Our yearly Schwingfest held June 16th, was a huge success, with wrestlers traveling from Ripon, Buckeye,AZ and
as far as Corvallis, OR. The large crowd enjoyed the wrestling and all the festivities. Thanks to all the volunteers who
helped make the Schwingfest so successful.
The Prime Rib dinner prepared by California Catering was a hit. Evening entertainment was provided by Mal
Jaeger & The Edelweiss Band and was enjoyed by all.

On Wed., August 1st the SD Swiss Club held their annual Swiss Independence Day celebration. We had our
traditional games of water balloon toss, tug-o-war, two legged and three legged races. Everyone won something for their participation. Especially exciting this year was the full moon we all enjoyed as our President, Tony
Odermatt, ignited the LARGE bonfire and our children and adults alike circled the fire with their lampions illuminated by the moonlight. A special thanks to Gordon Kohl who assisted those walking by playing traditional Swiss
songs. It was a real treat to hear everyone gather around him as he played songs that everyone was able to
sing along with. A special thanks to Fred and Margie Burri and their family for joining us at this special
event. Fred sang Happy Birthday to Tony Odermatt as it is also our President’s birthday. Thank you all for joining
us and making this such a special evening – I can think of no better way than to spend August 1st at the
San Diego County Swiss Club.

We are looking for a caring and compassionate
person to take over the Sunshine Club You would be
notified when a member is sick, in the hospital or has
passed away. The volunteer would be notified of the
“event” and ensure that a card and flowers/plant are delivered to
the person. Our previous volunteers were a couple – Walter and
Marianne Egger – who did a fantastic job for many years. Please

The Swiss Rifle Team has a Swiss Military
Karabiener and ammunition waiting for you.
Come join us. We shoot every 2nd Saturday of
the month from 9am to 11am. On Sat. Sept.
8th we conducted our Einzel Wettschiessen. We had 8
shooters competing and 7 of them scored high enough to
receive a Medal. Good shooting. Doug Baucom had the
highest score with 135 points. If you are interested in joining

WALTER BUCHMANN—Nov. 11, 1919-June 25, 2012.
Walter, born in Switzerland, came to the U.S. in 1949,
master pastry chef and restauranteur. Passed away
at age 92 of leukemia. Survived by his loving wife
Hilde, daughter Arlene, family and many friends.
Memorials may be given to: San Diego Ronald

GERDA MARES—February 14,1914—September 20, 2012
Gerda from Chula Vista, was a long time Swiss Club
member and a very active volunteer in the community.
She will be missed by all.
