2013 Awards of Excellence Winners
Winning Entries Represent the Best in Barbecue

OF BARBECUE
The National Barbecue Association has announced the winners of the 2013 NBBQA Awards of Excellence. The
annual competition recognizes the very best barbecue products in a number of industry categories.
The winning entries were announced on February 21 during the Awards of Excellence ceremony at the
2013 NBBQA National Conference in Mobile, Alabama.
Smoky Jon’s #1 BBQ in Madison, Wisconsin led the gold medal count with four, including the top spot for Best Hot
Sauce with their Sweet Fire Table Sauce. The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint in Ocean Springs, Mississippi received the most
awards, placing in a whopping 14 categories. That included a gold medal in one of the most competitive categories—
Tomato Mild Barbecue Sauce —for their Down Home Southern Shed Spred. The largest category was All Purpose Rub,
where Texas 1 Gourmet Seasoning from LA Spice House fended off nearly 100 competitors to win gold. National barbecue chain Famous Dave’s of America also
fared well, placing in 9 categories.
