Growth continues…
In 1975, Fr. Dennis O’Neill, Parochial Assistant, was asked to find a replacement Order for the Poor Clare Missionary
Sisters who wished to concentrate on their new Hope Avenue Pre-school Nursery. Fr. Dennis was surprised when both
the Franciscan Sisters of Syracuse and the Sacred Heart Sisters responded. The Franciscan Sisters were assigned responsibility for the St. Barbara Catholic School Program. The first Principal was Sister Colette Walter. The Sacred
Heart Sisters were assigned responsibility for the Religious Education Program.
In 1980, Fr. Collins was transferred to St. Anne Church in Seal Beach. Fr. Richard A. Delahunty was appointed a
Pastor of St. Barbara succeeding Fr. Collins. He served here for eight years. During his time, Fr. Delahunty further
developed the Parish Council, liturgy and music renewal with the training of cantors for participation of the congregation, faith formation, and spiritual support ministry.

THÔNG BÁO KHÓA THÁNH KINH MÙA HÈ 2016
Mùa Hè 2016 sẽ học hỏi về Sách Xuất Hành Lòng Chúa Thương Xót dưới sự hướng dẫn
của Cha Giuse Nguyễn Thái, linh hướng phong trào Cursillo, Cha phó cộng đoàn St. Barbara.
- Địa điểm học: nhà thờ St. Barbara.
- Thời gian: từ 7pm đến 9:15pm, trong 9 buổi tối Thứ Hai. Khai giảng vào ngày
27 tháng 6, học vào các ngày 4, 11, 18, 25 tháng 7, và các ngày 1, 8, 15, 22 tháng 8.
- Điều kiện: cần có lòng nhiệt thành ao ước học hỏi Lời Chúa, vì thế cần phải có cuốn Thánh Kinh Cựu Ước và Tân
Ước. Xin ghi danh tại văn phòng giáo xứ St. Barbara, 714-775-7733.
Những ai muốn lãnh nhận giấy chứng chỉ được cấp phát bởi địa phận Orange sau khi học hết 8 cuốn: Sách Xuất Hành,
sách Tiên Tri Isaia, sách Thánh Vịnh, Phúc âm Marco, các thư Phaolo, Phúc âm Gioan, các thư Gioan, và sách Khải
Huyền, thì cần phải học thêm phần kỹ năng lãnh đạo: gồm Linh Đạo Kito Giáo và điều hành nhóm, do phong trào Cursillo phụ trách. Riêng khóa Mùa Hè 2016 học về Sách Xuất Hành, thì cần phải học thêm 4 buổi tối khác nữa về kỹ năng
lãnh đạo:

- Thời gian: từ 7pm tới 9:15pm. Các tối Thứ Tư ngày 8 và 22 tháng 6; và ngày 6 và 20 tháng 7.

Vị Tiên Tri Cô Ðộc
Người Ấn Ðộ có kể lại câu chuyện ngụ ngôn sau đây:
"Vì tội lỗi của loài người, Thượng đế dọa sẽ trừng trị họ bằng một trận động đất. Ðất sẽ nứt nẻ và nước sẽ rút hết vào trong lòng
đất... Một thứ nước độc sẽ tràn ngập mặt đất. Ai uống vào sẽ trở nên bất bình thường. Một vị tiên tri nọ đã không xem thường lời đe
dọa của Thượng đế. Ông chuẩn bị đương đầu với biến cố bằng cách từng ngày đem nước lên một ngọn núi cao. Số nước dự trữ đủ
cho ông sống đến ngày tàn của cuộc đời...
Ðộng đất đã xảy đến, bao nhiêu sông nước trên mặt đất đều bốc hơi, một thứ nước khác được thay thế vào.
Một tháng sau, vị tiên tri trở lại đất bằng để xem những gì đang xảy ra cho loài người. Ðúng như lời đe dọa của Thượng đế, mọi
người sống trên mặt đất đều hóa ra điên dại. Nhưng kỳ lạ thay, loài người không ý thức được tình trạng điên dại của mình. Trái lại,
ai cũng muốn ra đường để chế diễu vị tiên tri vì họ cho rằng ông mới là người điên dại... buồn tình, vị tiên tri trở lại chốn núi cao
của mình. Ông sung sướng vì nước dự trữ vẫn còn và ông vẫn là người duy nhất còn có một tâm trí lành mạnh, bình thường...
Nhưng ngày qua ngày, ông cảm thấy không chịu nổi sự cô đơn của mình. Ông khao khát được sống một cách bình thường với
những người đồng loại. Thế là một lần nữa, ông trở lại đồng bằng. Và một lần nữa, ông lại bị dân chúng ruồng rẫy, vì họ cho rằng
ông không còn giống họ nữa.
Không còn chịu được sự hắt hủi của những người đồng loại, vị tiên tri đã đổ hết số nước dự trữ của mình và ông uống lấy nước mới
của người đồng loại để cũng trở nên điên dại như họ..."
Con đường dẫn đến chân lý không phải là con đường rộng thênh thang. Người đi tìm chân lý thường là người cô độc...
Hôm nay chúng ta kính nhớ thánh tông đồ Toma. Ai cũng biết lời bất hủ của Toma khi tuyên bố về sự sống lại của Chúa: Nếu tôi
không xỏ tay tôi vào lỗ đinh và cạnh sườn Ngài, tôi không tin... Theo phương pháp khoa học, nhiều người đã lấy câu nói của Toma
làm châm ngôn cho việc đi tìm chân lý. Nghĩa là, nếu tôikhông kiểm chứng được, nếu tôi không sờ mó được, tôi không chấp nhận
điều đó là đúng...
Thái độ đó chưa hẳn là thái độ thực tiễn trong cuộc sống. Giá trị cao cả nhất trong cuộc sống: đó là sự tin tưởng, tín nhiệm đối với
người khác. Ðau yếu, chúng ta đi mua thuốc, chúng ta buộc phải tin tưởng ở người bán thuốc. Lạc đường, chúng ta buộc phải tin
tưởng ở lòng thành thật của người chỉ lối...
Thái độ đó càng đúng hơn trong lĩnh vực Ðức Tin... Chúng ta tin vào sự sống lại của Chúa Giêsu không phải vì chúng ta đã thấy
Người hiện ra, nhưng chỉ vì lời chứng của các tông đồ, của các tiền nhân... Một thái độ như thế đòi hỏi rất nhiều phấn đấu của lý trí.
Lắm khi, chung ta chỉ là một thiểu số cô độc.
Chúng ta dễ dàng rơi vào nỗi cô độc của những người đang đi tìm chân lý. Người Kitô thường phải đi ngược dòng. Ðiều người đời
cho là bất bình thường, có lẽ phải là cái bình thường đối với người Kitô. Ðiều người đời cho là yếu nhược, có khi phải là sức mạnh
của người Kitô. Ðiều người đời cho là điên dại, có khi phải là lẽ khôn ngoan của người Kitô.

LA PAZ
El saludo de la paz en la Misa fundamenta un mensaje de las lecturas de hoy: la paz es relacional. Cuando le damos la
paz a la persona que está cerca de nosotros en la Misa, compartimos el roce de un apretón de manos o un abrazo, el
contacto visual sincero y palabras amistosas.
Las Escrituras hablan de una paz similar. La primera lectura de Isaías describe la paz como la ciudad sagrada, Jerusalén, un lugar de prosperidad y de consuelo donde "Los siervos del Señor conocerán su poder".
El entendimiento cristiano de la paz cambia ligeramente. San Pablo escribe sobre "la paz y la misericordia" para todos
los que son nuevas criaturas. Jesús describe un sentimiento de paz que se posará sobre los que aceptan a sus
discípulos y a su mensaje.
La paz es tanto la ausencia de conflictos como una bendición personal. Que siempre y sinceramente traigamos paz a
nuestras propias vidas mientras la compartimos con los demás.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
En muchos santuarios de latinoamerica y Europa se pueden encontrar diversas ofrendas que han dejado los fieles a
través de los siglos. Entre estas ofrendas es de particular relieve el exvoto. Exvoto (una frase en latín que se traduce
"del voto") es el regalo que se le presenta al santo o a la santa en reconocimiento del favor recibido. Esto también se
llama "manda".
Los exvotos o mandas toman varias formas desde pequeñas medallas en forma de la parte del cuerpo que fue sanado
hasta pinturas del milagro concedido. El exvoto más antiguo en América es de una pintura mandada a hacer por Hernán Cortés en honor de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Extremadura (España). Esta imagen reconocía el hecho de
ser salvado del piquete de un alacrán mientras estaba en México. Lamentablemente esta pintura se extravió en el siglo
XIX.
En realidad el santo o la santa no necesita el exvoto pero los creyentes sí. Estas mandas nos recuerdan el poder de la
intercesión divina en la vida humana. También nos invitan al agradecimiento de los favores que Dios nos hace.

Carla and her dog, Donovan, came to thank the students for their donations to Dogs on Deployment. This organization helps military
personnel with care for their pets while serving overseas. The students donated their change to help those who serve our country. The
classrooms also have a contest to see who brings in the most during the year. The students from the winning class are awarded
stuffed dogs of their own to foster. Over $1900 was collected to assist the program. Thank you to the students and their families for
their generosity and support of this program. Congratulations to the winning classroom, Kindergarten!
