WE ARE TAKING MORE, GIVING LESS
In the January 17, 1998 issue of the
Providence Journal-Bulletin an article was
run that was written by Clark Morphew,
religious writer for the Saint Paul (Minn.)
Pioneer Press. He writes the following from
the research of a group known as Empty
Tomb...
"...that giving to U.S. churches has not
increased sharply as our personal finances
have. In other words since 1968, your
salary has increased a heck of a lot, but
you're giving a small percentage to the
church. In 1968 the portion of income
given to the church was 3.11 percent. In
1995 the portion of income was 2.46
percent. When you think back on the past
30 years, it is easy to see what you have
done with your income. You're spending
more on yourself and less on others. You've
taken on bigger responsibilities (mortgages,
loans),
increased
your
vacation
expectations, you're probably wearing nicer
clothes and driving a fancier automobile. In
other words, many of us have increased the
amount of money we spend on just about
everything, but the church."
Can you imagine what the percentage of
giving to the church was during the most
greedy decade in the history of this nation?
Beloved Parishioners, I do not have those
statistics, but the above sobering words may
fit many of us. Yet we can make corrections
to this sad reality by placing our Church
first in our giving and by giving a generous
and honest portion of our income. As with
all things in life, our Lord Jesus gives us the
best instruction..."Give and it will be given
to you. A good measure, pressed down,
shaken together, running over, will be put
into your bosom; for with the same
measure that you give, will be the measure
given back to you." Luke 6:38
ΠΑΙΡΝΟΥΜΕ ΠΕΡΙΣΣΟΤΕΡΑ ΔΙΝΟΝΤΑΣ ΛΙΓΟΤΕΡΑ
Στο τεύχος της 17ης Ιανουαρίου 1998 του Περιοδικού
-Δελτίου Πρόνοιας δημοσιεύθηκε ένα άρθρο του
Clark Morphew, θρησκευτικού συγγραφέα του Saint
Paul (Μινεσότα) Pioneer Τύπου. Γράφει τα εξής από
την έρευνα μιας ομάδας γνωστής ως Κενός Τάφος ...
"... ότι οι εισφορές στις εκκλησίες των ΗΠΑ δεν έχει
αυξηθεί κατακόρυφα, όπως έχουν αυξηθεί τα
προσωπικά οικονομικά μας. Με άλλα λόγια, από το
1968, ο μισθός σας έχει αυξηθεί σημαντικά, αλλά
δίνετε ένα μικρό ποσοστό στην εκκλησία. Το 1968 το
τμήμα του εισοδήματος που εδίδετο στην εκκλησία

φανταχτερό αυτοκίνητο. Με άλλα λόγια, πολλοί από
εμάς έχουν αυξήσει το ποσό των χρημάτων που
ξοδεύουμε σε σχεδόν όλα τ’ άλλα, πλήν της
εκκλησίας."
Μπορείτε να φανταστείτε ποιό ήταν ποσοστό εισφοράς
στην εκκλησία κατά τη διάρκεια της πλέον άπληστης
δεκαετίας στην ιστορία αυτού του έθνους; Αγαπητό
Μέλος της Ενορίας, δεν έχω αυτά τα στατιστικά στοιχεία,
αλλά οι παραπάνω απογοητευτικές λέξεις μπορούν να
περιγράφουν πολλούς από εμάς. Ωστόσο, μπορούμε να
διορθώσουμε αυτή τη θλιβερή πραγματικότητα
τοποθετώντας την Εκκλησία μας πρώτη στην εισφορά
μας, δίνοντας ένα γενναιόδωρο και ειλικρινές μέρος του
εισοδήματός μας.. Όπως συμβαίνει με όλα τα πράγματα
στη ζωή, ο Κύριος μας Ιησούς μας δίνει την καλύτερη
οδηγία ... " δίδοτε, καὶ δοθήσεται υμίν· μέτρον καλὸν

δώσουσιν εἰς τὸν κόλπον υμών· ᾧ γὰρ μέτρῳ μετρείτε
αντιμετρηθήσεται υμίν." Λουκάς 6:38
[Διδετε με προθυμίαν εις εκείνους που έχουν ανάγκην, και θα
δοθή εις σας εκ μέρους του Θεού. Δοχείον καλόν που το
χρησιμοποιούν ως μέτρον, γεμάτον έως επάνω, στοιβαγμένον
δοχείον από το οποίον θα ξεχειλίζη το καλόν περιεχόμενόν του,
θα δώσουν εις σας. Διότι με το μέτρον και την διάθεσίν που
προσφέρετε τας ευργεσίας σας στους άλλους, με το ίδιον μέτρον
θα ανταποδοθή και εις σας από τον Θεόν”].
The President’s Message

Οικογένεια της Αγίας Τριάδας,
The Ecclesiastical Year has brought us back together and I
thank all of you for your support of the Welcome Back
Picnic. Our ministries and groups are off and running with
various activities. Please take a look at the Church calendar
and enclosed announcements for the Hope/Joy Hayride
(October 3rd), the Philoptochos Bid-N-Buy (October 24th),
Holy Trinity 8th Annual Golf Outing (Friday, October 16th).
I implore all of you to take the time to review the
materials in this Bulletin with respect to our Capital
Campaign to Preserve our Church. There is a detailed
overview of some of the structural issues facing our
Church building. Although nothing is crumbling to the
ground, our Church building is in need of immediate,
more lasting, structural repairs as opposed to short-term
fixes. As you know, the front of the church (the wall
facing Broom Street above the front doors) was recently
refurbished. The remaining church walls require the
same attention and, most important, the large bell tower
is in dire need of structural reinforcement as well as
brick refurbishment and waterproofing. Our community
is strong and our commitment to our church even
stronger. I am confident that we have the resources to
meet this challenge and fix our Spiritual Home. It is our
obligation. Please review the materials, read the letter
and make your Gift to the Capital Campaign for this
much needed repair work. We should address the Bell
Tower this coming Spring that will require 40% of the
overall Campaign goal. Every gift for every brick!
With the end of summer, we are also fortunate to see the
return of families from vacation and the church filled
with Sunday School students. This year, we welcome
two new teachers, Evie Zerefos-Coates and Steve
Turley. Evie is new to teaching and Steve returns after a
short break. We welcome them both and we are blessed
to have such a strong contingent of qualified and
dedicated instructors. They all give tremendously with
their time and patience to one of the most important
ministries of our Church. Please, do your part, and bring
your children to Church in a timely and regular manner.
Keep in mind, Stewardship Sunday is approaching quickly
and you should have your 2016 Pledge Card shortly. You
do not need to pay your Pledge for 2016 by that date but
your card should be submitted. Stewardship Sunday is our
day to bring attention to the role of Stewardship in the
parish and recognize and be grateful for the pledges of our
community members for the upcoming year.
Finally, I would like to extend the Community's
congratulations and appreciation in acknowledging the 25th
anniversary of Anthony Pantelopulos' choir direction. He
has been an integral part of our services for a quarter of a
century, directing and organizing our choir. Take the time
to thank him for his time and dedication.
Το Εκκλησιαστικό Έτος μας έφερε κοντά πάλι και θα ήθελα να
ευχαριστήσω όλους εσάς για την υποστήριξή σας για το πικ-νικ
Καλωσορίσματος. Οι Υπηρεσίες και οι ομάδες μας λειτουργούν
με διάφορες δραστηριότητες. Παρακαλώ ρίξτε μια ματιά στο
ημερολόγιοτης Εκκλησίας και περικλείεται ανακοινώσεις για
την Ελπίδα/Χαρά Hayride (3 Οκτωβρίου), η Δημοπρασία
Φιλόπτωχου (24 Οκτωβρίου), το 8ο Ετήσιο Τούρναμεντ Γκολφ
της Αγίας Τριάδος (Παρασκευή 16 Οκτωβρίου).
Σας προτρέπω να προσπαθήσετε να εξετάσετε το περιεχόμενο
αυτού του Δελτίου σχετικά με την εκστρατεία μας για κεφάλαια
για τη Διατήρηση της Εκκλησίας μας. Υπάρχει λεπτομερής
αναφορά ορισμένων δομικών προβλημάτων του κτιρίου της
Εκκλησία. Αν και τίποτα δεν καταπίπτει στο έδαφος, το κτίριο
της Εκκλησίας έχει ανάγκη από άμεσες, μακράς διαρκείας,
δομικές επισκευές, σε αντίθεση με τις βραχυπρόθεσμες
επιδιορθώσεις. Όπως γνωρίζετε, το μπροστινό μέρος του ναού
που βλέπει στον Broom Street υπεράνω των μπροστινών θυρών)
ανακαινίστηκε πρόσφατα. Οι υπόλοιποι τοίχοι της εκκλησίας
απαιτούν την ίδια προσοχή και, το πιο σημαντικό, το μεγάλο
καμπαναριό έχει απόλυτη ανάγκη δομικής ενίσχυσης, καθώς
επισης και την ανακαίνιση της τοιχοποιίας και στεγανοποίηση.
Η κοινότητά μας είναι ισχυρή και η δέσμευσή μας στην
εκκλησία μας ακόμα ισχυρώτερη. Είμαι πεπεισμένος ότι έχουμε
τους πόρους για να αντιμετωπίσει αυτήν την πρόκληση και να
επιδιορθώσουμε την Πνευματική μας Οικία. Είναι υποχρέωσή
μας. Παρακαλώ εξετάστε τα δεδομένα, διαβάστε την επιστολή
και δώστε την προσφορά σας στην Εκστρατεία Κεφαλαίου για
αυτές το τόσο αναγκαίες εργασίες επισκευής. Θα πρέπει να
αντιμετωπίσουμε το καμπαναριό του την ερχόμενη άνοιξη που
θα απαιτήσει το 40% του συνολικού στόχου της εκστρατείας.
Κάθε δώρο για κάθε τούβλο!
Με το τέλος του καλοκαιριού, είμαστε επίσης τυχεροί να δούμε
την επιστροφή των οικογενειών από τις διακοπές και την
εκκλησία γεμάτη με μαθητέςτου
Κατηχητικού Σχολείου.
Εφέτος, καλωσορίζουμε δύο νέους εκπαιδευτικούς, την Εύη
Ζερεφού-Coates και τον Steve Turley. Η Εύη είναι νέα στη
διδασκαλία και ο Steve επιστρέφει μετά από ένα σύντομο
διάλειμμα. Καλωσορίζουμε και τους δύο και είμαστε
ευλογημένοι που έχουμε εξαιρετικό προσωπικό και
αφιερωμένους εκπαιδευτές. Όλοι αφιερώνουν πολύ χρόνο και
υπομονή τους σε ένα από τις πιο σημαντιές υπηρεσίες της
Εκκλησίας μας. Παρακαλώ, να φέρετε τα παιδιά σας στην
Εκκλησία εγκαίτως και τακτιά
Μην ξεχνάτε, ότι η Κυριακή Διαχείρισεως πλησιάζει γρήγορα
και θα πρέπη να έχετε την κάρτα εισφοράς 2016 εγκαίρως. Δεν
χρειάζεται να πληρώσετε την εισφορά σας του 2016 την εν λόγω
ημερομηνία, αλλά να υποβάλλετε την κάρτα σας. Η Κυριακή
Διαχειρίσεως είναι ημέρα που εφιστούμε την προσοχή μας στον
ρόλο της διαχείρισης της ενορίας κα αναγνωρίζουμε ότι είμαστε
ευγνώμονες για τις εισφορές των μελών της κοινότητας μας για
τον επόμενο χρόνο.
Τέλος, θα ήθελα να εκφράσω τα συγχαρητήριά και την εκτίμησή
της Κοινότητας για την 25η επέτειο του Αντώνη Παντελόπουλου
ως διευθυντής της χορωδίας. Υπήρξε ένα αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι
των υπηρεσιών μας για ένα τέταρτο του αιώνα, διοικόντας και
οργανώνοντας την χορωδία μας. Σας προτρέπω να τον
ευχαριστήσετε για το χρόνο και την αφοσίωσή του.

-St. ElpidaIs there still a need to feed the hungry in our neighborhood?
According to national statistics and the demand for meals by unfortunate people in our neighborhoods, the
reply is a resounding Yes! Not only there still is a need, but it appears that the demand for food has increased
over time.
The St. Elpida group , has unceasingly for the past 15 years on the 30th of each month, thanks to the
generosity of the Holy Trinity parishioners, has been purchasing food, cooks and serves nutritious meals to
an average of 550 people who gather every day at noon at the Emmanuel Dining Room.
The Emmanuel Dining Room helps alleviate the immediate needs of Delaware’s hungry with nutritious
meals served at no cost and with no questions asked. The program operates at three locations in economically
depressed areas of Wilmington and New Castle, Delaware.
Our St. Elpida group serves those who come to receive a meal at the Second and Jackson Streets facility of
the Emmanuel Dining Room. The faithful ongoing support by members of nearly 100 churches, synagogues,
businesses, and civic groups prepare and serve meals on a rotating basis.
Every day of the year, guests of Emmanuel Dining Room are seated in a clean, cheerful dining room and are
served a nutritious meal in restaurant fashion. All who come through its doors are warmly welcomed.
The St. Elpida group, has a good history being supported by your donations which have kept us able to
purchase, prepare and serve meals for the last 15 years. Unfortunately, the ever increasing cost of food,
makes it necessary at this time to ask for your kind help, in order that we continue this God blessed and
important tradition of our church, in support of our less fortunate brethren.

September 12th at the Emmanuel Dining Room East
Saturday, September 12th marked a very special day for us at the Emmanuel Dining Room. The meal
that day was given in honor of our group of women who initiated the charitable outreach to this
dining room 35 years ago, providing and serving the luncheon meal on the 12th of every month since
then. We recognize and make special mention of one of these women, Mary Manolakis. Mary
faithfully served and generously sponsored this dining room every September for most of those 35
years! We thank Mary for her many, many years of giving and we send her our very best. We
sincerely thank this group of women for their leadership, inspiration, and continued commitment and
support to this dining room! Over 140 men, women and children enjoyed a warm meal that day. Tina
Ganiaris and Johanna Laskaris hosted the day and worked the kitchen. Eirini Staikos and family
will sponsor the meal in October, on Monday the 12th, in loving memory of her father. All are
welcome to join them that day and on the 12th of every month. We greatly appreciate all who
generously serve and give to this charitable cause!

Funerals:
Costas “Gus” Burpulis fell asleep in the Lord on July 17th and his funeral was held at Holy Trinity
on July 22nd. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Maria, his son Stamatis, his daughter Eugenia
Hann, his brother John Burpulis and his wife Mary, grandchildren, Chris and Amber Hann, Maria
and Sean Brown and his great grandchildren Trevor & Tyler Hann and Logan & Elena Brown.

Christopher Caras fell asleep in the Lord on August 28th. His funeral was held at Holy Trinity on

15 Αυγούστου τού 1940. Ενώ οί Έλληνες εόρτaζaν τήν ημέρα τής Κοιμήσεως τής Θεοτόκου ένα
Ιταλικό υποβρύχιο εβύθισε τό αντιτορπιλλικό Έλλη στό λιμάνι τής νήσου Τήνου χωρίς καμμιά
προειδοποίηση. Αυτό ήταν τό προεόρτιο τής επιθέσεως τής φασιστικής τότε Ιταλίας, συμμάχου τής
ναζιστικής Γερμανίας, εναντίον τής Ελλάδος. Η υπόλοιπη Δυτική Ευρώπη, πλήν τής Σουηδίας καί
Φιλανδίας, ουσιαστικών συμμάχων τής Γερμανίας, τής Μ. Βρεττανίας, τής Ισπανίας καί τής Ελβετίας,
ευρίσκεται ήδη κάτω από τόν Γερμανικό ζυγό. Η Τουρκία εκράτησε ουδέτερη στάση μέχρι 10 ημέρες
πρίν τό τέλος τού Δευτέρου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου οπότε επήγε μέ τούς συμμάχους.
Στίς 3 τό πρωί τής 28ης Οκτώβριου τού 1940. ο πρεσβευτής τής Ιταλίας στήν Αθήνα έδωσε τελεσίγραφο
τής κυβερνήσεώς του στόν πρωθυπουργό τής Ελλάδος Ιωάννη Μεταξά νά αφήση τά Ιταλικά στρατεύματα
νά περάσουν από τήν Ελλάδα, μέ προορισμό τήν Μέση Ανατολή. Τά πετρέλαια τής Μέσης Ανατολής ήταν
απαραίτητα γιά τήν Γερμανία καί τήν Ιταλία πού δέν διέθεταν πηγές ενεργείας. Ο πρωθυπουργός τής
Ελλάδος απάντησε στό τελεσίγραφο μέ ένα “ΟΧΙ”. Ο δικτάτορας τής Ιταλίας Μουσολίνι είχε απειλήσει ότι
θά καταλάβη τήν Ελλάδα στέλνοντας 8 εκατομύρια ξιφολόγχες, όσος καί ο πληθυσμός τής Ελλάδος. Στίς 5
τό πρωί τής 28ης Οκτώβριου, δύο μόλις ώρες μετά τό τελεσίγραφο, τά Ιταλικά στρατεύματα άρχισαν τήν
επιθεσή τους κατά τής Ελλάδος στά Ελληνοαλβανικά σύνορα. Τά πρώτα ανακοινωθέντα τού ραδιοφωνικού
σταθμού Αθηνών από τό μέτωπο έλεγαν απλά κάι λιτά ότι τά Ελληνικά στρατεύματα υπερασπίζονται τό
πάτριο έδαφος. Ο Ελληνικός λαός σύσσωμος, μέ ενθουσιασμό αντάξιο τών προγόνων του ανταποκρίθηκε
στό κάλεσμα στά όπλα. Μέ κάθε μέσον προωθήθηκαν οι στρατιώτες στά σύνορα. Οί Ελληνίδες γυναίκες,
σάν άλλες Σπαρτιάτισες, κατευώδωναν τούς συζύγους, υίους καί αδελφούς τους, μέ τήν ευχή νά
επιστρέψουν νικητές.
Η Ιταλία διέθετε στρατιωτική υπεροπλία σέ όλους τούς τομείς. Η Ελλάδα σέ αντίθεση είχε μέν πολύ
λιγότερο στρατό καί πολεμικά υλικά αλλά ένα λαό αποφασισμένο νά πεθάνη γιά τήν ελευθερία καί
ανεξαρτησία του. Όταν ένας λαός έχει αποφασίσει νά πεθάνη γιά τήν ελευθερία του τότε κερδίζει. Οί
Έλληνες κατώρθωσαν μέσα σέ λίγες μόνο ημέρες νά περάσουν στήν αντεπίθεση. Ονόματα πόλεων όπως
Σαραντάπορο, Τεπελένι, Αργυρόκαστρο καί Άγιοι Σαράντα είναι συνυφασμένα μέ τό έπος τών Ελλήνων
στόν Ελληνοιταλικό πόλεμο τού 1940. Τά βουνά τής Ηπείρου καί τής Βορείου Ηπείρου έγιναν ο τάφος τών
Ιταλών. Ο ηρωϊσμός τών Ελλήνων ξεπέρασε κάθε όριο. Μέσα σέ έξη μήνες, παρ’ όλες τίς προσπάθειες τών
Ιταλών καί τού ίδιου τού Μουσολίνι προσωπικά, οί Έλληνες είχαν απωθήσει τού Ιταλούς μέσα στήν
Αλβανία. Παρ’ ολίγο νά τούς πετάξουν στήν Αδριατική θάλασσα.
Η νίκη τών Ελλήνων ήταν η πρώτη συμμαχική νίκη τού Δευτέρου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Ο Winston
Churchill, ο μετέπειτα ωνομασθής Πατέρας τής Νίκης, είχε ειπεί θαυμάζοντας τούς Ελλήνες γιά τίς νίκες
τους ότι “από τώρα καί εμπρός δέν θά λέμε ότι οί Έλληνες πολεμούν σάν ήρωες αλλά ότι οί ήρωες
πολεμούν σάν Έλληνες”.
Στόν ηρωϊκό αυτόν αγώνα η συνεισφορά τών γυναικών ήταν μεγαλειώδης. Έστελναν δέματα μέ
τρόφιμα καί ρούχα πού έπλεκαν οί ίδιες στούς Έλληνες στρατιώτες. Καί όχι μόνο αυτό. Οί ηρωϊκές
Ηπειρώτισες, άξιες απόγονοι τών Σουλιωτισών, κουβαλούσανε στήν πλάτη τους, πάνω στά χιονισμένα
βουνά τής Ηπείρου, μέσα στήν λασπη καί στό κρύο, πολεμοφόδια καί τρόφιμα στούς στρατιώτες πού
πολεμούσαν στό μέτωπο.
Η νίκη τών Ελλήνων κατά τών Ιταλών το 1940 καθυστέρησε τήν επίθεση τού Χίτλερ κατά τής Ρωσίας
κατά έξη μήνες. Αποτέλεσμα αυτής τής καθυστερήσεως ήταν ότι οι Γερμανοί αντιμετώπησαν τούς Ρώσους
μέσα στόν βαρύ Ρωσικό χειμώνα μέ καταστροφικά αποτελέσματα γιά αυτούς. Το κόστος όμως τού
Ελληνοιταλικού πολέμου, τής Γερμανικής κατοχής καί τού εμφυλίου πολέμου πού ακολούθησαν ήταν
δυσανάλογα βαρύ γιά τήν Ελλάδα. Μέσα σέ δέκα χρόνια υπήρξαν, σέ σύνολικό πληθυσμό οκτώ
εκατομμυρίων, ένα εκατομμύριο νεκροί Έλληνες, πολύ ανάπηροι καί μιά χώρα τελείως κατεστραμμένη. Τό
τίμημά πού επλήρωσε η Ελλάδα γιά τήν ελευθερία της ήταν πολύ βαρύ. ‘Ας είναι αιωνία η μνήμη τών
νεκρών αδελφών μας.
Παρ’ όλες τις καταστροφές που υπέστη η χώρα στην δεκαετία 1940-1950, η Ελλάδα μετά από μόνο 65
χρόνια, χάρις στην εργατικότητα των Ελλήνων και Ελληνίδων, και την συνεχή συνεισφορά της Διασπορά
της στην οικονομία της, συγκαταλέγεται σήμερα ανάμεσα στις 40 πλουσιώτερες χώρες του κόσμου.

15th August, 1940. While the Hellenes were observing the Dormition of Virgin Mary, an Italian
submarine, without any warning sank the Greek torpedo destroyer Elli, which was docked in the harbor of
the island of Tenos. This was the prelude of the attack against Greece of the fascistic Italy, ally of the
nazi Germany. The rest of the Western Europe, except for Sweden and Finland, who were allies of
Germans, and Great Britain, Spain and Switzerland, was under the German yoke. Turkey was and
remained neutral until 10 days before the end of the Second World War at which time it joined the
allied forces.
At 3 o’clock in the morning of 28th October, 1940, the ambassador of Italy in Athens gave an ultimatum
to the prime minister of Greece, Ioannis Metaxas, demanding permission for the Italian army to go
through Greece on its way to Middle East. The Middle East oil was necessary for both Italy and Germany
because they did not have sufficient energy resources. Greece’s prime minister answer was
“NO” (“OXI”). Italy’s dictator Mussolini threatened to send 8 million bayonets, one for each Hellene, to
occupy Hellas. Only two hours after the ultimatum to the prime minister, the Italian troops attacked
Hellas: from its borders with Albania at 5 o’clock in the morning of 28th October, 1940. The state radio
of Athens announced in a laconic way that the Hellenic troops are defending the motherland. The Greek
people, worthy of their glorious ancestors, responded enthusiastically to the mobilization to defend their
country. They went to the front with all possible means. The Greek women, like the ancient Spartans
mothers, were saying good-bye to their beloved husbands, sons and brothers and urging them to return
home victorious.
Italy was militarily superior to Greece. It had a much bigger army, superior air force and advanced
weapons. In contrast, Greece’s main weapon was the decisiveness of its people to die for their freedom
and independence. The prerequisite for winning a war is people not to hesitate to die for their freedom.
The Hellenes, in a few days after the sudden attack, counterattacked successfully. Names of towns like
Sarantaporo, Tepeleni, Argyrokastro and Hagioi Saranta always remind us of the heroism and triumph of
the Hellenes in the Greco-Italian war of 1940. The mountains of Epiros and of Northern Epiros became
the grave for the attacking Italians. Within six months, despite the efforts of the Italians and Mussolini’s
personal efforts, the Hellenes had pushed the Italians well within Albania. They almost threw them in the
Adriatic sea.
The victory of Hellenes was the first victory of the allies of the Second World War. Winston
Churchill, who afterwards was called the Father of The Victory, said in admiring the Hellenes for their
victories, that “from now on we will not say that the Hellenes fight like heroes but the heroes fight
like the Hellenes”.
The contribution of the Greek women in the war was tremendous. They were sending packages with
food and clothes which they had themselves knitted for the fighting soldiers. In addition, the heroic
women of Epiros, worthy descendants of the women of Souli, walking in the mud of the snowed
mountains of Epiros, were carrying ammunition and food for the soldiers on their shoulders.
The victory of the Hellenes against the Italians delayed the Hitler’s attack to Russia for six months. This
delay forced the Germans to fight the Russians during the heavy Russian winter of 1942 with disastrous
for them results. However, the cost of the Greco-Italian war, the German occupation that followed and
the civil war were disproportionally heavy for Greece. From 1940-1950, out of 8 million Greeks there
were one million dead, many wounded handicapped people, a completely destroyed country, and created
seven hundred thousand refuges. The price Hellas paid for its independence was very heavy. Let their
example inspire us to always raise our voice and our sword in defense of liberty and justice. Let the
memory of the fallen brothers of ours stay with us eternally.
Despite all the destruction Greece suffered during the decade 1940-1950, after only 65 years, thanks to
the industriousness of Greek men and Greek women, and the continuous contribution of Diaspora in her
economy, Greece ranks today among the 40 richest countries of the world.

An article appeared in the News Journal from the Lutheran
Community Services stating that “It’s seeing huge numbers at its
Food Pantries, particularly at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church at 13th
& Broom Streets, where as many as 180 families a day are seeking
food.”
Our parishioners will be pleased to know that Holy Trinity has been
delivering food to St. Stephen’s for over 11 years and that we have
been an important part in their food program. Only with your
continued participation can Holy Trinity continue this mission.
Please continue to share your blessings with the less fortunate - who
are increasing daily. Drop off any non-perishable food anytime you
come to church or during office hours - 9am-4:30pm.

Soups, fish, vegetables, meat, fruit, (any canned item), cereals, sugar, rice, pasta, Jellies,
Peanut Butter, Pasta Sauces, Mac & Cheese, baby food, coffee, tea, gravies, flour, sugar, etc.

There are three drop-off locations for your convenience: one by the church office,
one in the Narthex and one on the balcony in the hall.

Saint Gerasimos of Cephalonia / October 20
Reading:
Saint Gerasimus was from the Peloponnesus, the son of Demetrius
and Kale, of the family of Notaras. He was reared in piety by them
and studied the Sacred writings. He left his country and went
throughout various lands, and finally came to Cephalonia, where he
restored a certain old church and built a convent around it, where it
stands to this day at the place called Omala. He finished the course
of his life there in asceticism in the year 1570. His sacred relics,
which remain incorrupt, are kept there for the sanctification of the
faithful.

O believers, let us praise the protector of the Orthodox, The Godbearing miracle-worker lately appearing to us, the incarnate angel,
divine Gerasimos. For he has rightly received from God the ever-flowing grace of performing
healing. He strengthens those with diseases and he heals those with demons. And therefore
he pours out healings to those who honor him.

Reading:
This Martyr was in the service of Pontius Pilate at the time of
Christ our Saviour's Passion. While standing guard at the Cross
and beholding the earthquake and all that came to pass, he cried
out with fear, "Truly this was the Son of God" (Matt. 27:54). After
the Resurrection, he forsook the military and departed for
Cappadocia, his homeland, where he preached Christ. By the
agency of Pontius Pilate, Tiberius Caesar had him arrested and
beheaded.

Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received
the prize of the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our
immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly

Re:Holy Trinity Capital Campaign
Preserving and Restoring Our Beautiful Church
Dear Fellow Parishioners:
We write to you regarding a matter of critical importance: the structural preservation of our church. Our church
was constructed sixty-five years ago. Over the years, it has become a landmark of the City of Wilmington. It is a
beautiful building that we all love dearly.
The urgent problem that we all now face, as a community, is that our beloved church building has begun to decay
– and decay quickly. It is not an exaggeration to state that the building has, literally, begun to fall apart. In recent
years, masonry deterioration and water infiltration have started to accelerate significantly. With each year the
situation grows increasingly dire, and we have reached the point where large-scale intervention can no longer be
postponed. It is absolutely essential that we, as a community, take significant steps without further delay.
In 2014, the Parish Council retained various professional firms to investigate fully and report upon the extent of the
most urgent structural problems. Those reports are available for your review in the church office. We detail several
of the findings below.
Taken together, the reports are abundantly clear. The church is at a critical juncture. Significant intervention is
needed now if the accelerating problems are to be stemmed and the church preserved for the long term. The first
phase of the restoration has been completed (front of church) but the majority of the work remains to be done. The
next phase in early 2016 will involve necessary refurbishment of the large northwest bell tower. There will be
subsequent phases, as well as the need for significant funds to appropriately preserve and maintain the church
structure into the future.
To this end, our community will be embarking on a $1 million capital campaign to establish a permanent fund for
the immediate restoration and long term preservation of the church. We have studied the requirements closely, and it
is our considered view that $1 million is the sum necessary to put our church on proper footing and ensure its long
term future. With the critical next phase set to begin in early 2016, we will need to raise at least half of the $1
million over the next six months.
We recognize that it will not be easy to achieve this goal. At the same time, we are fully optimistic that this goal
can and will be met. Our parish is large and vigorous. It is full of energetic and successful parishioners, who have
repeatedly answered the call when we have faced challenges. We believe this instance will be no different. With
your help, our beautiful church will be fully restored, and preserved for our children and grandchildren.
Structural Problems.
Structural problems identified include the following:
1. Unsafe Conditions: Several areas of the exterior masonry “could rapidly deteriorate into [unsafe conditions]
depending on their location above pedestrian areas and length of time to repair.” In particular, deteriorating
brick below the precast could soon cause spalls (pieces) to fall from the building down onto the pedestrian
areas. Needless to say, the possibility of falling bricks, or pieces thereof, is extremely hazardous and not an
acceptable situation.
2. Brick Veneer. The brick veneer was found to be in declining condition, with a growing array of problems
that come with age. Much of the brick veneer is cracked or chipping. The brick mortar joints are in “fair to poor
condition,” with “several areas of failed mortar joints.” Many mortar joints are “cracked, debonded from the
brick, or were missing.” The mortar joints have ceased to sufficiently keep out rainwater, which has caused the
rate of corrosion to accelerate.
3. Northwest Bell Tower. Numerous problems were observed at the church’s 70-foot bell tower. Broken and
displaced brick was noted in several locations. Water staining and efflorescence is present on both the interior
and exterior of the tower. At one previously-repaired area, the supplemental anchors that had been added “were
heavily corroded and the masonry was not solid, reducing the anchors’ ability to resist lateral movement.” The
mortar joints on the tower are “generally in poor condition, with many areas of missing and cracked mortar.”
Certain areas of the tower were selected for closer examination of structural condition, and close inspection
“found that the majority of those areas were unsound, indicating widespread loss of bond between brick and
mortar.” Also with respect to the tower, “It appears that years of excessive water infiltration has caused
significant deterioration of the masonry, and while repairs were attempted, they addressed the effects of the
problems and not the cause.” Overall, the tower is in marginal to fair structural condition with evidence of water
intrusion that has led to corrosion of the steel framing supporting the tower. Fortunately, the steel can be
refurbished in place and compromised cinder block can be stabilized with carbon fiber or steel reinforcing.
4. Leaks: Ongoing leaks continue to be a problem in various locations. Several were reported below the main
dome, although these have stopped since the dome was recapped. Significant staining and deterioration was
noted at the large bell tower.
5. Flashing: The church lacks sufficient flashing (weatherproofing) in several key locations, such as portions of
the parapet, at certain windows, and in the multiple areas where the roof interfaced with a rising wall. This has
exposed the structure to excessive amounts of moisture over time, which has led to increased corrosion. The
lack of adequate flashing at the rising walls has permitted water to penetrate the exterior walls and reach the
interior of the building.
6. Sealants: The existing sealants at the perimeter of the windows and doors are “cracked, hardened, split open, debonded,
squeezed-out, and generally deteriorated.” “Many openings were wide enough to easily allow water to pass.”
7. Southwest Tower. Like the northwest tower, the brick of the southwest tower is increasingly broken and
displaced. The southwest tower also suffers from significant water infiltration, although “not in the mass
quantities observed at the northwest tower.”
8. Deterioration of Short Term Repairs. Several repair projects conducted over the years have been short term
in nature, and are beginning themselves to deteriorate. This is particularly true of new sections of brick veneer,
where the brick was simply replaced without addressing the underlying causes of deterioration.
Capital Campaign.
To address these urgent problems, our community will commence a major capital campaign for the immediate
repair and preservation of the church. The goal of the campaign is to raise $1 million over the next two years for a
specially-designated capital fund, with at least half of that amount critically needed within the next six months.
Much of the fund will be used to pay for the urgent repairs that are needed today, with the remaining balance (if
any) set aside for the repairs and preservation needs of the future. With the Lord’s help, the fund will continue to
grow after our initial $1 million campaign, and will evolve into a significant capital endowment that will secure the
structural health of the church for future generations.
Because of the size and the urgency of this challenge, we will need as much of a contribution over the next two
years as you can provide. The ultimate decision of how much to donate clearly is a personal choice. All
contributions, large and small, will be welcome and we hope that each and every parishioner will participate in this
collective effort to preserve our church. But to meet our goal, it will be necessary for the clear majority of Holy
Trinity families to contribute to this campaign, and many if not most of them will have to make contributions that,
over two years, exceed $5,000. A contribution of $2,500 per year might be challenging, but it is what is necessary
to raise enough money in time. To express our gratitude, we anticipate creating a plaque for our community center
that proudly acknowledges each and every donor.
Finally, please remember that the daily operating needs of our church are still dependent on your ongoing and
generous stewardship and therefore, while the capital campaign funds will be dedicated solely to this project, your
commitment to maintain simultaneously your stewardship is vital to the church’s financial health.

renovations, funds raised, and personal contacts to as many of you as we can. But of course the sooner funds are

ΘΕΜΑ: Εκστρατεία Κεφααίου της Αγίας Τριάδος
Διατήρησις και αποκατάστασις της Όμορφης Εκκλησίαw μας
Αγαπητά Μέλη της Κοινότητας:
Σας γράφουμε σχετικά με ένα ζήτημα υψίστης σημασίας: η δομική συντήρησις της εκκλησίας μας. Η εκκλησία μας
κατασκευάστηκε πριν εξήντα πέντε χρόνια. Με την πάροδο των ετών, έχει γίνει ένα ορόσημο της πόλης του Wilmington. Είναι
ένα όμορφο κτίριο το οποίον όλοι αγαπάμε πάρα πολύ.
Το επείγον πρόβλημα που όλοι αντιμετωπίζουμε τώρα, ως κοινότητα, είναι ότι το αγαπημένο κτίριο της εκκλησίας μας έχει
αρχίσει να φθείρεται - και φθείρεται γρήγορα. Δεν είναι υπερβολή να πή κανείς ότι το κτίριο έχει, κυριολεκτικά άρχισει να
καταρρέη. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, η επιδείνωση της τοιχοποιίας και η διήθηση του νερού έχουν αρχίσει να επιταχύνωνται
σημαντικά. Κάθε έτος, η κατάσταση επιδεινώνεται όλο και περισσότερο, και έχουμε φτάσει στο σημείο όπου μεγάλης
κλίμακας παρέμβασις δεν μπορεί πλέον να αναβληθή. Είναι απολύτως απαραίτητο ότι εμείς, ως κοινότητα, να λάβουμε
σημαντικά μέτρα χωρίς περαιτέρω καθυστέρηση.
Το 2014, το Συμβούλιο της Κοινότητας προσέγγισε διάφορες επαγγελματικές εταιρείες να διερευνήσουν πλήρως και
υποβάλλουν έκθεση σχετικά με την έκταση των πιο επειγόντων κατασκευαστικών προβλημάτων. Οι εκθέσεις αυτές είναι στην
διάθεσή σας στο γραφείο της εκκλησίας. Παραθέτουμε λεπτομερώς αρκετά από τα ευρήματα παρακάτω.
Στο σύνολό τους, οι εκθέσεις είναι απολύτως σαφείς. Η εκκλησία βρίσκεται σε ένα κρίσιμο σταυροδρόμι. Σημαντική
παρέμβαση απαιτείται τώρα, εάν τα επιταχυνόμενα προβλήματα πρόκειται να σταματήσουν και η εκκλησία να συντηρηθή
μακροπρόθεσμα. Η πρώτη φάση της αποκαταστάσεως έχει ολοκληρωθεί (στο εμπρόσθιο μέρος της εκκλησίας), αλλά το
μεγαλύτερο μέρος της εργασίας απομένει να ολοκληρωθή. Η επόμενη φάση στις αρχές του 2016 θα περιλαμβάνη την
απαραίτητη ανακαίνιση του μεγάλου βορειοδυτικού καμπαναριού. Θα υπάρξουν επόμενες φάσεις, καθώς επίσης και ανάγκη
ανευρέσεως σημαντικών κονδυλίων για την κατάλληλη διαφύλαξη και συντήρηση της κατασκευής της εκκλησίας στο
μέλλον.
Για το σκοπό αυτό, η κοινότητά μας θα ξεκινήση μια εκστρατεία συλλογής κεφαλαίου ενός (1) εκατομμυρίου δολλαρίων
για τη δημιουργία μόνιμης χρηματοδοτήσεως για την άμεση αποκατάσταση και τη μακροπρόθεσμη διατήρηση της εκκλησίας.
Έχουμε μελετήσει προσεκτικά τις απαιτήσεις, και η εμπεριστατωμένη άποψή μας είναι ότι ένα εκατομμύριο δολλάρια είναι
το ποσό που απαιτείται για την ορθή αντιμετώπιση των αναγκών της εκκλησίας μας ώστε να διασφαλίσουμε μακροπρόθεσμα
το μέλλον της. Για την κρίσιμη επόμενη φάση που προβλέπεται να αρχίση στις αρχές του 2016, θα πρέπη να συγκεντρώσουμε
τουλάχιστον το ήμισυ του ενός εκατομμυρίου δολλαρίων στους επόμενους έξι μήνες.
Αναγνωρίζουμε ότι δεν θα είναι εύκολο να επιτευχθή αυτός ο στόχος. Όμως, ταυτοχρόνως, είμαστε απόλυτα αισιόδοξοι
ότι ο στόχος αυτός μπορεί και θα επιτευχθή. Η ενορία μας είναι μεγάλη και δραστήρια. Είναι γεμάτη ενεργητικά και
επιτυχημένα μέλη, τα οποία έχουν επανειλημμένα ανταποκριθεί στο κάλεσμα όταν είχαμε να αντιμετωπίσουμε προκλήσεις.
Πιστεύουμε ότι και αυτή η περίπτωση δεν θα είναι διαφορετική. Με τη βοήθειά σας, η όμορφη εκκλησία μας θα
αποκατασταθή πλήρως, και θα διατηρηθή για τα παιδιά και τα εγγόνια μας.
Κατασκευαστικά προβλήματα.
Τα κατασκευαστικά προβλήματα που εντοπίστηκαν περιλαμβάνουν τα ακόλουθα:
1. Ανασφαλείς συνθήκες: Αρκετές περιοχές της εξωτερικής τοιχοποιίας "θα μπορούσαν να επιδεινωθούν ραγδαίως σε [ανασφαλείς
συνθήκες] ανάλογα με τη θέση τους πάνω από τον πεζόδρομο και το χρονικό διάστημα για την επισκευή τους." Ειδικότερα, η
καταρρέουσα τοιχοποιία κάτω από την προκατασκευή θα μπορούσε σύντομα να προκαλέση αποκολλήσεις τεμαχίων να καταπέσουν
από το κτίριο στις περιοχές πεζών. Περιττό να πούμε ότι, η πιθανότητα της πτώσεως τούβλων, ή κομμάτια τους, είναι εξαιρετικά
επικίνδυνη και δεν αποτελεί αποδεκτή κατάσταση.
2. Σοβάς τούβλων. Ο σοβάς των τούβλων επιδεινώνεται, με μια αυξανόμενη σειρά προβλημάτων λόγω παλαιώσεως. Μεγάλο μέρος
του σοβά είναι ραγισμένο ή αποφλοιωμένο. Οι ενώσεις του αμμοκονιάματος των τούβλων είναι σε "άσχημη έως κακή κατάσταση,"σε
αρκετούς τομείς με κατεστραμμένο το αμμοκονιάμα των αρμών." Το αμμοκονίαμα πολλών αρμών είναι "ραγισμένο, αποκολλημένο
από τα τούβλα, ή έλειπε." Το αμμοκονίαμα των αρθρώσεων έχει πάψει να κατακρατά επαρκώς τα όμβρια ύδατα , τα οποία έχουν
επιτυχάνει την διάβρωση.
3. Βορειοδυτικό Καμπαναριό. Πολλά προβλήματα παρατηρήθηκαν στο 70 ποδιών καμπαναριό της εκκλησίας. Σπασμένα και
μετατοπισμένα τούβλα παρατηρήθηκαν σε διάφορες περιοχές. Λεκέδες από νερό και κιτρίνισμα παρατηρούνται τόσο στο εσωτερικό
όσο και στο εξωτερικό του πύργου. Σε μία περιοχή που είχει επισκευασθεί προηγουμένως, οι συμπληρωματικές άγκυρες που είχαν
προστεθεί "ήταν σε μεγάλο βαθμό διαβρωμένες και η τοιχοποιία δεν ήταν σταθερή, μειώνοντας την ικανότητα των αγκύρων» να
αντισταθούν σε πλευρική κίνηση. "Το αμμοκονίαμα των αρμών του πύργου είναι «γενικά σε κακή κατάσταση, λείπει ή είναι
ραγισμένο σε πολλές περιοχές». "Ορισμένες περιοχές του πύργου που επιλέχθηκαν για προσεκτικώτερη εξέταση της δομικής
καταστάσεως, και στενοί επιθεώρηση" διαπίστωσε ότι η πλειοψηφία αυτών των περιοχών ήταν ανασφαλής, υποδεικνύοντας
εκτεταμένη απώλεια δεσμού μεταξύ των τούβλων και αμμοκονιάματος.» Επίσης, σχετικά με τον πύργο, "φαίνεται ότι λόγω της
χρονίας υπερβολικής διηθήσεως του νερού έχουν προκληθεί σημαντική επιδείνωση της τοιχοποιίας, και ενώ οι επισκευές που
απεπειράθηκαν αντιμετώπισαν τις συνέπειες των προβλημάτων και όχι την αιτία.» Σε γενικές γραμμές, ο πύργος είναι από οριακή έως
καλή κατάσταση με εμφανή στοιχεία της διεισδύσεως του νερού που έχει οδηγήσει στη διάβρωση του χαλύβδινου πλαισίου του που
στηρίζει τον πύργο. Ευτυχώς, ο χάλυβας μπορεί να ανακαινισθή επιτόπου και οι επικίνδυνοι τριμεντόπλιθοι μπορεί να
σταθεροποιηθούν με ίνες άνθρακα ή οπλισμό χάλυβα.
4.
Διαρροές: Συνεχιζόμενες διαρροές νερού αποτελούν πρόβλημα σε διάφορες περιοχές. Αρκετές αναφέρθηκαν κάτω από τον
κεντρικό τρούλο, αν και αυτές έχουν σταματήσει από την επισκευή του. Σημαντικοί λεκέδες και επιδείνωση σημειώθηκε στο
μεγάλο καμπαναριό.
5.
Στεγανοποίηση: Η εκκλησία δεν διαθέτει επαρκή στεγανοποίηση και μόνωση σε διάφορες θέσεις-κλειδιά, όπως σε
τμήματα του στηθαίου, σε ορισμένα παράθυρα, και στις πολλαπλές περιοχές όπου η οροφή συνδέεται με τον ανερχόμενο τοίχο.
Αυτό έχει ως αποτέλεσμα με την πάροδο του χρόνου, να εκτεθή η κατασκευή σε υπερβολική ποσότητα υγρασίας η οποία έχει
οδηγήσει σε αυξημένη διάβρωση. Η έλλειψη επαρκούς στεγανοποιήσεως στο απώτερω τμήμα των τοίχων επέτρεψε στο νερό να
εισχωρήση από τους εξωτερικούς τοίχους στο εσωτερικό του κτιρίου.
6.
Στεγανοποιητικά υλικά: Τα υφιστάμενα στεγανωποιητικά υλικά στην περίμετρο των παραθύρων και των θυρών είναι
"ραγισμένα, σκληρά, σκασμένα, αποκολλημέντα, εκχυμένα, και γενικά σε κακή κατάσταση.» «Πολλά σκασίματα ήταν αρκετά
μεγαλα ώστε το νερό να διέρχετια εύκολα".
7.
Νοτιοδυτικό Καμπαναριό. Όπως και το βορειοδυτικό καμπαναριό, τα τούβλα του νοτιοδυτικού καμπαναριού είναι είτε
σπασμένα ή λείπουν. Το νοτιοδυτικό καμπαναριό πάσχει επίσης από την σημαντική διείσδυση του νερού, αν και «όχι στο ποσοστό
που παρατηρείται στο βορειοδυτικό καμπαναριό."
8.
Επιδείνωση των βραχυπροθέσμων επισκευών. Πολλά έργα επισκευής που πραγματοποιούνται κατά τη διάρκεια των
ετών έχουν βραχυπρόθεσμο χαρακτήρα, και αρχίζουν να επιδεινώνονται. Αυτό ισχύει ιδιαίτερα για τα νέα τμήματα του σοβά,
όπου τα τούβλα είχαν απλά αντικατασταθεί χωρίς την αντιμετώπιση των βαθύτερων αιτιών της χειροτερεύσεως.
Πρωτεύουσα καμπάνιας.
Για την αντιμετώπιση αυτών των επειγόντων προβλημάτων, η κοινότητά μας θα ξεκινήσει μια μεγάλη εκστρατεία
κεφαλαίου για την άμεση επισκευή και συντήρηση του ναού. Ο στόχος της εκστρατείας είναι να συγκεντρώση ένα (1)
εκατομμύριο δολλάρια στα επόμενα δύο χρόνια για μία ειδικά- καθορισμένο χρηματοδότηση , με τουλάχιστον το ήμισυ
του απαραίτητου ποσού που απαιτείται εντός των επόμενων έξι μηνών. Μεγάλο μέρος του ποσού θα χρησιμοποιήται για
την πληρωμή των επείγουσών επισκευών που απαιτούνται σήμερα, με το υπόλοιπο (αν υπάρχει) να προορίζεται για τις
επισκευές και τις ανάγκες του μέλλοντος. Με τη βοήθεια του Κυρίου, το ταμείο θα συνεχίση να αυξάνεται μετά την
αρχική εκστρατεία του ενός εκατομμυρίου δολλαρίων, και θα εξελιχθή σε ένα σημαντικό επιχορίγηση κεφαλαίου (σαν
προίκα) που θα εξασφαλίσει τη δομική υγεία της εκκλησίας για τις μελλοντικές γενιές.
Λόγω του μεγέθους και τον επείγοντα χαρακτήρα αυτής της προκλήσεως, θα χρειασθούμε πολύ περισσότερο από μια
συνεισφορά για τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια, όπως θα μπορείτε να παρέχετε. Η τελική απόφαση για το πόσο να δωρίσετε είναι
σαφώς είναι μια προσωπική επιλογή. Όλες οι εισφορές, μικρές και μεγάλες, θα είναι ευπρόσδεκτες και ελπίζουμε ότι κάθε
μέλος της κοινότητας θα συμμετάσχη σε αυτή τη συλλογική προσπάθεια για τη διατήρηση της εκκλησίας μας. Αλλά για να
επιτύχη ο στόχος μας, θα είναι απαραίτητο η πλειοψηφία των οικογενειών της Αγίας Τριάδας να συνεισφέρη σε αυτήν την
εκστρατεία, και πολλά, αν όχι τα περισσότερα από αυτά θα πρέπει να καταβάλουν εισφορές που, πάνω από δύο χρόνια, θα
υπερβαίνουν τα 5.000 δολλάρια. Η συμβολή των 2.500 δολλαριών ανά έτος μπορεί να είναι δύσκολη, αλλά είναι αναγκαίο
για να συγκεντρωθοών αρκετά χρήματα εγκαίρως. Για να εκφράσουμε την ευγνωμοσύνη μας, αναμένουμε τη δημιουργία
μιας αναθεματικής πλάκας για το κοινότητά μας κέντρο που θα αναγνωρίζη υπερήφανα την κάθε δότη.
Τέλος, παρακαλούμε να θυμάστε ότι οι καθημερινές ανάγκες λειτουργίας της εκκλησίας μας εξακολουθούν να εξαρτώνται
στην τρέχουσα και γενναιόδωρη φροντιστεία και, ως εκ τούτου, ενώ οι πόροι για την εκστρατεία του κεφαλαίου θα είναι
αποκλειστικά αφιερωμένοι σε αυτό το έργο, τη δέσμευσή σας για να διατηρήσετε ταυτόχρονα φροντιστεία σας είναι
ζωτικής σημασίας για την χρηματοοικονομικής υγεία της εκκλησίας.

PARISH OUTREACH & EVANGELISM
The role of our Parish in Outreach & Evangelism is to promote and facilitate
programs, projects and initiatives in the local parish and community, in
keeping with the guidance of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, Department of
Outreach & Evangelism.
Within this guiding spirit of our Metropolis, Fr. Christos has organized a very
important Orthodox educational program that requires the support and
commitment of all of us.
1. Monday evenings: “A Commentary on the Book of Revelation”.
This class meets on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm beginning
with Monday, September 21, 2015. You are urged to join and
learn about this most important book of our New Testament, the
"Apocalypse".
Leader: Fr. Christos
2. Wednesday at noon: Bible Study. “The Book of Acts of the
Apostles”. Class meets on Wednesdays, at 12:30 to 2:00 pm.
Classes begin Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

Bible, and video programs relating to our Orthodox Faith.

3. Thursday afternoon: Instruction “Learn the New Testament
Greek Language”. Class meets on Thursdays at 5:00 pm to 6:30
pm.
An opportunity to learn to read the Bible in the original tongue,

and Evangelism includes our youth's efforts to support IOCC, the Holy Trinity
Food Pantry program, Philoptochos charities, the Emmanuel Dinning Room
programs at 3rd and Walnut and that of St. Elpida's "Feed the Needy" program
at Emmanuel Dinning Room.
As Orthodox Christians, it is our obligation to participate actively in Outreach
programs and to help the work of God on earth by returning a portion of our
blessings that we have received from Him. Those blessings may part of our
personal effort, our money, and or our talents.
We ask you to please support your Church's efforts by participating and
attending these classes and meetings and charitable activities, bring your
friends and family members to them.
