Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been seated at God’s right hand in heaven, above every choir of angels. There might be a temptation to stay at an awed distance from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today’s readings is far from that temptation. The tone is exultant and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53). How can we continually praise God? The answer can be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians 1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be enlightened and empowered. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. KEEP THE WHEELS TURNING: PARK AND PRAY UPDATE The last few miles of any journey are always the most challenging. But our goal is in sight. Donations so far have topped $178,866.51 If you haven’t had a chance to consider this important project yet, there’s still time – but the sooner you can make a decision, the better. We’re suggesting a $400 per family donation, knowing that some families cannot afford this amount and others can afford to give more. Whatever you can do to help is much appreciated. St. Gianna Beretta Molla is a Roman Catholic Saint, canonized on May 16th, 2004 by his Holiness Pope John Paul II. Gianna was an Italian physician, a wife and a loving mother. She is best known for refusing both an abortion and a hysterectomy when she was pregnant with her fourth child, despite knowing that continuing with the pregnancy could result in her death. The canonization of Saint Gianna is the first of its kind. Many mothers have been beatified for their heroic virtues but they entered religious life after becoming widowed. In St Gianna’s case, she was a spouse and mother when she died. St. Gianna is the first canonized woman physician and professional who was also a “working mom”. St. Gianna is a patron saint for mothers, physicians, and unborn children. Pray for all Mothers today. Meditation Class/Mindfulness Practice Mindfulness is the art of living in the present moment. The practice of mindfulness has great healing potential for body and mind. This is very good for managing pain, stress, problem thoughts and emotions, and wayward impulses. For everyone, it offers great life enhancement. A large body of research shows how it reorganizes the brain in positive directions toward happy emotion, less sensitivity to pain, and long life. It is a spiritual practice for following the teachings of mystic John of the Cross. Our first hour and a half session will begin on Thursday, May 12 at 6:00 in the PCC. The sessions will continue each Thursday evening of May and June. Even if you didn't come to the discussion last week, you can start with the group this week. The classes are free, but there will be a basket for a free will donation. You may sign up online with Mary Jo Meadow ([email protected]) or at class. Wear comfortable clothing. You will sit on chairs. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF IN ECUADOR Catholic Relief Services and the people of Ecuador need your help… go to http://www.crs.org/stories/emergency-response. There are reports of widespread damage to buildings, roads and other infrastructure. Catholic Relief Services is there coordinating with several partners to assess the situation and provide necessary water, food, and emergency shelter for these devastated communities.
