Thank you to all of the PTO volunteers who made the Scholastic Book Fair such a success! Karen Preisendorf, Rachel Ponzoli, Bennet Barrios, Jan Hanberry, Lana Vespo and Olga Barnes. A special thank you to PTO Treasurer, Jen Vankirk and Volunteer Coordinator, Regina McClimond. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP Yearbooks Yearbooks for the 2016-2017 school year will be on sale using the link on Ed-line or at www.yearbooksforever.com this summer and throughout the year. They will also be on sale in school once the students return. • Beginning July 3 – August 14 for the extremely discounted rate of $30.00 - ONLINE ONLY!!!!!! • August 15 – October 16 the price will increase to $35.00. • October 17 – December 31 the price will increase to $40.00. • January 1 – April 9 the cost will become $45.00. After April 9, the yearbooks will not be on sale in school or online until the yearbooks have been distributed to the students that preordered one. The day following the yearbook distribution, students who did not preorder one will be able to purchase a yearbook for $50.00 cash or check payable to IMS and receive their yearbook at the time of the purchase. The benefit to ordering the books online is that there are many options you may add such as having your name stamped (engraved) on the front cover, adding an iTag (which allows you to affix a tag with your name printed on it to any part of your yearbook) and many other great options that are worth looking in to. Sales will also be taking place in school once the students return, however, the great options that are offered online are not offered in school. The price changes apply to in school sales and online sales. Reminders Deliveries: At IMS, we do not allow the delivery of miscellaneous items (i.e. lunches, homework, money, ect.) forgotten at home. This policy will lay the foundation as we begin to work together to help our children develop the sense of responsibility and become a responsible citizen. This will also assist home and school routines. There will be an amnesty period for everyone to become aware and have an understanding of this expectation. We will implement this policy starting September 1, 2016. It is our recommendation that you begin the first day of school preparing your student for this expectation. We recognize how difficult it is to let our children encounter difficult situations. However, if we work together to allow our children to handle “leaving something needed at home” we are strengthening not only character but building their self-worth. Student ID’s and Dress Code: Please see enclosed information regarding ID’s/Dress Code and our Bell Schedule. In an effort to reduce the amount of students who do not wear their Student ID’S, please check your student each morning to be sure they have their Student ID. A great suggestion is that the student attach it each night to their back pack. Also, equally important is to make sure they are in IMS dress code and please remember that their Student ID and lanyard is a part of the required dress code. Please refer to the student agenda at the start of the school year for more detailed information. IMS Student Government I would like to acknowledge the IMS student government council for doing a great job in supporting SOAR all year, The PBSO Unified Food drive, The Great Kindness Challenge, The United Schools Foundation, and creating a large thank you poster for the Copy Cats’ efforts. The council also went on a field trip to Dwyer HS to visit SGA (Student Government) to observe many of the activities included at the high school level. The members include: • 8th grade: President- Cressa Bronson, Vice President – Emily Cronin, Secretary – Emma Cavendish, Treasurer- Quinn Jacobs, Historian – Emily Evans, Parliamentarian- Alicia Kaufmann and honorary member- Nicole DiCola. • 7th grade: President-Ryan Sheehan, Vice President -Nick George • 6th grade: President- Devyn Koerner, Vice President- Drake Moretto The students worked with a great deal of commitment. I am proud of our council and wish them continued success in all they pursue. All of my best, your council leader, Mrs Igo. These students—along with a group of Palm Beach County elementary, middle, and high schools students—were honored at an award ceremony held on Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Hagen Ranch Library in Delray Beach. Congratulations again, students, on your successful publishing efforts! IMS Students Published in Palm Beach County Middle School Poetry Competition Publication Congratulations to the following IMS students who were selected into the 2016 Palm Beach County Middle School Poetry Competition publication. • Ashley Brown, Brandon Embleton, Saanvi Kodiganti, Kayleigh McGovern, Christian Torres, Jeanna Evans, Jordan Fields, Natalia Graulau, Shanna Holloway, Ava Jensen, Bailey Nathan, Justin Nowakowski, Gigi Perez, Aaron Dechert, Jack Earle, Olivia Leith, Mia Nuttle, Zander Pfeifler, Ella Adams, Charlie Dailey, Donnie Hires, Emma Applegate, Kaley Cubillas, Isabelle Delahunty, Sydney Shaffer, and Emilee Foulk This is the sixth year in which the competition has been hosted by Laura Costello of Palm Springs Middle School. The competition is funded by a grant from the Love4Learing foundation, with funding from the latest musical artist Prince. IMS is extremely proud of these published poets! Pre-Business IT Academy Students Experience Job Interviews Each year, Pre-Business IT Academy students from Ms. George’s Computing for College and Careers course learn the important soft skills needed for employment including preparing applications, resume’s and interview skills. On May 24, 2016, students in this high school credit class interviewed with the following local businesses: Roger Dean Stadium, Cobb Theatres Downtown 16, Pinnacle Kids and Velocity Community Credit Union. These businesses sent up to three supervisors to interview several students for positions normally acquired by students their age. Each student, dressed in professional business attire, participated in two to four interviews with different companies for various job positions. Students researched each company and job position, prepared questions for interviewers, and created personal resumes for each interview and business. In the past, several of Ms. George’s students were offered positions during these “mock” interviews! Although obtaining a job is not the goal of this lesson, it is a great indicator that our business students are prepared and ready to enter the workforce. These interviews provide the school to work connections that students need and enjoy. We are grateful to these local businesses and their management team for providing our students with this exceptional experience. Please support these local businesses to help us show our appreciation for investing in our IMS students’ futures.
