The common council, consisting of the mayor and six alderpersons representing the city's six wards meets the second and fourth Mondays of every month at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 328 N. Main St. City hall office hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Police: Chief leads six full-time personnel, providing 24-hour protection. Fire: Chief heads a volunteer department. Paged out by 911 service on call 24 hours a day. Three pumper trucks, two tankers, a snorkel truck and equipment truck including a Jaws of Life and carbon monoxide detector. Rescue: volunteers provide coverage to city and towns of Seymour and Osborn. Two rescue units equipped with defibrillators. CPR available to public. To volunteer for fire or rescue call 833-2209.
