19th Sunday in Ordinary Time: COMING THROUGH…
After Jesus had told them a parable about preparedness,
he challenged his followers that they, too, must be prepared for
the Son of Man will come like a thief in the night at an unexpected hour. The Second Coming of Jesus was thought by the
early Church as an event that will soon take place in their midst. For this reason, many were disappointed
when it didn’t happen immediately. Although there were few who remained and hoped that it will happen in
God’s time, many also had left and lost their trust in Jesus. The servant in the gospel reminds us that we, too,
must always be prepared for the Lord will come at an unexpected hour. He will be like a thief in the night, for
when he comes it will be unannounced. Gird your loins and be watchful for if he finds us waiting, a great reward will be granted to us; but, being watchful also entails fulfilling his will with humility of heart and doing
good to others unconditionally. Faith demands action. Isn’t that great? Just do what he tells you to do.
Christian Morality (Continuation…) BY ANDRES ORTIZ We believe Jesus, as God become human “God
among us,” has most truly shown us how to live. Our moral life is based on trying to live and treat others as Jesus did.
The Bible is the primary source for information on the life of Jesus. In it, we find that the Reign of God (or Kingdom of
God) is the central focus of Jesus’ teaching. Exactly what the Reign of God might mean is not clear. However, we know
that it is a way of living which transforms us when we live it and transforms the world when our actions are consistent
with it. At the core of the teaching are the two commandments: “Love the Lord, your God, with your whole heart, your
whole soul, your whole mind, and with all your strength” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This implies that certain selflessness is an intrinsic part of the Reign of God, where we treat others as though they were Christ, since we see

RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION CLASS / RCIA
The Religious Education/RCIA class will
start on August 17 Wednesday from 57pm. It will be held at the Chapel of our
church. Registration is now on-going, and this program is being offered to
teenagers ages 10-16 only. Please call the parish office and/or fill up the
form that can be found inside the church. Thank you.

CHÚA NHẬT THỨ XIX THƯỜNG NIÊN
VÀO ĐẾN NHÀ…
Khi ấy, sau khi Chúa Giêsu phán với dân chúng theo Người một bài ngụ ngôn về
sẵn sàng, thì Người yêu cầu là họ cũng như vậy, phải luôn sẵn sàng vì Con Người
sẽ đến bất cứ lúc nào vào ban đêm như một kẻ trộm. Lần Đến Thứ Hai của Chúa
Giêsu được người ta nghĩ đến trong thời Giáo Hội sơ khai như một biến cố sẽ xảy
đến rất gần với họ. Vì lý do này mà nhiều người thất vọng khi không thấy xuất
hiện ngay liền. Dù vậy cũng còn một số khác hy vọng việc này sẽ xảy đến vào
ngày giờ Thiên Chúa, nhiều người khác rời bỏ và mất niềm tin vào Chúa Giêsu.
Những người đầy tớ trong bài ngụ ngôn nhắc chúng ta cũng phải như vậy, luôn
luôn sẵn sàng tỉnh thức vì Thiên Chúa sẽ đến vào một thời điểm không thể ngờ tới.
Ngài giống như một kẻ trộm về đêm, vì Người đến mà không báo trước. Chuẩn bị
sẵn sàng, và tỉnh thức vì nếu Người thấy chúng ta đang đợi, thì Người sẽ ban cho
chúng ta một phần thưởng to lớn; nhưng tỉnh thức cũng đòi hỏi thi hành ý muốn của Người với lòng khiêm
nhường và phục vụ tha nhân vô vụ lợi. Đức tin phải có hành động đi kèm. Đó không phải là tuyệt vời sao?
Hãy làm những gì mà Người muốn bạn phải làm!

Chúng ta tin vào Chúa Giêsu, như Thiên Chúa đã làm người “Thiên
Chúa ở giữa chúng ta”, đã thật sự cho chúng ta thấy
phải sống như thế nào. Đời sống đạo đức của chúng
ta dựa vào cách sống và cư xử với tha nhân như
Chúa Giêsu đã làm. Thánh Kinh là nguồn thông tin
đầu tiên về cuộc đời của Chúa Giêsu. Trong đó
chúng ta tìm thấy Vương Quốc của Thiên Chúa (hay
Nước Chúa) là trung tâm điểm của giáo lý Chúa
Giêsu. Đúng ra những gì về Vương Quốc Thiên
Chúa thì không rõ ràng. Tuy vậy, chúng ta biết đó là đường sống mà
nó biến đổi chúng ta khi chúng ta sống theo đó và biến đổi thế giới khi
hành động của chúng ta kiên trì với nó. Cốt lõi của giáo lý là ở hai
giới răn: “Hãy yêu thương Thiên Chúa, là Chúa của ngươi, hết trái
tim, hết linh hồn, hết tâm trí và hết sức ngươi” và “Hãy yêu thương
tha nhân như chính bản thân mình”. Điều này ngụ ý một sự vị tha nào
đó là phần nội tâm của Vương quốc Thiên Chúa, ở đó chúng ta cư xử
với mọi người như là cư xử với Chúa Kitô, vì chúng ta thấy Chúa Kitô
