wins 19th Grand
Slam title

Top-seeded Serena Williams took
home her 19th Grand Slam title after
defeating Maria Sharapova in
straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). This is
Williams' sixth Australian Open
crown, the most in the open era. This
crown adds to William’s previous
Australian Open crowns, which she
won in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009,
2010 and now 2015.
This win places Williams as the oldest winner of the Australian Open at
33 years old, and with 19 Grand
Slam titles she now trails only Margaret Court (24) and Steffi Graff (22)
for most major tournament crowns.

Youngblood, Kisney honor Northwest Raiders football team
Pop Warner National Super Bowl Championship football team winners from the Germantown area of Northwest Philadelphia were honored
on the House floor today, in a ceremony orchestrated by state Reps.
Rosita C. Youngblood and Stephen Kinsey, both D-Phila.
The Northwest Raiders, winners of the 2014 national Pop Warner title,
defeated a team from Connecticut in a game held at Walt Disney World
in Orlando, Fla., and televised on ESPN2. Their accomplishment was acknowledged by H.R. 34, jointly sponsored by Youngblood and Kinsey.
"It is a pleasure and honor to recognize a group of young men who, in
the truest display of dedication and teamwork, have accomplished such a
lofty goal," Youngblood said. "Their success is proof that when you set a
goal and put your mind to it, anything is possible. They have put themselves – and their community – on the national stage in an impressively
positive way."
Kinsey said, "The old adage goes, 'It's not whether you win or lose, but
how you play the game.' We can be proud of the way the Northwest
Raiders played the game – and doubly proud of the fact that they
emerged victorious. In so doing, they've become role models for countless other youths."
Youngblood made particular note of the strong educational component
of the Pop Warner title, reiterating that the organization which operates in
42 states requires players to maintain academic standards in order to take
the field.
"These players aren't just athletically gifted; they've also had to prove
their intellectual mettle in the classroom just to get the chance to complete," Youngblood said. "In the end, it is the latter that will serve most of
them well, because a good education can't be taken away by a bad injury,
like those that have short-circuited many athletic careers."

Remembering world heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier

On Monday, January 12,
2015, Joe Frazier would have
been 71 years old, were he
still alive. This was the 3rd
year that his daughter and
son-in law, the honorable
Judge Jacqueline Frazier
Lyde and her husband, Boxing Promoter , Pete Lyde,
hosted a birthday remembrance celebration for world
boxing champion Joe Frazier
and each year since his death, this event is packed,
with standing room only. The first year, the Joe
Frazier Birthday remembrance event was held At
the African American Museum. Last year it was
held at the Enterprise Center and this year, it was
held at H&H Banquet Hall in West Oak Lane.
As many in Philly will recall, Frazier passed
away November 7, 2011 at the age of 67. He
fought a total of 37 fights. He had 32 wins, he had
27 wins by knock -out and he had 4 losses.
Known as Smokin’ Joe Frazier, he was a professional
boxer, Olympic gold medalist and undisputed world
heavyweight champion, whose professional career lasted
from 1965-1976, with a one-fight comeback in 1981.
During the remembrance celebration January 12th, a
number of people received awards including Florence
Frazier, Thomas Frazier,
posthumously, The Pop
Warner National Football Champions, (Olney
Eagles), The Northwest
Raiders Champions, and
the father and son
awards went to Coach

his son, student athlete

I applaud Judge Jackie and her husband Pete Lyde, for
not only working to keep the memory of Joe Frazier
alive, but also in celebrating current boxers of today as
well as retired boxers and those who have passed. It is
also a forum where Judge Jackie and her husband celebrate our youth. The youth did a number of performances
during the event and there were also the youth sports
players who were recipients of awards that evening,
which I mentioned earlier. Whatever we do, we need to
always try to incorporate our youth into the program and

Senator Williams holds event to help stem HIV/AIDS
On the 15th anniversary of National Black HIV/AIDS
Awareness Day, Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams and the
Pennsylvania chapter of the National Coalition of 100
Black Women will hold a community event that will
offer free HIV testing and education about the disease.
The event will happen this Saturday, Feb. 7.
“HIV and AIDS are still a problem in the black community, and it is up to us to make sure we know the
causes and risks of these diseases,” Sen. Williams said.
“While African-Americans make up about 14 percent of
the U.S. population, they still account for more than 40
percent of all new HIV cases.
“I cannot just sit and watch as this problem still hurts
us,” Williams said.
Sen. Williams event will run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
at the Kingsessing Recreation Center, 4901 Kingsessing
Ave. Light refreshments will be served.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says
African-Americans are most affected by HIV.
An estimated 1-in-16 African-American men and 1-in32 African-American women will be diagnosed with HIV
infection at some point in their lifetimes,
By the end of 2011, the CDC said nearly 266,000
African-Americans died after their HIV developed into
stage 3 AIDS.

people are living with HIV in the Philadelphia area and
are being infected at a rate that is five times faster than
the national average.
“The numbers are staggering enough, but what should
really get the community’s attention, as it did mine, is
that some 73,000 African-Americans don’t know that
they have HIV,” Sen. Williams said. “Helping Philadelphians become aware of the risks and possibilities is the
goal of this Saturday’s free event.
“Whether you just want to learn about HIV and AIDS
or are concerned about the status of your health, come to
the Kingsessing Rec. Center and get the peace of mind
you deserve,” he said.
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day started as
an effort to get African-Americans educated, involved,
tested and treated. This year’s observance and outreach is
under the theme: “I am my brother/sister’s keeper. Fight
HIV/AIDS.”

A call to end child poverty now

The United Kingdom, whose economy, if it were an
American state, would rank just above Mississippi according to the Washington Post, committed to and succeeded in cutting its child poverty rate by half in 10 years.
It is about values and political will. Sadly, politics in our
nation too often trumps good policy and moral decency
and responsibility to the next generation and the nation’s
future. It is way past time for a critical mass of Americans
to confront the hypocrisy of America’s pretension to be a
fair playing field while almost 15 million children languish in poverty.
The Children’s Defense Fund just released a groundbreaking new report, Ending Child Poverty Now, that
calls for an end to child poverty in the richest nation on
earth with a 60 percent reduction immediately. And it
shows that solutions to ending child poverty in our nation
already exist and for the first time how, by combining expanded investments in existing policies and programs that
work, we can shrink overall child poverty 60 percent,
Black child poverty 72 percent, and improve economic
circumstances for 97 percent of poor children at a cost of
$77.2 billion a year. These policies could be and should
be pursued immediately, improving the lives and futures
of millions of children and eventually saving taxpayers
hundreds of billions of dollars annually.
Child poverty is way too expensive to continue. Every
year we keep 14.7 million children in poverty costs our
nation $500 billion – six times more than the $77 billion
investment we propose to reduce child poverty by 60 percent. MIT Nobel Laureate economist and 2014 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Dr. Robert Solow in his
foreword to a 1994 CDF report Wasting America’s Future
presciently wrote: “For many years Americans have allowed child poverty levels to remain astonishingly high
… far higher than one would think a rich and ethical society would tolerate. The justification, when one is offered
at all, has often been that action is expensive: ‘We have
more will than wallet.’ I suspect that in fact our wallets
exceed our will, but in any event this concern for the
drain on our resources completely misses the other side of
the equation: Inaction has its costs too … As an economist I believe that good things are worth paying for; and
that even if curing children’s poverty were expensive, it
would be hard to think of a better use in the world for
money. If society cares about children, it should be willing to spend money on them.”

schools. Philadelphia families are desperate for quality, safe education for their
children. This has never
been more apparent than
today, with the efforts at
improving our public and
charter schools moving at
a glacial pace. Thousands
of Philadelphia children
are left with little alternative, as the schools they
are forced to attend are
often the lowest performing schools in the state.
Demand for alternatives,
especially from low-income Philadelphia families
who do not have the financial access to alternatives,
is great. But, there is hope:

Fund Philadelphia (CSFP)
will issue 2,000 new fouryear scholarships for
Philadelphia families who
need financial assistance
to send their children to a
tuition-based, K-8th grade
school of their choosing.
There is no cost to submit
your application, but families must act now. Applications must be received no
later than March 1, 2015.

It is a national moral disgrace that there are 14.7 million poor children and 6.5 million extremely poor children in the United States of America – the world’s largest
economy. It is also unnecessary, costly and the greatest
threat to our future national, economic and military security.
There are more poor children in America than the combined residents in six of our largest U.S. cities: Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San
Antonio with a combined total population of 14.6 million
residents. There are more children living in extreme
poverty in the United States (6.5 million) than there are
total residents in 33 individual states and the District of
Columbia.
The younger children are the poorer they are during
their years of greatest brain development. Every other
American baby is non-White and 1 in 2 Black babies is
poor, 150 years after slavery was legally abolished.
America’s poor children did not ask to be born; did not
choose their parents, country, state, neighborhood, race,
color, or faith. In fact if they had been born in 33 other industrialized countries they would be less likely to be poor.
Among these 35 countries, America ranks 34th in relative
child poverty – ahead only of Romania whose economy is
complex that has become the new American apartheid.
And it is profoundly unjust to continue making budget
cuts in safety net programs to feed and house the poor and
not provide an opportunity and decent wages for parents
who work while increasing wealth and income inequality
fueled by hundreds of billions of dollars of tax breaks for
the top one percent from many tax loopholes described in
the report.
Not only does child poverty cost far more than eliminating it would, we have so many better choices that reflect more just values as well as economic savings. We
believe that food, shelter, quality early childhood investments to get every child ready for school and an equitable
education for all children should take precedence over
massive welfare for the rich and blatantly excessive
spending for military weapons that often do not work. If
we built 485 fewer of the planned 2,500 F-35s that still
don’t work reliably and are over budget we could fund the
$77 billion required to lift 60 percent of our children from
poverty now as their minds and bodies are developing.
President Eisenhower, a former five star general, reminded us that: “Every gun that is made, every warship
launched, every rocket fired, signifies…a theft from those
who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are
not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money
alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius
of its scientists, and the hope of its children.” Yet we are
spending $48.2 billion a month; $11.1 billion a week;
$1.6 billion a day; $66 million an hour; $1.1 million a
minute; and $18,323 a second on the military.
If we love America and love our children we must all
stand against the excessive greed and militarism that
tramples millions of our children entrusted to our care.
America’s Declaration of Independence says, “We hold
these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal, and are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights.” After more than two centuries, it is time
to make those truths evident in the lives of all poor children and to close our intolerable national hypocrisy gap
and show the world whether democratic capitalism is an
oxymoron or can work in a majority non-White world
desperate for moral example. Please download a copy of
Ending Child Poverty Now, share it widely with your networks and then take action. Together, acting with urgency
and persistence, we can end preventable and devastating
child poverty across our country. A nation that does not
stand for its children does not stand for anything and will
not stand tall in the 21st century world or before God.

Amethyst is the stone for the month of February
In the Middle Ages Amethyst was thought to encourage celibacy, and as a result became important in the
ornamentation of churches. Amethyst, according to
Leonardo Da Vinci, is able to increase intelligence and dissolve evil thoughts. Catherine the great was very fond of
amethysts. They adorn the British Crown Jewels and were
coveted by Egyptian royalty. Rosaries in Tibet are often
made from amethyst, a gemstone considered to be sacred to
Buddha. Ancient Greeks believed amethyst would protect
against drunkenness (“amethystas” is a Greek word meaning
“not drunken”) and therefore carved wine goblets from it.
Amethyst is believed to purify the mind, increase tranquility
and alleviate anxiety.

betting on cards and roulette, you bet on future

derivative. Most large banks try to prevent smaller investors from gaining access to the derivative market on

The Western, not just the US financial system but the
whole global system is teetering on the brink of economic implosion and there is almost no way to save us
from this catastrophe. Greed, avarice and cunning have
put the whole world in a precarious situation. Most of us
have no clue what is going on or why and how such a
scenario is even possible.
In 2006 I read a book by Mathias Chang entitled Future Fast Forward The Zionist Anglo-American Empire
Meltdown. The book has three sections, in the first section Mr. Chang wrote about the US and global banking
and financial situation. The second the third sections of
the book dealt with global geopolitics and the potential
for World War III.
In section one, Chang exposed the risks and hazards of
casino capitalism and zombie banks; especially the derivatives bubble that threatened to take down the global system. In 2005 I had never heard of derivatives and I had to
research what they were just to follow what he was saying. He said the major banks which later were termed
“too big to fail” were over leveraged to the tune of trillions of dollars and predicted an eminent economic crash.
The book was published in 2005 I read it in late 2006,
but by 2008 only a smidgen of what Chang predicted
would happen occurred when Lehman Brothers and AIG
collapsed, threatening to take down the whole Wall Street
hydra.
Warren Buffet the billionaire wheeler dealer called fi-
nancial derivatives “weapons of mass financial destruction.” The situation with derivatives is so unregulated,
wide open and unstable even Warren Buffet predicts a
major financial Armageddon due to derivative speculation.
When Lehman and AIG imploded in 2008 the
banksters knew they were in serious trouble and moved
quickly to dupe and pressure the US government into
bailing their behinds out; otherwise what Chang predicted would have happened in full effect. The fact is the
system still faces the potential for wholesale destruction,
even more so now than when Chang wrote his book because speculators, crooks and leeches have jacked up the
system to the point derivative speculation and gambling
now total more than six or seven hundred trillion dollars
depending on your sources.
“Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin issued a call on Tuesday for
regulation of the ‘over the counter’ derivatives market,
which has an estimated size of about $596 trillion. By
contrast, the value of the world's financial assets—including all stock, bonds, and bank deposits—was pegged
at $167 trillion last year by McKinsey. How can the derivatives market be larger than the entire world's financial
wealth? Because the same assets might be involved in
several different derivatives. A derivative is a financial
instrument whose value depends on something else—a
share of stock, an interest rate, a foreign currency, or a
barrel of oil, for example. One kind of derivative might
be a contract that allows you to buy oil at a given price
six months from now. But since we don't yet know how
the price of oil will change, the value of that contract can
be very hard to estimate. (In contrast, it's relatively easy
to add together the value of every share being traded on

In 1929 the stock market was flourishing because the
public (meaning the little guys, the working stiffs) was
encouraged to buy stocks, and a lot of stocks were being
bought, sold and traded on credit, what the stock professionals call margin; well the same thing is happening
today with derivatives. Only today its margin or credit
buying on steroids! Chang pointed this out in his book
and it is fairly well known in financial circles now.
In 2015 derivatives trading is totally out of control because it is not regulated. Why? Because the banksters and
speculators were successful in repealing part of the

apply new capital and liquidity to banks are ‘well on
track’, efforts to better regulate derivatives are ‘running
behind original timetables’. And last week the Bank for
International Settlements revealed that the amount of
over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives outstanding reached
$US710 trillion at the end of 2013, a 12 per cent increase
on the year before. Most of that exposure is held by
banks. The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
has just published its latest quarterly report on bank trading in derivatives, and disclosed that the exposure of US
banks to them now totals $US237 trillion. Of that, the big
four - JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Goldman Sachs and
Bank of America - account for US$219.7 trillion. And
that's just the Americans. Meanwhile the other area of
bank regulation that is nowhere near being finalised is
the problem of ‘too big to fail’ - that is, where governments can't allow certain banks to go broke because that
would bring down the financial system itself… And although Glenn Stevens didn't say this, it seems that the
leverage problem these days is not excessive lending on
housing, as it was in 2005-06, but exposure to derivatives. By far the largest type of derivatives trading involves interest rate swaps, in which two parties agree to
exchange interest cash flows, usually with one of them
paying a fixed rate and getting a floating rate in return.
It's simply a way of betting on interest rate movements
instead of horses, or flies on the wall, and always involves significant leverage. It's true that banks are able to
use interest rate swaps to hedge their exposure to a certain movement interest rates, but for example JP Morgan's total assets are US$1.5 trillion while its exposure to
derivatives is US$70 trillion, or 47 times the assets, so
you'd have to think there is rather more gambling going

Mathias Chang revealed this in his book in 2005; ten
years later it is far worse. Keep in mind all this fancy financial jargon really means is these bets are being made
with credit rather than cash or collateral. So if someone
loses and in these transactions someone always loses, if
they don’t have the cash, collateral or insurance to back
up the bet, it goes belly up and the default could trigger a
Lehman/AIG type collapse only worse!
The drop in oil prices will have short term and possible
long term consequences since oil is a commodity that is
traded. And since speculators buy oil derivatives it could
be a trigger for a major setback. “It has been estimated
that the six largest ‘too big to fail’ banks control $3.9 trillion in commodity derivatives contracts. And a very
large chunk of that amount is made up of oil derivatives.

57th Annual Grammy select Cleff Club student
to perform at Grammy Camp, jazz session
Just one year ago, student Yesseh Furaha-Ali (Tenor
Sax) participated in the official GRAMMY Camp – Jazz
Session. This year, the GRAMMY selection committee
was impressed with 17 year-old, Immanuel Wilkins (Alto
Sax). Both young men received training at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts. As a member of the 2015 Jazz Session, Wilkins will meet top
music industry professionals that potentially could jumpstart his recording career. The committee responsible for
the selection searched nationwide for the best and brightest; now Wilkins is amongst 31 other talented students
that will have this chance-of-a lifetime.
During the GRAMMY week in Los Angeles, California, he will play in the GRAMMY band and perform at
Club Nokia, the Spaghettini & the Dave Koz Lounge in
Beverly Hills, California, the GRAMMY Celebration
after-party and a musical recording at the Capitol Studios
& Mastering in Hollywood, California courtesy of the
EMI Music Group. The skilled saxophonist will culminate the week on February 8 attending the 57th Annual
GRAMMY Awards airing on CBS.
“I’m proud of my students and know they deserve the
recognition,” said Lovett Hines, musical director for the
Clef Club. Immanuel Wilkins, a high school senior, has a
wide range of talent that has allowed him to play several
game-day national anthems at the Wachovia Center, numerous summer-time jazz festivals including Cape May
Jazz Festival and special concerts at the Kimmel Center.
For over seven years, 18 year-old Yesseh Furaha-Ali, received master classes from the Clef Club’s Lovett Hines.
Prior to his membership in the 2014 GRAMMY Camp,
Ali had guest appearances playing at Carnegie Hall, U.S.
Air Force Band, the Monterey Jazz Band and several jazz
festivals throughout Philadelphia’s tri-state region. Ali is
now a freshman at the renowned Berklee College of
Music in Boston, where he earned a four-year Presidential Scholarship.
For more than 20 years, The Philadelphia Clef Club of
Jazz & Performing Arts has offered a musical educational
program. The Clef Club provides lessons to more than
5,000 students each season with socio-economic challenges. In addition, the Clef Club sends trained musicians and performing artists into classrooms to give
much needed arts education, which reinforces school curricula and encourages creativity.

Historical Precis: Six Years Before the
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Wayblackmemories. It is 1949 and a young English
Professor at Alabama State College takes the MIC:
"I was as happy as I had ever been my life that Saturday morning before Christmas in December, 1949 as I
prepared to leave the campus of Alabama State College
in Montgomery for the holidays. I had been a member of
the English faculty at the college since September of that
year, and I had loved every moment of it....One of the
men students loaded my suitcases in my car for me and I
drove at a leisurely pace out to the airport, checked my
baggage for the trip to the East, then returned to the college campus, locked my car in a garage, made my way to
the nearest bus stop, and waited for the short ride to a
friend's home. We were all going to the airport together. I
had never felt freer or happier. I boarded an almost empty
bus, dropped my coins into the proper place, and observed the passengers aboard, only two -- a white woman
who sat in the third row from the front, and a black man
in a seat near the back. I took the fifth row seat from the
front and sat down, immediately closing my eyes and envisioning, in my mind's eye, the wonderful two weeks
vacation I would have with my family and friends in
Ohio. "

And suddenly "From the far distance there was total
darkness and the haunting sound of Olajunji. And there
were Wayblackmemories as Jo Ann Robinson continues:
"From the far distance of my reverie I thought I heard a
voice..an unpleasant voice, but was too happy to worry
about voices, or any noise for that matter. But the same
words were repeated, in a stronger, unsavory tone and
opened my eyes. Immediately I sat up in that seat. The
bus driver had stopped the bus, turned in his seat, and
was speaking to me!
Manitoba, the bus driver drives the point home: "If you
can sit in fifth row of the other buses in Montgomery
suppose you get off and ride in one of them.!" I heard
him but the message did not register with me. My
thoughts were elsewhere. I
had not even noticed that
the bus had come to a full
stop, or I had subconsciously surmised that passengers were getting on or
off. Suddenly the driver left his
seat and stood over me. His hand
was drawn back as if he was
going to strike me. "Get up from
there!" he yelled. He repeated it,
for, dazed, I had not moved. "Get
up from there.!"
Moving in the foreplay of liberty, justice and freedom, Mrs.
Robinson concludes her own
Twisted Tale from the Black Bottom of Montgomery: "I leaped to
my feet, afraid he would hit me,
and ran to the front door to get off
the bus. I even stepped down to
the lower level, so that when the
door was opened, I could step off
the bus and hide myself, for tears
were falling rapidly from my
eyes. It suddenly occurred to me that I was supposed to
go to the back of the bus to get off, not the front! However, was too upset , frightened, and tearful to move. I
never could have walked to the rear door. Then the
driver opened the front door and I stumbled off the bus
and started walking back to the college. Tears blinded
my vision, waves of humiliation inundated me, and I
thanked God that none of my students was on that bus to
witness the tragic experience.

On 2 March 1955, nearly sixty years ago and nine
months before Rosa Parks was arrested, a courageous
black teenager named Claudette Colvin struck a blow for
freedom in the Capitol of the Confederate South. Phillip
Hoose writes: Claudette and her classmates got out of
school early that Wednesday because of a faculty meeting. When she stepped outside, the afternoon air was
warm and muggy, almost like summer. Claudette spotted some friends and ran to catch up with them. The

Wolf’s Start Continues– Just two weeks ago,
Governor Wolf was
sworn into office. Since
that time, he has gone
straight to work, announcing his support of
medical marijuana as
well as urging advocates
to present a bill that
would ban all types of
discrimination, including
that of sexual identity, in
the workplace and housing. Reiterating his reference to William Penn
during his inauguration
address, Wolf maintains

This week’s rap from
the Mayor of Girard Avenue, Toby Rich is a Shout
Out to Mr. Charlie Gray the
owner of The Rib Crib -- a
very famous Bar-b-que
Spare Rib restaurant in Germantown. Since it is February which we all know is
Black History Month and the best part of February beside Valentine’s Day. I thought that it
would only be fitting if we were to say just a little bit
about the History of our very own Mr. Charlie Gray.
In addition to owning the Rib Crib, Mr. Charlie Gray
and his wife were both teachers in schools in the community and they both taught well. Black students were not
alone in the blessing of being taught by these two caring
people, white students also had the honor of being taught
by them as well.
I know that Mr. Gray taught Science and he was a
good teacher because he would help you to understand
what you were learning and both of them would take
their time with you so that you learn what they were
teaching, It made no difference what color or religion
you were. However they did expect more from you if
they liked you as a person and if you were Black. They
would say that we as a people must try harder because
there was so much more at stake. We were not just learning for ourselves. Our education represented a whole
people that had no education and no one really wanted us
to be able to learn. They would tell you “isn’t it funny
that we were the only people with no language of our
own and why was it that at first our parents and Grandparents were not allowed to read? That is why they could
not read and not because we were too dumb to learn.
They all wanted to learn how to read but they were not
allowed and the good white folks that took the time to
teach Black folks how to often got locked up and put in

vacate the entire row so she could sit down in one of the

This is the incredible story
of Ron Wyatt and how he actually found the Ark of the
Covenant and the blood of Jesus Christ! This information should have been front page news all over
the world but has been suppressed by those wishing to deny
Jesus.
When Israeli scientists tested the blood for Ron they had
never seen anything like it! First the blood was still alive
and they could analyze the chromosomes which would
have been impossible if this was normal blood. Secondly
when they analyzed the blood, they found that it had 23
chromosomes from the mother as was normal but only
ONE chromosome from the father! About 90% of the scientists did not believe in God or Jesus Christ before they
analyzed this blood but Ron Wyat reported that every single scientist involved in the blood testing converted to
Christianity afterwards!

books and videos on this website. Ron was truly a very special man that did God's will on Earth by proving the accuracy of the Holy Bible. Ronald Eldon Wyatt (1933 –
August 4, 1999) was an adventurer and former nurse anesthetist noted for advocating the Durupınar site as the site

Aligning with his commitment to teen mentoring, Steve
Harvey returns as the program’s celebrity ambassador.
He will help launch and co-host the 2015 Coca-Cola Pay
It Forward Academy, a three-day mentoring and education preparation experience for the winners and their
moms/legal guardians. The Academy will take place in
Atlanta, July 24 – 26. “Having a mentor as a young man
played a pivotal part in my success,” said Harvey. “In the
African American community, moms take on the same
role. Their involvement has a crucial impact on the development of their teenagers. Through the Coca-Cola Pay
It Forward Academy, we can influence the lives of some
truly deserving teens, while supporting and empowering
their mothers.” The Coca-Cola Pay It Forward Academy
is designed to share valuable resources to help empower
moms as they prepare their teens for higher education.
During the Academy, the winners will be exposed to custom experiences that will help build their confidence to
pursue academic success. The Coca-Cola Pay It Forward
Academy will engage them on relevant topics like personal branding, preparing for higher education and selecting a career path. Additionally, there will be a track
for moms focusing on areas including college financial
preparation, self-empowerment and study skill support

When someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol, the disease affects the entire family. Each month PRO-ACT
(Pennsylvania Recovery Organization–Achieving Community Together) hosts a free Family Addiction Education Program to help individuals and families recognize
and address an addiction problem in a spouse, parent,
child or other loved one. Led by trained volunteers who
have been in the same situation, these information and
support programs begin the first week of each month and
run one evening a week for three consecutive weeks.
Each session lasts two hours.
Programs are offered at several locations throughout
the five-county southeast Pennsylvania region:
•Tuesdays—From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Media and
Northeast Philadelphia.
•Wednesdays—From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Pottstown;
from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in North Philadelphia; and

a time when we as
African Americans tell
who we are as individuals
and as a race of people.
The great historian Carter
G. Woodson as a weeklong celebration founded
it, it now takes in the
whole month of February
and it is my hope and
prayer that we will not limit the celebration
of our history to one month because we make
history everyday. It is a time men we give
our children knowledge of their past. It is a
time when we celebrate our achievements in
a country that has tried to keep us from
achieving. It is a time when we present ourselves to the world, so that humanity will know and
can see what God has done in the past, what he is
doing in the present and what he will do in the future
to liberate us, His people, in this land which caused our
fore parents to sing: "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child!"
If you think that we are free, you better think again.
God has told us that we shall be free and this I believe.
Sane folks feel we shall never be free, but the Word of
God, the Spirit of Truth and the pages of History say,
"That's a lie that cannot stand." As long as God gives
us strength we should keep on striving and as President
John F. Kennedy said, "We shall pay any price, bear
any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, and
oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of
liberty."
Through the years, Mother America, has tried to tell
us that we are nobody. But through the power of the
Holy Spirit our eyes were opened and we realized that
Everybody is Somebody because we are all made by
God and stamped with dignity and worth. You see,
God never did and never will make junk. We too have
helped to build America. We too sing, "God Bless
America." Yes, we too believe that all men are created
equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights; that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." We want complete
freedom in America, like everyone else.
Sometimes our efforts seem in vain because we have
in the past and still today go through unearned bloody
sweat and tears. But we must always remember as
Fredrick Douglass told us, "If there is no struggle,
there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation are men who want
crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain
without thunder and lighting. They want the ocean
without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or
it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a
struggle. Power concedes nothing without demand. It
never did and never will . . . Men may not get all they
pay for in this world, but they must certainly pay for
all they get." With this in mind let us forever push forward and never give up. "For the race doesn't go to the
swift nor the battle to the battle to the strong but to he
who endures until the end." And endure we must. For

Yes, our struggle has been rough and it will always be rough because there is nothing free about freedom. But if we keep the faith we shall see that our
labor is not in vain. For I don't believe the Lord God
Almighty has brought us this far to leave us. You see,
I've come to realization that we must go through the
Wilderness in order to reach the "Promised Land."
And the Promised Land we shall see because one day
God allowed Martin Luther King, Jr. to go to the
mountaintop. While he was there he looked over and
saw the Promised Land and told us, "I might not get
there with you, but we as people will get to the Promised Land!
I don't know about you, but deep in my heart, I still
believe we shall overcome.

Many in the Black community have experienced a natural traumatic or life-threatening
event. Usually, the stress is temporary and
subsides as the traumatic event is maintained
or eliminated. PTSD is the acronym for Post
Traumatic Stress Syndrome. For veterans, it
often occurs in conjunction with other ailments like depression, substance abuse, memory and cognition problems, and other
physical and mental stressors, which occurs in
combat.
It was five years after the end of the Vietnam War that the term was finally recognized
as a mental health stressor, and first appeared
in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders, commonly referred to as
DSM-IV. For veterans in combat war zones,
in particular, stressful traumatic events may
include hyper-vigilance for long periods of
time, participating in combat on a regular
basis, military sexual assault, and being
wounded. Recently, a Vietnam veteran was
compensated for PTSD because of traumatic stress
from having to fight two wars in Vietnam, namely, the
Viet Cong on the battle field, and racism in the base
camps of Army units.
WHO GETS IT?
Anyone can experience PTSD symptoms after being
exposed to a traumatic event. It is a normal reaction to
a horrific event, like combat, domestic violence, and
many similar horrific situations. There is no way to
predict who will and who will not develop PTSD
symptoms. It depends on how individuals perceive a
situation and their other past experiences. Current re-

Often during deployments, the service members’
families have had to get along without them, so when
they come home they feel out of place, and not needed.
Military reunions are glamorized in the media, but are
often stressful after the cameras are gone. When PTSD
symptoms have led to violence in the home, another
generation of PTSD sufferers has been created. Family
counseling is always recommended when a person has
been diagnosed with PTSD.
MILITARY SEXUAL TRAUMA
Sexual assault includes rape, nonconsensual sodomy,
inappropriate sexual contact. Both men and women
have experienced sexual assault while serving in the
military. Service members are faced with issues of betrayal, role identification (soldier/victim) and loyalty to
their service after being assaulted. This can be more
difficult if the rape occurred in a combat zone and the
assailant is anonymous. Sexual assault is a crime and
needs to be reported. Call the Sexual Response Coordinator, 800-342-9647.
HOW TO FILE A CLAIM
If your PTSD is related to your time in the military,
you might be eligible for service-connected disability
compensation, especially if you were in a combat zone
of any war. You should contact any veterans service
center or organization in your area. You will need your
DD214 and other military. Go to the VA Medical Center for an examination, or to see a private physician.
Then go to the VA Regional Office and file your claim
for service-connected disability.

On The Wings of an Eagle
The documentary on the life of Dr. Edward Robinson, the
father of African and African American history, will re-air its
second time, during Black History Month, Saturday February 7 at 1 p.m. on the CW Philly.
Titled, “On the Wings of an Eagle,” the one-hour production chronicles the life of the late Dr. Edward Robinson, a
lawyer, historian, author and educator who believed that
many African Americans feel lost and undervalued because
they have little understanding of their history. “Most African
Americans really think of Africa as a taint — a place they
don’t even want to relate to.”
Award-winning producer Bob Lott is the force behind the
documentary, which highlights Robinson’s philosophy and
curriculum on African American history.
“His teaching of the beauty and grandeur of what Africa
used to be before we were all taken and brought here, it
changes the minds of youth to where they are more successful
– they make a determination that they are somebody and that
they are going to be somebody.”

F REE D ENTAL S EALANT FOR C HILDREN
Community College of Philadelphia’s dental hygiene students
and members of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists Association
(PDHA) will provide free dental sealants to Philadelphia children
on Saturday, February 7, 10 am-2 pm, Community College of
Philadelphia’s Dental Clinic, 1800 Spring Garden Street. The program is part of PDHA’s “Sealant Saturday” statewide outreach
program to provide dental services to underserved children
throughout Pennsylvania.
Dental sealants are thin, tooth colored coverings painted-on
the chewing surfaces of the back teeth of children ages 6-16 to
help prevent dental cavities. The average cost of getting a dental
sealant is between $40-$60 per tooth, but children are getting
them for free on February 7.
Advance registration for the February 7 event is required. The
