THIS RAYA
Lemang is a special dish during the raya celebration which can
be a tedious preparation process. The traditional method requires
lemang to be cooked in bamboo sticks for at least 4 hours.
It starts off with filling hollowed bamboos with glutinous rice
wrapped in banana leaf. Then the mixture of thick creamy
coconut milk and salt is poured in. These bamboo sticks are
cooked slowly by an open fire place with coals and firewood. The
cooking bit requires the lemang to be observed closely and that
they are constantly turned to ensure it is evenly cooked.
End product of the lemang preparation is a fragrantful and soft
rice. Lemang is usually eaten with a chicken, beef or mutton
meat in thick curry with flavorful spices.
These days, in city living setting, modern methods of cooking
lemang is commonly practiced. Instead of cooking by the fire,
filled bamboo sticks are dipped in a huge pot of boiling water for
about under an hour. But of course, nothing beats the taste of
traditionally cooked lemang as the modern style of cooking lacks
fragrance and tends to be mushy.

Was Hajaba's latest range of scarfs launched during a
high tea fashion show and hijab styling workshop.
During the event, Alamanda Fashion VIP members hung
out with local celebrities of Yatt, Nisa Kay and Diana
Amir. A few highlights for the included lucky draw,
special performance by Mawi, best dressed Muslimah
contest with a chance to win RM1,000 worth of Hajaba
sponsored prizes and goodie bags for every attendee
worth RM150.00.
