August 31, 2014
Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
From the Pastor’s Desk!
August 31, 2014
The Rectory Window Project is off to a very good start, currently we have
collected $27,995! Thank you to all who have contributed so generously to
this campaign. Unfortunately we are still a ways to our goal of $70,000 and
the winter winds will be upon us soon. As I have previously stated many of
the wood frames are rotted out and the hardware is no longer functioning…
so the time has come for them to be replaced. This price also includes
$5,000 to repair and replace some of the lintels above the windows which
need to be done before the new windows are put in.
A special Thank You to the following who have already contributed to the Window Fund…
Susan Wawzenski, Christopher Enger, Mary Louise Burns, Susan and Emilio Escobedo,
Bob and Peggy Lyons, Thomas Shields, Fr. Thomas May, David and Michaele Pokraka,
Knights of Columbus, John and Christine Flasza, Lucas and Elizabeth Greyerbiehl,
Ernest and Mary Kaminski, Anthony and Charlotte Lindauer, Jack C. McVickers, Joan Labak,
John and Eileen Frega, Burda Family, John and Judy Scully, Mary Anne and Bruno Walke,
Julija and Vladas Zukauskas, Trey and Jeanne VanDyke, David Jones, John J. Motycka,
Paul and Susan Kucera, Russell and Lorelei Phillip, John and Susie O’Brien, Walter Hanley,
Guy and Kathleen Moore, Anthony and Patricia Valosek, Mike and Nicole Hayes, Alice Stake,
Norbert and Sharon Schwartz, Karen and Jorge Blackaller, Sharmayne Stach, Dolores Tedesco,
Anthony and Jane Dolezal, Lawrence C. Prazak, Sallie and Mark Boge, Salvatore Muscarello,
Bob and Judy Finn, Judy Hannon, Cuevas Family, Elizabeth Sayban, Magee Family,
Mary and Michael McGillicuddy, Lucille Kawczynski, Casimir and Annabelle Downs,

Mary M. Ryan, Dr. Edwin J. Harris, John and Pat Trakselis, Angeline Wrobel, Kay Ehrhorn,
Margaret Sipiora and Marjorie Lewe.
I am also most grateful to The Building and Grounds Committee for all their hard work in
prioritizing the repairs to our Buildings but we do need the support of the entire parish. Please
help at the level you are able and know that Fr. Kris and I will remember you most thankfully
in our Night Prayers on those Cold Winter Nights.

INFANTS THROUGH TEENS!
Please consider selling your child’s/children’s gently
used fall/winter clothing, shoes, toys, books, sports
equipment, and baby equipment at our consignment
sale. Our (42nd!) sale will take place in the Parish
Center on Saturday, September 27th, from 9 am until
noon. (Sorry, but strollers and children under 13 will
not be permitted into the sale until 10:30!) Sellers
price and tag their items using tickets provided in the
seller packet. Seller packets will be available in the
narthex beginning with the Sept. 6/7 weekend (or email
to the address below to get a packet sooner). Bring
tagged items the afternoon/evening before the sale, and
we staff the sale.

50/50; our half is donated to crisis pregnancy centers.
A check is sent to the sellers about a week after the
sale.
Volunteers who work 3 hours (either during the sale or
the clean-up) are able to attend a pre-sale.

else interested in joining us.
It is to the National Shrine of
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini
located at 2520 N. Lakeview
Ave. in the Lincoln Park Area. A docent will talk to
us and guide us for the tour and afterward we will
have time on our own to view the museum and
spend time in the chapel. We will depart St. Mary
at noon on Wednesday, September 17th and leave
the shrine at 3pm. We will be carpooling and
parking is free. An entrance fee of 10.00 cash will
be collected ahead of time that day. If you are
willing to drive, that would be appreciated, too.
See you then, and bring a friend!

~ Preschool & All Day Kindergarten ~
Come join the St. Mary Family, which fosters respect, kindness, and strong family values. When
children enter St. Mary preschool or kindergarten, they become part of an established setting for learning.
Our preschool and kindergarten classrooms are not just add-ons or separate programs. They are an integral
part of the elementary school community and considered an important part of the learning continuum.

Annual Benefit Dinner for the Bishop Abramowicz Seminary
Fr. Kris invites you to support the Annual Benefit Dinner for the Bishop Abramowicz
Seminary on Sunday, September 7, 2014. The benefit dinner will take place at the
Westin O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont. The evening will start with cocktails and silent
auction at 5:00 pm followed by dinner at 6:00 pm.
Tickets are $175 per person.
The Bishop Abramowicz Seminary program is unique. Since September, 1999 it has annually recruited
seminarians in Poland who, with the approval of their respective bishops there, have each freely elected
to leave their native Poland with the idea of completing their seminary training here, first at the Bishop
Abramowicz Seminary program in Chicago, then at Mundelein Seminary.
Among those attending will be His Eminence Cardinal Francis George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago along
with the auxiliary bishops of Chicago. During the dinner Camille Kopielski will be honored with the Caritas
Christi Award.
For tickets and reservations please call Joan Trandel at 708-484-6513. For additional information call the
Very Rev. Jacek Wrona or Dorothy Lin at 312-915-0598.
A special thank you to our own parishioners, Ms. Joan Trandel for her involvement with the dinner and
Mr. Richard Tryba who tutors at Bishop Abramowicz.
Our Next 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration will take place on
Thursday, September 4th.

Hello St. Mary parishioners -- The refugee committee hopes you are enjoying a fun and
relaxing summer. As we give thanks for all the blessings we share daily, we ask that you
remember those that are not as fortunate, such as our two refugee families we are currently
sponsoring. The first family of seven, soon to be eight in the fall, is from the Democratic
Republic of Congo. They arrived on August 6th. Refugee camps were the only home they
knew. The second family of five is Rohingya, a persecuted religious minority, from Burma.
They were relocated on August 20th from a refugee camp in Malaysia.
This September 6th and 7th we will have a second collection to raise money for rental
assistance. Let’s welcome both families with open arms and a generosity of spirit for
which this community is known!
