Cindy Babyn’s Tiny Home Design
Design Inspirations
Tiny Living “Loft” (Delta, BC)
I like the ceiling shape
but I want the ceiling white.
I love the white walls (but I would prefer wider wood).
I like the white window trim, white cupboards with silver
cupboard hardware
I would like to have lighter floors, butcher block, and
staircase cupboard
My artwork will provide colour pop.
I would really like to have stairs going up to the bedroom loft
instead of a ladder (I can use a ladder to the storage loft).
Preferably I would like most of the height of my top stair to
be a full-height closet with a closed door to store dresses and
some longer trench coats, etc.
This photo inspired me to ensure that I create a visual art & writing room,
though I want it to be the entire width of the tiny house 8’6” and 6 feet in
length.
Paint fumes are an issue. it needs a closed door, and it needs ventilation, like a
window.
Perhaps the walls in the art room can unpainted cedar.
I don’t like the ceiling beams in this photo (design).

Roof inspiration
I like these wide panels roof.
I like that it’s black.
Siding Inspiration
I like this charred cedar siding. I like that it’s
a pretty even black colour throughout.
Perhaps we could achieve it with wood
stain.
I think the white with the black gives it a
nice modern look.
Note the
white
underhang,
which I’d
like to have

Note: All windows should have screens and white vinyl brickmould and white hardware, Low-E glass
(repels UV rays, lets heat in during winter - Jeldwen), and better-vue insect screen (Jeldwen)
Storage loft window – same width as front doors

Front door right
Not sure about the screens for the front
door. Maybe behind?
Window – back of house
Maybe a back bedroom loft window
(to discuss – re cubbies)

(Back door got moved to the side because of the size of the propane tank and water
heater)

STAINS & PAINTS
HD: CIL Ebony exterior stain on cedar house
 HD: Front porch stain: CIL Ebony exterior

I really would like it to look black, not faded black –
I’d like it to look like the black in my inspiration
photos above, not like black-faded or blackdistressed like this

Exterior front overhang (storage loft over front
porch): under wood of overhang painted
white to match windows & doors
Interior white paint: please use the same
glossy white you used for the Loft photos
Ceiling
Walls lofts, downstairs
Bathroom
Sliding doors for bathroom/art room
Please ensure the window blinds match the
white so the blinds don’t look off-white


Exterior window trim – white: can we just
use the Jeldwen brickmould instead of
additional white-painted trim? (to discuss)
Kitchen counter, floor, and storage
staircase – I’d like these to be the same
stain, and I’d like to go lighter now but it
depends on how well I can match these 3
design detail stains. I had been thinking of
going an ‘espresso’ stain, but because the
exterior is black and the front porch will be
black this blonde flooring will look much
better when the doors are open.
I would like to be given a bit of extra
bathroom white and living room white paint
for touch ups.

Art table (the table you have on your web site), with laptop lip storage
Storage staircase
Bedroom loft cubbies – I need your advice: should this be at the back? I can’t figure out whether my bed
should be straight centre at the back wall. Is that advisable to configure it like that to improve head
room (rather than having the bed on the side)?
Thin square slats under sleeping futon (to promote some airflow and avoid mold)
Porch (is there another ‘legs’ option, other than those metal legs on the Napa? Like, can it be in wood?
Does it fold up/tie up like this porch at 2 minutes, 30 seconds?
Storage loft – low privacy wall (and to protect storage items from falling down into the living room while
driving the house)
1 shelf over bathroom washer/dryer unit to store Laundry Detergent
Window shutter doors (art room window) – for protection from stones during travel (trailer hitch side)
Simple steps, step-up to art room door

Staircase to storage loft, instead of ladder
If possible, I’d like stairs like these above to
the storage loft, instead of a ladder, though
maybe slightly wider, and on the right side. I
like the holding ledge they’ve come up with
too – interesting.
I don’t know how they support weight very
well…?
If that’s not possible, I prefer to have a ladder
like this one on the left. I hate traditional
ladders.
