Greetings,
Praise God who is so compassionate. When Jesus shows
compassion it is coming from
the very depth of his being. It is
coming from his guts. From His
guts, He reached out to a widow

who lost her son. Compassion
is more than a feeling. It is a lived reality.
Every part of his being reached out to touch the
coffin of the dead son and bring him to life.
Are you a compassionate person? Do you put
others first? We live in a “me, myself and I”
world but true compassion puts another person
above his/her own wishes and desires.
Do you truly listen to the needs of others? People like to speak first and listen second but a
compassionate person truly listens and then responds.
Jesus went toward the dead body. This was considered a very unclean act. It was not very favorable in the eyes of the people. Compassion does
not worry about whether something is favorable
or not. Are you willing to go beyond your comfort zone?
Do you forgive easily? Compassion forgives.
“Father forgive them for they do not know what
they are doing.”

St. Anthony Music Ministry Needs Your
Help! We are trying to grow our music ministries and can’t do it without you. The time commitment is a 1.5 hour rehearsal during the week,
and an hour or ½ hour before mass to set up.
5PM Vigil & 11AM
Instrumentalists: All are welcome with a special need for a guitarist, bassist, and drummer.
Proficiency in an instrument with good sight
reading or improvisational skills required.
Singers: Looking for singers in all vocal ranges.
Experience in singing in parts, and or good sight
readings/improvisational skills required.
Audio Mixer: Someone with an ear for music or
a desire to learn. Experience in audio mixing/engineering is a plus. The volunteer will operate the mixing board with an iPad during mass.
(There will be some up front training but no
weekly rehearsal.)
7AM
Cantor: Looking for singers with a strong singing voice to lead all the music at mass. Being a
good sight reader and having a basic liturgical
knowledge is a plus but not required. An audition
is required. (No weekly rehearsal)
8:30AM
Singers: We want to build our choir. If you enjoy singing, this is the place for you. Experience
singing in 4-part harmony is a plus but not required. All vocal ranges welcome, with a special
need for Sopranos.
Cantor: Looking for singers with a strong singing voice to lead the Psalm and announce songs.
Being a good sight reader and having a basic liturgical knowledge is a plus but not required. An
audition is required. (Membership in the choir is
required)

Preparing for the Sacraments
at St. Anthony
Our parish prepares students using the following
components:
1. Regular Sunday mass attendance
2. Foundational Catechesis through Sunday
Faith Formation or Catholic School.
3. At home parent/child sacrament book completion.
4. Parish support through parent meetings &
family retreats.
Parents are encouraged to enroll children as 1st
graders. Preparation for sacraments begins in the
2nd/3rd grade by enrolling in foundational catechesis. For 4th graders and older, preparation
begins in year two of foundational catechesis.

PARISH SCHOOL
No slowing down within the classrooms as the last day of
school approaches. This past week, preschool held their
Donuts with Dads event and their annual Field Day.
Know what a math geoboard is? Preschoolers created their
own geoboards.
In 5th grade science, students completed their unit on the
human circulatory, respiratory, digestive, nervous, muscular and skeletal systems. In literature, they finished their
novel study of Where the Red Fern Grows.
As a wrap up to their year in physical science, 8th grade
students completed a two day lab on the law of conservation of mass as they continue their study of the basic principles of chemistry.
Eighth grade students are also studying the Carmelite martyrs of Compiegne who lived during the French Revolution.
This group of nuns died for their faith during the Reign of
Terror. If you are interested in learning more about our
curriculum or enrollment, please feel free to give us a call.

PASTORAL COUNCIL & COMMISSION REPORTS

“bonus” every 3 months? Last quarter 57 families had registered their rewards card so our local St. Vincent de Paul received a “bonus” check of
$260! You can support this effort by registering your Fred Meyer Rewards Card at www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards; search for St
Vincent de Paul-Tigard, or by using our non-profit number 86606. If you
have already designated our local St. Vincent De Paul to receive this bonus
gift then you should renew your request as your designation automatically

an easy way to support our local St Vincent de Paul
Minutes of Life, Justice & Peace Meeting for May 12, 2016
Community Alliance of Tenants Workshop: The event took place Saturday, April 30 in St. Francis
Hall. We agreed to make this an annual event. About 20 people attended. One tenant was able to get help
with a mold issue because of the workshop.
Interfaith Power & Light Postcards: Half sheets asking for senators to back the Green Climate fund
were provided on a table in the side hall across from the nursery. A handful of parishioners participated
Next year we plan to provide postcards and advertise the drive in conjunction with Earth Day in the
spring.
2016 Offering of Letters: A few letters were written during the first two weekends. Several parishioners have taken the information home and will return a letter to the gathering space or the parish office.
All letters will be delivered to the archdiocesan office by June 1. Next year we will plan this as an event
with a video presentation.
Promoting vegetable gardens in apartment settings: We would like to facilitate a program to
teach apartment tenants techniques to grow gardens in pots in small outdoor spaces.
Care for our Home, with Mercy: Living Simply So That Other May Simply Live: Br. Cyril
Drnjevic will be conducting this retreat at the Pastoral Center at 10 a.m. on June 11. Register by June 2 as
space is limited.
Life, Justice & Peace Budget: Gerlinde submitted our budget. Sue handed out a worksheet that we
can modify as needed. It included Empty Bowl, Earth Day postcards, Tenants Workshop, Offering of Letters, a Peace Mass and misc. speakers and workshops. Also included in the LJP budget are respect life
activities, the severe weather shelter and ESL.
“Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” USCCB 2015: We obtained pamphlets based on
this document from the Archdiocese. They will be distributed prior to the primary and general elections.

Every 2 seconds someone in the US needs blood
More than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day
The average blood red sell transfusion is about 3 pints
A single car accident victim can require as many as 100
pints of blood
Four types of products can be derived from blood, red cells,
platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate. Typically 2 or 3 of
these products are produced from 1 pint of blood; hence each
donation can save up to 3 lives.

The Eucharist (Part II)
The renewed union we have with God through the
sacrament of Reconciliation is consummated in the
Eucharist. The Eucharist unites our soul with Jesus
making us one. Christ then permanently lives in our
soul as our friend. With the reception of each Communion we become more familiar with Jesus, which
allows our trust in Him to grow. The Eucharist was
Sr. Faustina's motive for trust giving her strength in
every situation of her life. The gifts she received from
the Eucharist were proportionate to her preparation
for its reception. This preparation always consisted of
love accompanied by humility, respect for, and trust
in the Eucharist. Sometimes this love was a silent
conversation with Jesus. The Eucharist has the power
to make us divine. Sr. Faustina understood this
power and wrote,“...transform me into Yourself. Divine me that my deeds may be pleasing to You. May
this be accomplished by the power of the Holy Communion which I receive daily”. St. Augustine expressed this same process, “You will not change Me
into yourself, …, but you will be changed into Me”.
Jesus told Sr. Faustina, “… although there appears to
be no trace of life in Me, in reality
it is present in its fullness in each
and every Host. But for Me to be
able to act upon a soul, the soul
must have faith”.

Él se acercó a una viuda que perdió a su
hijo. La compasión es más que un
sentimiento. Es una realidad vivida.
Cada parte de su ser llegó a tocar el ataúd
del difunto hijo y lo trajo a la vida.
Es usted una persona compasiva? pone
primero a los demás? Vivimos en un "yo,
yo y yo" mundo, pero la verdadera
compasión pone a otra persona por encima
de su / sus propios deseos y deseos.
Es lo que realmente escucha a las
necesidades de los demás? La gente le
gusta hablar en primer lugar y escuchar
segundo, pero una persona compasiva
verdaderamente escucha y responde.
Jesús fue hacia el cadáver. Esto fue
considerado un acto muy sucio. No fue
muy favorable a los ojos de las personas.
La compasión no se preocupa de si algo es
favorable o no. ¿Está dispuesto a ir más
allá de su zona de confort?
¿Usted perdona fácilmente? La compasión
perdona. "Padre, perdónalos porque no
saben lo que están haciendo."
Esta semana a reflexionar sobre
su nivel de compasión.

San Antonio de Padua.
Patron de nuestra parroquia
Nació en Portugal en 1195 en una familia
de la nobleza. Desde niño se consagró a la
Santísima Virgen. En su juventud fue atacado por las pasiones sensuales pero con
ayuda de Dios las dominó, encontrando
su fortaleza en las visitas al Santísimo.
Fue admitido en los franciscanos a inicios
de 1221, fue enviado a predicar en diversas ciudades, obteniendo un gran éxito en
la conversión de los herejes. Se trasladó a
Padua. Denunció y combatió el vicio de la
usura pero poco a poco la salud de San
Antonio se fue deteriorando y se retiró a
descansar a los bosques. Al sentir que su
vida llegaba a su término, pidió regresar
a Padua, pero solo llegó hasta los límites
de la ciudad. El 13 de junio de 1231 recibió
los últimos sacramentos. Fue canonizado
sin que haya transcurrido un año de su
muerte por el Papa Gregorio IX y declarado Doctor de la Iglesia por el Papa
Pío XII.

THƯƠNG VỚI CHÚA
Suy niệm: Trên cung đường “tử thần” hai
xe khách chạy ngược chiều đâm trực diện,
bốc cháy, nhiều thi thể cháy đen, nhiều
hành khách khác bị thương nguy kịch…
Đàng sau đó là tiếng khóc thảm thiết của
bao người trước sự ra đi đột ngột và thảm
khốc của thân nhân họ. Các tin tức như
thế khiến cho người đọc, dẫu không trực
tiếp chứng kiến, cũng phải xúc động rơi
lệ. Trước cảnh não lòng của người đàn bà
goá mất đi người con trai duy nhất, Chúa
Giê-su chạnh lòng thương không chỉ bằng
tình cảm của một con người mà còn bằng
trái tim của Người Con Một của Thiên Chúa
Tình Yêu nữa. Chúa dừng lại an ủi: “Bà
đừng khóc nữa!” Ngài còn hiện thực lời an
ủi đó bằng lệnh truyền đầy quyền năng của
Thiên Chúa: “Hỡi thanh niên, hãy chỗi dậy!”
Mời Bạn: Phải chăng bạn cảm bất lực
trước những đau khổ, bất công mà con
người chung quanh bạn, và có khi cả chính
bạn, đang phải hứng chịu? Thực ra, bạn có
thể làm nhiều hơn bạn tưởng: Trước hết,

Truyện: Cái giếng cũ
Ðây là một cái giếng mà nước rất trong sạch
và dịu mát làm cho ai uống vào cũng cảm thấy
khoan khoái. Một điều đặc biệt nữa là chưa bao
giờ giếng này cạn nước cho dù mùa hè có nắng
hạn đến đâu đi nữa. Chủ nhân của cái giếng này
là một bác nông dân nghèo.
Nhưng đến một lúc mà hệ thống điện nước
chuyển đến nông thôn, thì cái giếng của bác
xem ra cũng trở thành vô dụng. Căn nhà của
bác cũng được sửa chữa lại, hệ thống dẫn nước
cũng được thiết lập. Không ai buồn nghĩ đến
chuyện phải vất vả để kéo nước từ cái giếng đó
nữa. Thế là cái giếng bị đóng lại.
Bẵng đi nhiều năm trời. Một ngày nọ vì tò mò,
người nhà của bác nông dân mở cái giếng cũ ra
xem, thì lạ thay, giếng nước đã bị khô cạn. Bác
nông dân không thể hiểu tại sao cái giếng nước
trong lành của mình đã trở thành khô cạn. Mãi
về sau, ông mới khám phá ra nguyên do: cái
giếng cũ của ông vốn được bao nhiêu mạch nhỏ
tiếp tế, càng múc nước thì nước càng tuôn chảy
vào giếng. Nay đã nhiều năm qua, nước giếng
không còn được múc lên nữa cho nên các mạch
nước bị bít kín và phần nước còn sót lại trong
đáy giếng cũng dần bị bốc hơi và khô cạn.
Mạch nước có được mở ra để trao ban thì nguồn
nước mới tuôn trào. Con người càng trao ban thì
cũng càng trở nên phong phú hơn.
Lời Chúa qua các bài đọc lễ Chúa Nhật
+ Bài đọc 1 : 1V 17,17-24
Sách Các Vua cho biết tiên tri Êlia đến
trọ ở nhà một bà góa ở thành Sarepta.
Bà đã đón tiếp ông rất nồng hậu. Không
may đứa con trai duy nhất của bà bệnh
nặng rồi chết và bà tưởng rằng con bà
bị chết vì lời nguyền của vị tiên tri nhằm
trừng phạt một lỗi nào đó không rõ.
Nhưng nhà tiên tri đã cầu xin Chúa cứu
đứa bé và ông đã được Thiên Chúa nhận
lời. Đứa bé sống lại và đã trao đứa bé
cho mẹ nó.

Thánh Phaolô xác định với tín hữu
Galata rằng : Tin mừng của Ngài rao
giảng không phải là của loài người, mà
ngài đã lãnh nhận trực tiếp nơi Thiên
Chúa.Ngài xác quyết với họ rằng người
ta chỉ được ơn cứu độ nhờ đức tin chứ
không phải nhờ tuân giữ Lề luật.

Chỉ có thánh Luca mới thuật lại chuyện
con trai bà góa thành Naim sống lại, để
nói lên sự can thiệp mang tính cách Thiên
sai của Đức Giêsu.
Khi vào đến cổng thành Na-im, Đức Giêsu
thấy người ta đang đem đi chôn một người
thanh niên con một bà góa. Tất cả mọi
người đi đưa xác, chẳng ai mở lời xin Ngài
cứu giúp, nhưng Ngài đã ra tay cứu giúp
vì Ngài động lòng thương.
Đối đầu với cái chết và sự đau khổ, Đức
Giêsu đã lập tức chứng tỏ tình yêu và
quyền năng siêu việt của Ngài. Dân
chúng nhận ra sự hiện diện của Thiên
Chúa nơi Đức Kitô.
Lòng thương cảm của Chúa
Đức Giêsu vừa là Thiên Chúa thật, vừa là
người thật. Đứng về phương diện nhân loại,
Đức Giêsu cũng có tình cảm như mọi người,
nghĩa là Ngài sống như chúng ta, chỉ trừ tội
lỗi. Hôm nay, Đức Giêsu cũng thấy chạnh lòng
thương đối với bà góa có một người con trai
mới chết đem đi chôn. Đức Giêsu hiểu thấu
tâm trạng của bà : mất chồng, mất người
con nâng đỡ mình trong tuổi già, thiếu người
bênh vực, sống cô đơn… Tuy không ai xin
Ngài làm phép lạ cứu sống đứa con ấy, nhưng
chính Ngài đã ra tay, Ngài khuyên bà đừng
khóc nữa, truyền cho người thanh niên chỗi
dậy và trao anh ta cho mẹ nó.
Bài Tin mừng hôm nay nhắc nhở chúng ta
phải biết thông cảm với người khác. Đừng ai
sống trơ trơ như một hòn đảo giữa đại dương
(theo Thomas Merton), một mình mình biết,
một mình mình hay, nhưng hãy biết tìm đến
với nhau, biết chia vui sẻ buồn với nhau như
lời thánh Phaolô đã khuyên bảo :”Hãy vui
cùng kẻ vui, khóc cùng kẻ khóc” (Rm 12,15).
Con người không thể sống trơ trơ như đá.
Con vật còn biết thương nhau, chia sẻ với
nhau, huống chi là con người. Người Việt
nam chúng ta đã có kinh nghiệm về vấn đề
này nên đã lưu truyền tinh thần ấy trong
câu tục ngữ mà ai cũng biết : Một con ngựa
đau, cả tầu chê cỏ. Có nghĩa là một con ngựa
bị đau ốm không ăn được cỏ thì cả tầu ngựa
(cái máng để chứa thóc, cỏ cho chuồng ngựa
ăn) đều chê cỏ không ăn. Ý nói loài vật có tình
đồng loại, thấy một con ngựa đau thì cả đàn
đều thương.
Theo gương Đức Giêsu, chúng ta hãy tập cho
mình biết đi ra khỏi mình, đừng bao giờ co
cụm lại. Hãy biết đi đến với người khác. Mang
lấy cái tâm tình của người khác , nghĩa là hãy
học để biết thông cảm .
Bí quyết để hiểu người khác chính là đặt mình
vào trong vị trí của họ. Khi Chúa Giêsu đến thế
gian, Ngài đã làm như thế vì chúng ta. Ngài
trực tiếp trải nghiệm những khó khăn của
cuộc sống. Ngài cũng trải qua cảm giác mệt
mỏi, đói khát, cô đơn, đau đớn và mọi vấn đề
khác. Và khi trải nghiệm như thế, Ngài thật sự
cảm thông với chúng ta, Ngài cứu giúp, nâng
đỡ và ủi an chúng ta theo cách chúng ta cần
nơi Ngài.
Hãy bước đi một dặm bằng đôi giày của người
khác, và chúng ta sẽ dần trở thành người
thông hiểu và cảm thông trong những tình
huống cần thiết. Sau đó, hãy điều chỉnh kỳ
vọng và cách biểu hiện của chúng ta cho phù
hợp. Người khác sẽ nhận ra rằng chúng ta biết
trước được những khó khăn và những mối bận
tâm của họ và quan tâm đến những khó khăn
của họ, và điều này sẽ giúp chúng ta sống và
làm việc với mọi người tốt hơn.
Cảm thông giúp tạo nên sự thống nhất về ý
kiến và mục tiêu, và đó chính là một điều
tuyệt vời!
