Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time, June 19, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Today is Father’s Day Sunday. Our nation chooses the third Sunday of June to honor our earthly father. First,
we need to express to our heavenly Father who loves us so much, that he gives us life. Through him, we have
everything. May we always honor and give thanks to our heavenly Father. Next, we need to show our affection to our earthly father who also works very hard in order to raise the family. The book of Sirach states:
“Whoever loves your father, your sins will be forgiven; whoever loves your mother you will find a great treasure; children, please love your parents.” If your father is still living, please come and visit him or take him, out
to dinner or buy him something that he really likes. If he is in the hospital or convalescent home, please come
and visit him. If he is dead, please pray for him that the Lord may reward him in eternal happiness. If we honor our father, our children will continue to love and honor us. May the Lord continue to bestow his grace, love
and peace to all of our fathers on this special day. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers in our parish. Peace,

Continuation from last week…
From another parable, we cull an important teaching for our Christian lives. In reply to Peter’s question about
how many times it is necessary to forgive, Jesus says: “I do not say seven times, but seventy times seven
times” (Mt 18:22).
He then goes on to tell the parable of the “ruthless servant,” who, called by his master to return a huge amount,
begs him on his knees for mercy. His master cancels his debt. But he then meets a fellow servant who owes
him a few cents and who in turn begs on his knees for mercy, but the first servant refuses his request and
throws him into jail. When the master hears of the matter, he becomes infuriated and, summoning the first
servant back to him, says, “Should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on
you?” (Mt 18:33). Jesus concludes, “So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart” (Mt 18:35).
This parable contains a profound teaching for all of us. Jesus affirms that mercy is not only an action of the
Father, it becomes a criterion for ascertaining who his true children are. In short, we are called to show mercy
because mercy has first been shown to us. Pardoning offences becomes the clearest expression of merciful
love, and for us Christians it is an imperative from which we cannot excuse ourselves. At times how hard it
seems to forgive! And yet pardon is the instrument placed into our fragile hands to attain serenity of heart.

takes place June 24 - 26. As a part
of this event we are having an International Bake sale and would
like all of the communities to contribute special
treats to sell during that time.
Because the Rummage Sale is now a Church-wide
event, we would really appreciate special ethnic/
cultural foods, Hispanic, Vietnamese, Filipino,
and other baked delights to make this part of that
weekend a great success.

WOMENS’ SILENT RETREAT
Have you ever had a desire to get away for a few

renew your tired mind, body, and spirit or time to
refocus your life? Jesus said to his disciples, “ Come
away by yourself to a secluded place and rest
awhile” MK 6:31. This is an invitation for you to
join the women of St. Cecilia on our weekend silent retreat on September 16–18. So SAVE THE
DATE! We car pool fr om chur ch on Fr iday at
2:30 and return Sunday by 3:00. We spend the
weekend with the Carmelite Sisters who have a wonderful retreat house in Alhambra. Please join us.

Estimados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo!
Hoy Domingo es el Día del Padre. Nuestra nación elige el tercer domingo de junio para honrar a nuestro padre
terrenal. En primer lugar, tenemos que expresar gratitud a nuestro Padre Celestial que nos ama y que nos ha
dado la vida. A través de él, lo tenemos todo. Que siempre honremos y demos gracias a nuestro Padre Celestial. A continuación, tenemos que mostrar nuestro amor y respeto a nuestro padre terrenal que trabaja muy duro con el fin de sustentar a su familia. El libro del Eclesiástico nos dice: “El que ama a su padre se le perdonaran sus pecados, el que ama a su madre, encuentra un gran tesoro, niños, amen a sus padres.” Si tu padre esta
vivo, por favor, ve a visitarlo, llévalo a cenar o cómprale algo que realmente le guste. Si está en el hospital o
en casa de convalecientes, ve a visitarlo. Si está muerto, por favor oren por él para que el Señor le recompense
con la felicidad eterna. Si honramos a nuestros padres, nuestros hijos continuarán amándonos y honrándonos a
nosotros. Que el Señor siga derramando su gracia, amor y paz a todos nuestros padres en este día y siempre.

MISERICORDIAE VULTUS - BULA DE CONVOCACIÓN
DEL JUBILEO EXTRAORDINARIO DE LA MISERICORDIA

Continuación de la semana pasada….
La parábola ofrece una profunda enseñanza a cada uno de nosotros. Jesús afirma que la misericordia no es solo
el obrar del Padre, sino que ella se convierte en el criterio para saber quiénes son realmente sus verdaderos hijos. Así entonces, estamos llamados a vivir de misericordia, porque a nosotros en primer lugar se nos ha aplicado misericordia. El perdón de las ofensas deviene la expresión más evidente del amor misericordioso y para
nosotros cristianos es un imperativo del que no podemos prescindir. ¡Cómo es difícil muchas veces perdonar!
Y, sin embargo, el perdón es el instrumento puesto en nuestras frágiles manos para alcanzar la serenidad del
corazón. Dejar caer el rencor, la rabia, la violencia y la venganza son condiciones necesarias para vivir felices.
Acojamos entonces la exhortación del Apóstol: “ No permitan que la noche los sorprenda enojados” (Ef 4,26).
Y sobre todo escuchemos la palabra de Jesús que ha señalado la misericordia como ideal de vida y como criterio de credibilidad de nuestra fe. :“Dichosos los misericordiosos, porque encontrarán misericordia” (Mt 5,7) es
la bienaventuranza en la que hay que inspirarse durante este Año Santo.
Como se puede notar, la misericordia en la Sagrada Escritura es la palabra clave para indicar el actuar de Dios
hacia nosotros. Él no se limita a afirmar su amor, sino que lo hace visible y tangible. El amor, después de todo,
nunca podrá ser una palabra abstracta. Por su misma naturaleza es vida concreta: intenciones, actitudes, comportamientos que se verifican en el vivir cotidiano. La misericordia de Dios es su responsabilidad por nosotros. Él se siente responsable, es decir, desea nuestro bien y quiere vernos felices, colmados de alegría y serenos. Es sobre esta misma amplitud de onda que se debe orientar el amor misericordioso de los cristianos. Como ama el Padre, así aman los hijos. Como Él es misericordioso, así estamos nosotros llamados a ser misericordiosos los unos con los otros.

peace of Christ in this year 2016, doesn’t feel anything like a calm year’s stroll in our world, enjoying

it is of the week or year of this lifetime, time’s a
wasting.
The office of Restorative Justice/
Detention Ministry would like to invite you to our
trilingual Mass on June 24, from 6 - 7:30 pm, celebrant: Fr. Francis Ng, Chaplain of Detention
Ministry.
This impression passes its reality check with the
presence of so many new families who are inspired
to be part of our family of families in which we can
all give as well as get. The new recruits are enjoying
the transforming experiences of eating good meals,
getting medical and dental attentions, starting realistic programs of education for good jobs and learning
the tricks of creating the kind of prosperity that includes the priority of getting to Heaven. But their
most dramatic transformation is each family’s newly
found self-awareness as one of God’s family of families each one with a vocation to contribute no matter
how much money they don’t make. We latch on to
their style, and simply ask God to keep His providence working, as it has for fifty years through your
benefactors. That’s all we need in order to face up to
the spiritual needs, number of meals, health care,
education and foibles of this next generation. This
2016 year’s liturgical season’s jolt shocks us into
getting up to a new speed with living Jesus’s best
human self in us.
