Administrator’s Corner Second Sunday of Lent, February 21, 2016 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we enter the second week of Lent, I invite all of you to reflect on the meanings of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, so we can be resurrected with Christ on Easter Sunday. The theme for today’s readings is metamorphosis or transformation. The readings invite us to work with the Holy Spirit to transform our lives by renewing them during Lent so that they may radiate the glory and grace of the transfigured Lord to all around us by our spirit-filled lives. The first reading describes the transformation of a pagan patriarch into a believer in God, the transformation of his name from Abram to Abraham, and the first covenant of God with Abraham’s family as a reward for Abraham’s obedience to God. In the second reading, St. Paul argues that it is not observance of the Mosaic Law and circumcision that transforms people into Christians, and therefore Gentiles need not become Jews to become Christians. In the Transfiguration account in today’s Gospel, Jesus is revealed as a glorious figure, superior to Moses and Elijah. The primary purpose of Jesus’ Transfiguration was to allow him to consult his Heavenly Father in order to ascertain His plan for His Son’s Suffering, Death and Resurrection. The secondary aim was to make his chosen disciples aware of His Divine Glory, so that they might discard their worldly ambitions and dreams of a conquering political Messiah and might be strengthened in their time of trial. On the mountain, Jesus is identified by the heavenly voice as the Son of God. Thus, the Transfiguration experience is a manifestation or revelation of who Jesus really is. Describing Jesus’ Transfiguration, the Gospel gives us a glimpse of the heavenly glory awaiting those who do God’s will by putting their trusting Faith in Him. May we pray during this season to renew ourselves and deepen our faith in the refuge of our Lord’s glory, here on earth as it is in Heaven! Fr. Bao EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY www.rcbo.org/year-of-mercy/ or www.im.va/content/gdm/en.html Message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the Celebration of the XLIX World Day Of Peace - 1 January 2016 Continuation from last week… [14] Moreover, indifference to the natural environment, by countenancing deforestation, pollution and natural catastrophes which uproot entire communities from their ecosystem and create profound insecurity, ends up creating new forms of poverty and new situations of injustice, often with dire consequences for security and peace. How many wars have been fought, and how many will continue to be fought, over a shortage of goods or out of an insatiable thirst for natural resources? [15] From indifference to mercy: the conversion of hearts 5. One year ago, in my Message for the 2015 World Day Peace, with the motto “No Longer Slaves, but Brothers and Sisters”, I evoked the first biblical icon of human brotherhood, that of Cain and Abel (cf. Gen 4:1-16). I meant to draw attract attention to how from the very beginning this original brotherhood was betrayed. Cain and Abel were brothers. Both came from the same womb, they were equal in dignity and created in the image and likeness of God; but their relationship as brothers was destroyed. Continuation next week... When considering the third discipline, almsgiving, please keep in mind a special donation to the St. Cecilia Mission Ministry and the many missionaries the program supports. To name but a few who keep us informed of their work and needs: Bishop Josef Roszynski of Papua New Guinea, Fr. L.M. Zukol of India, Sr. Janet Kemmler of the Philippines, Msgr. Donald Okoro of Nigeria, Bro. Jacob Mathalikunnel of St. Joseph’s Boys home, India, Sr. Francis Stacey of El Salvador, C.A., and Fr. Marc Boisvert of Haiti, who once visited us right here at St. Cecilia. After hearing his inspiring words you, the parishioners, insisted the Mission Board accept him as our newest missionary. To refresh your memories, here is an accounting from Fr. Thomas J. O’Hara of the Congregation of the Holy Cross: “I had to pause in astonishment over this year’s group of Jubilarians. These priests have dedicated 1,055 combined years of service - what a blessing. This, coupled with the enthusiasm of our newly ordained men, gives us much for which to be happy and thankful. The Lord called them and us all to this work serving across five countries and three continents. It is with your care, compassion, prayers, and support that we are able to continue the mission Blessed Basil Moreau set forth from the start. We all continue to pray for you and your families. May the Lord grant you peace, blessings, and joy in all you do. Yours in Holy Cross” (From the campus of Notre Dame.) Remember to use the Blue Mission envelope for your donation. All of the St. Cecilia missionaries keep our parishioners in their prayers so don’t forget to keep them in your prayers! Thanks to our Advertisers! Building on the prophetic voices of Margaret Mary Alacoque, Thérèse of Lisieux, Maximilian Kolbe, and Faustina Kowalska, this book is more than a historical account of the Great Mercy Pope. This book expounds on the profound connection between Divine Mercy and Marian consecration. It serves as an inspiration for all those who desire to bear witness to the mercy of God, focused on Christ and formed by Mary. Now is the time to make John Paul’s story your own. Agustin invite YOU to please take a moment to look at the page to your left to see all kinds of ministries and services we have here at St. Cecilia.
