A total of 35 research outputs have been completed
for SY 2010-2011. For the Maritime Department, 40
faculty members were able to collaborate with their
co-authors in coming up with their own research
outputs. Among these 40 authors, 12 were able to
complete 2 to 3 researches to make up for their gaps in
the previous cycles. In the Business Department, there
were 7 faculty authors while there were 9 members
of the administrative/non-teaching staff who have also
been involved in research. These authors have been
awarded their certificates of completion and have
received cash incentives as a form of reward for a job
well done. The following is the list of these outputs
whose copies are available at the Research Office. It
has been a very productive year for the JBLCF-Bacolod
community in the area of research. Let us continue with
the tradition as we manifest through our involvement
our deeply ingrained research culture. / ete

held its 1st International Conference and 19th Annual
Assembly last May 24-27, 2011 at Centro Escolar
University, Manila with the theme “Global Response
to Sustainability through Research”. The gathering of
different research enthusiasts from different parts of the
country and the world was aimed to provide a venue
for researchers to interact with their fellow researchers
and discuss the concept and impact of climate change,
environmental management, resources management,
green living and wellness, and biotechnology on
human life and other living organisms. PSERE has 33
institutional members which include JBLCF-Bacolod.
our Unit Academic Coordinator. Her paper entitled
“Mangrove throughout the Years: Its Narrative
Development and Social Relevance” with Mr. Joemil
G. Galve (CES Officer) as her co-author, described
the chronological development of the mangrove
reforestation in the coastal area and intertidal area of
the institution’s adopted barangay, Purok Seaside,
Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City. The mangrove planting was
initiated by the faculty members, administrative staff,
students and parents’ association of JBLCF-Bacolod.
The paper also highlighted the social relevance of the
project to the residents of the said locality. Dr. Araceli

In-House Research Review last July 1, 2011.
The papers presented were 10 among the 16
research outputs which were declared over
and above the requirement for SY 2010-2011.
This event was scheduled as the first to be
held in the system since JBLCF-Bacolod was
the first among the three units to submit the
requirements for the said activity.

ccording to Benjamin Disraeli, “The
secret of success in life is for man to
be ready for his opportunity when it comes.”
An opportunity has opened its doors to the
faculty and staff of John B. Lacson Colleges
Foundation-Bacolod to present their papers to
The Research Committee has proven
that the support given to them by the school
for upgrading was not put into waste. An
echo-seminar was held last May 31, 2011
at the JBLCF-Bacolod Conference Room.
The Research Committee was delighted
with the presence of Capt. Luis G. Evidente,
school administrator, Dr. Araceli C. Doromal,
Academic Coordinator, and Dr. Sylvino V.
Tupas, Unit QA Manager who listened to
the presentations and added their inputs in
maximizing the research potentials of the
faculty and staff.
Different topics were shared by the
committee as a refresher and motivation to
all. The activity was started with the topic
“The Nature of Education and Educational
Studies” presented by Ms. Jarebeth M.
Bangoy. This was followed by Ms. Juliet
Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research
Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod welcomed
all the participants, presenters and most of
all the panel of evaluators while at the same
time thanking the Research Committee
members in helping her materialize the event.
In her speech, she quoted what Capt. Luis
G. Evidente had wished for the event, that
since it is the first to be held in the system
and that since research is a serious matter,
everyone has to make everything possible to
make the activity lively and close to perfection
so it could serve as a benchmark for all the
other research activities which are yet to
come. Dr. Sylvino V. Tupas, QA Manager, in
his message expressed his congratulations
S. Trujillo who, in behalf of Ms. Ruby D.
Causing, demonstrated the topic on “Current
Trends and Issues on Research. Capt.
Luis G. Evidente mentioned that the issue
on environment must be taken seriously
in preparation for the school’s application
for ISO 1400. A brief yet comprehensive
explanation on “Research in Education:
Issues, Paradigms, and Processes” was
conducted by Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo,
Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod,
who also encouraged the committee to
pursue and to be updated on the trends in
research. “An Impact Assessment of Waste
Management Program of Selected HEIs
in the Bicol Region” echoed by Engr. Liza
E. Martinez inspired the members of the
committee to conduct studies which focus on
the environmental awareness of our school.
DR. ARACELI C. DOROMAL
to the faculty and staff of JBLCF-Bacolod for
facing the challenge and overcoming it with
flying colors. Moreover, Dr. Eda C. Ticao,
the system Research Director also extended
her congratulations to the unit for having
achieved something beyond the minimum
requirement as far as research is concerned.
She congratulated personally Dr. Emeliza
T. Estimo for this achievement. In addition,
she stressed on the recommendations of the
Board of Trustees that in order to maintain this
status, the faculty and staff should help one
another to come up with research outputs and
to allow these outputs to undergo research
review. She emphasized that the papers will
be given candid suggestions to improve or to
enhance their quality and not to discourage
the writers.
The following is the list of presenters,

eaching, research, and extension are the three basic academic
activities of the JBLCF- Bacolod. Its survival and growth
depend to a large extent upon the constant generation and spread of new
knowledge through research. Without research to validate its quality of
services, the institution could turn into a “teaching mill” whose output
will be eventually deemed sterile and incapable of guiding the institution
and society as well. However, the success of any institution of research
depends on the willingness and dedication of its constituents in realizing
its goals.
Our institution’s Research Committee functions under the
leadership of Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, JBLCF- Bacolod Research Coordinator
who earned her Doctor of Philosophy major in Applied Linguistics at
the University of Saint La Salle- Bacolod. Planning with her are the very
supportive chairperson and vice-chairperson of the committee, Mrs.
Ruby D. Causing and Mrs. Cynthia U. Buga-ay. Mrs. Causing is presently
pursuing her dissertation for Doctor of Philosophy major in Educational
Management at West Negros University and Mrs. Buga-ay is a graduate
of Master of Arts in Education Major in Reading, Language and Literature
at Philippine Normal University. The chairmanship and teamwork of both
ladies have marked a positive impression during the last PACUCOA
Accreditation.
The faculty research committee consists of 23 members coming
from different departments of the institution. They provide assistance
in strengthening and consolidating the research activities in their
respective areas of concern. In the Deck Department, the professional
help of the following deck instructors is indispensable. This team is
composed of C/M Cleto B. Almajo, Program Head for deck instructors
in the Management Level who earned his Master of Science in Maritime
Education at JBLFMU; 3/M Cezar F. Chin, 3/M Jovito S. Geroso, C/M
Jonathan P. Talaban, 2/M Hazel J. Sabordo, and 2/M Noel M. Flores,
all full-time faculty in the Maritime Department and holders of the
degree Master of Science in Maritime Education from John B. Lacson
Foundation Maritime University. In the Engine Department, the members
are 2/E Rene C. Tubongbanua and 3/E Joselito Vicente G. Tueres who
are both graduates of Master of Science in Maritime Education from the
same university.
