The Fiscal Year that ended on March 31, 2014 was an
another blessing year for the Foundation. On behalf of the
Board of Directors and the Board of Advisors, I would like
to express our sincerest thanks to all donors and volunteers
for their enormous generous support throughout the year.
Năm Tài Khóa kết thúc ngày 31/3/2014 lại một năm thành
công của Hội. Thay mặt cho Ban Giám Đốc Điều Hành và
Ban Cố Vấn, tôi xin gởi đến quý ân nhân cùng thiện nguyện
viên những lời cám ơn chân thành nhất của chúng tôi đối
với sự hỗ trợ quảng đại của quý vị trong năm.
For Fiscal Year 2013/2014, the Foundation awarded grants
to schools and healthcare centers that serve blind and
visually-impaired children located solely in Vietnam in the
amount of $285,009 which was 18% more comparing to
last year. This funding covered 18 program projects that
included one new building project of Vi Thuy Home for the
Blind. The total cost of this new home for the blind children in Vi Thuy is $60,000, $40,000 of which has granted
in this fiscal year.
Trong Năm Tài Khóa 2013/2014, Hội đã tài trợ cho các
trường sở nuôi dạy các trẻ em khiếm thị ở Việt Nam tổng
số $285,009 Mỹ Kim, 18% nhiều hơn so với năm trước đây.
Tài trợ này được ban cho để thực hiện 18 chương trình
giáo dục, huấn nghệ và điều dưỡng học sinh khiếm thi.
Trong số này, có một công trình xây dựng Mái Ấm Khiếm
Thị Vị Thủy. Tổng số chi phí cho dự án xây cất mái ấm Vị
Thủy là $60,000 Mỹ Kim, $40,000 đã được cấp cho trong
tài khóa này.
The Foundation has recently lost its longtime friend, Sister
Anne Nhuong Thi Nguyen, the person who inspired me to
get involved in services to the blind children in Vietnam.
On my first trip to Vietnam in 1998, when I went back to
visit Sr. Anne at Nhat Hong Thi Nghe Home for the Blind,
I encountered the first blind students whom Sister Anne
and her younger Sisters were caring for. Sr. Anne was not
shy to ask me for help. On returning to the United States,
I and a few friends started to support them monetarily, and
in 2000, founded Nhat Hong Foundation, now called Blind
Vietnamese Children Foundation.
Mới đây Hội đã mất đi một người bạn lâu năm, Nữ tu Anna
Nguyễn Thị Nhường, người đã cảm hứng tôi bắt tay vào
công việc phục vụ những trẻ khiếm thị Việt Nam. Trong
chuyến đi đầu tiên trở về thăm Việt Nam, khi đến thăm Dì
Anna tại Mái Ấm Khiếm Thị Nhật Hồng Thị Nghè, lần đầu
tiên tôi được tiếp xúc với những học sinh khiếm thị được Dì
Anna và các nữ tu trẻ của Dì chăm sóc. Dì Anna đã không
ngần ngại xin tôi giúp đỡ. Khi trở lại Hoa Kỳ, tôi và một
vài người bạn đã chung tiền giúp cho Dì, và năm 2000,
chúng tôi đã lập Hội Nhật Hồng, ngày nay được gọi là Hội
Trẻ Khiếm Thị Việt Nam.
Over the last fifteen years, with the help of the Foundation,
Sister Anne and her sisters developed the tiny shelter of
Nhat Hong Thi Nghe into nine facilities, serving more than
400 blind children all over the country. I could not imagine
how these many blind children in Vietnam would have gotten both an education and career training, both supported
by the Foundation, without the work and determination of
Sister Anne.
Trên mười lăm năm qua, với sự giúp đỡ của Hội, Dì Anna
và các nữ tu của Dì đã phát triển từ một căn nhà nhỏ bé
Nhật Hồng Thị Nghè trở thành chín mái ấm và trường học,
cho hơn 400 trẻ khiếm thị từ khắp nơi. Tôi không thể hình
dung được làm thế nào những trẻ khiếm thị ở Việt Nam này
lại có thể được học hành và huấn luyện nghề nghiệp dưới
sự hỗ trợ của Hội mà không có sự chuyên cần và quyết tâm
phục vụ của Dì Anna.
Sister Anne was called home after a long faith journey at
the age of 98. She was a faithful servant who dedicated her
whole life to serve people in her religious profession – the
Lovers of the Holy Cross Sisters of Thu Duc Congregation.
Knowing her for 46 years, I have tried to learn from her
generous love, humility and hardworking spirit. As Sister
Anne has entered eternal life, we pray for her, and ask her
to pray for our mission that was begun and inspired by this
special nun.
Dì Anna được Chúa gọi về sau một hành trình đức tin dài
với tuổi thọ 98. Dì là một người tôi tớ trung thành đã hiến
trọn cuộc đời phục vụ con người trong đời tu trì thuộc Hội
Dòng Mến Thánh Giá Thủ Đức. Được biết Dì 46 năm qua,
tôi cố gắng học theo tấm gương của Dì, một người giàu
lòng bác ái, khiêm nhường và chuyên cần. Dì Anna đã
hành trình vào đời vĩnh cửu, chúng ta cầu nguyện cho Dì,
và xin Dì cầu nguyện cho sứ mạng của Hội đã được khởi sự
và cảm hứng từ nơi con người đặc biệt của Dì.
