Annual High-E7-9 23rd Fishin-Sea Photos 13 Calender of Events E ven though the sun wasn't shining, we had another day in paradise for the High-E-Fishin-Sea XXIII event. The Palm Beach Air Conditioning Contractors Association's 23nd annual Kingfish, Wahoo, Dolphin Tournament, was held at the Riviera Beach Marina on June 28th. Special thanks to the wonderful TIKI Waterway Grill for hosting and catering a successful event. The Tournament was a great deal of fun for those who attended! Eighteen boats participated, with over 80 fishermen. More than $2,000.00 was raised for the Maurice J. Jacobson Scholarship Fund, exceeding our expectations. We are delighted and these earnings will go directly for scholarships to be awarded this year. PBACCA President -President- Patrick Mesmer, Past President Cliff Griffith Vice President Leo Breault Directors, Steve Rimel, Daryl Sholar and Rhonda Beeler of FACAA served as weigh masters for the tournament this year. Special Thanks to Jeff Schlichenmeyer with Today's- A/C news and Peter Montana with HVAC Insider and Trish Mesmer for the great photos. The Winners of the 23nd High-E-Fishin-Sea Tournament First Prize of $1000 was awarded to Ibrahim Chalhoub of Cedars Electro Mechanical, with his catch of a 23.08 lb. Kingfish. Second Prize of $750 was awarded to Ken Goodrich of Gusse Air, with his catch of a 19.09 Dolphin. Third Prize of $500 was awarded to Judi Smimo of WL Hastey Air, with her catch of a 16.56 lb. King. Calcutta Prize of $640 went to Ibrahim Chalhoub of Cedars Electro Mechanical; with his catch of 23.08 lb. Kingfish. We held the 23rd Annual PBACCA fishing tournament this weekend, and boy,what a great time it was! The weather was great, and many fish were caught. Afterwards, we all shared much great food and laughs at the awards banquet. This was the last event to be held at old Newcomb Hall, so it was historic as well! I would like to thank all of our sponsors who provided the many prizes, as well as all the board members who came out to help. Sue Hagenbaumer won $500.00 in the Trifecta raffle, and then promptly donated it to Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. That was truly selfless- Thanks Sue! We Talked about Maury Jacobson, who is currently in hospice care at his home. Maury has been involved in our trade his whole life, and is responsible for the Maury Jacobson Scholarship Fund that we give out to students in our trade every year. I would like to thank him for all of his contributions throughout the years. I am one of the beneficiaries of this scholarship fund. Thanks Maury! Don’t for get to donate to The Forgotten Soldiers Outreach Program! If we collect enough money for this great cause, Mayor Dave Stewart with shave his head and beard for all of us to see! He was an Icon to our industry for over 60 years with 40 of those years in South Florida. Maury will be remembered by most of us who loved him as a caring man who would do anything to help those in need. All of us in our industry will forever be better because of his input and involvement. His service to us and all of America started when he was a staff Sargent under George Patton in World War II. He was highly involved in the Nuremberg war trails. Upon his return to the United States he operated an air conditioning contracting firm in the Washington D.C. area. In the early 1970's Maury attended an ACCA convention in Orlando and met many contractors from the South Florida area. He and his wife Fran visited South Florida and fell in love with this area. They purchased a condo in South Palm Beach. Maury lived there till his passing. Maury had such dedication for teaching and education in our industry that The Palm Beach air conditioning contractors association established The Maury Jacobson Scholarship Fund. Many have received college training and degrees because of this fund. I feel honored that I was able to spend many evenings with Maury in his last 2 weeks of his life. I had known him for over 40 years but had never known of his first 50 years of life. He was an amazing man that impacted many people lives- not just those in the A/C industry. Maury is survived by two daughters, Grandchildren and many nieces & nephews who reside in Israel. The E.P.A. has established a Mandatory Technician Certification Program. Technicians are required to become certified under the mandatory program.
