held last September 30, 2011 along
the shorelines of Crossing 8, Brgy.
Tangub, Bacolod City. This activity
was also supported by the people
from the community of Purok
Crossing 8, student organizations,
other members of the faculty and
staff, Department Heads, the very
active administrator Capt. Luis
G. Evidente and members of the
DENR who had distributed the
supplies of mangrove seedlings.
The shoreline clean-up was a big
challenge to everyone, considering
the vast unimaginable littered
garbage all over the shore and
seaside. In the midst of the filth
and stench of the carelessly thrown

the area, everyone was determined
to do their share to keep up with
the school’s social responsibility
through actual involvement for the
goal of preserving the environment.
Moreover, the mangrove planting
was an inspiration to everyone
knowing that the seedlings they
have planted will emerge as a
symbol of life for the marine
environment in the future to come.
