PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Kia Ora everyone
It was wonderful to welcome the children back to school on Monday, the smiles and the stories about the holidays brought back the
energy and everyone settled back quickly into concentrating on their learning! We have another busy term ahead, information about
some of these are below however I encourage you to regularly visit our website www.kaiapoinorth.school.nz and to check that you are still
connected to our Twitter text system. If you haven’t received 4 texts from us since Sunday please text follow kaiapoinorth to 8987. You can
also follow us on Twitter online by searching for kaiapoinorth then click follow!
This Saturday is ANZAC DAY and we will be
proudly marching as a school in the Kaiapoi
Parade. A notice came home on Monday about
the details for the parade on Saturday, here are the
main details:
• please meet in full school uniform on Sewell
Street by the tennis courts at 9:30am
• we will march as a school and stand together
during the ANZAC service, children are to be
collected by an adult at the end of the service
from the area beside the band rotunda.
We would love to see over 100 KNS children
attending the service to match the 100 year
commemoration of the First World War. Our Year
7 and 8 students have been learning about
ANZAC DAY and will be sharing their learning
at this Friday’s 9am assembly. As part of their
learning they visited the Kaiapoi cenotaph and
also laid 30 crosses in our garden to
commemorate the Kaiapoi’s fallen soldiers from
the First World War. We look forward to our Year 7
and 8’s leading the assembly which will include a speech by Mr Neil Price from the RSA.
Our Jrock group have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming performance at the Horncastle Arena on Friday 15th May. It was
great to see their energy, enthusiasm and willingness to work together during their holiday practice - we are looking forward to seeing your
performance in a few week’s time! All the best to our Year 4, 5 and 6 KNS rugby teams who will all be playing 3 games against other
schools this Friday at the Cantabrian’s Rugby Fun Day!
Notification of our upcoming Teacher Only Day - Friday 29th May
Our teachers are continually working together to further develop our best practice. We will be continuing this development on Friday 29th
May where we will working with the staff from Woodend School and facilitators from Core Education. The school will be closed for the
children on Friday 29th May and the following Monday 1st June (Queen’s Birthday).
Request for assistance - due to strengthening issues our Board of Trustees is replacing our old boiler shed with a secondhand Versatile
garage. We have sourced one off Trade Me and need to deconstruct it this weekend to transport it to store while our boiler shed is removed
later in the term. If you would be able to lend a hand this weekend please contact Phil Wood on 021-033-5686.
It was great to meet with some parents on Tuesday about our Modern Learning Environment (MLE) developments. If you were
unable to attend this meeting but would like to make another time to meet with me please get in contact with me [email protected]

As indicated last term we are trialling sending newsletters home every 2 weeks instead of weekly to reduce the amount of paper
coming home from school after feedback from some parents. What we would really like is for parents/caregivers to get into the routine
of viewing our newsletters online using the link on our website - www.kaiapoinorth.school.nz This would enable you to view it at your
leisure, eliminate lost newsletters and also save many trees! At the bottom of this newsletter is a slip that you can cut and return if you still
want paper newsletters to be sent home to your household (a text reminder on the day they are written will be put on our website). Please
fill in and return it to school if you would like to continue to receive paper and or emailed newsletters. THIS WILL BE THE FINAL
NEWSLETTER SENT HOME IN HARD COPY TO YOU IF YOU DO NOT RETURN THIS.
YES, the ________________________________ family would like to continue to receive paper newsletters please.
At the end of last term and this week Koru Team has
continued their investigations into Autumn.
We have searched for signs of Autumn, read poems and
stories and posed questions to explore further.
The most popular question is Why do leaves change colour
in Autumn?
Some classes have worked on this and discovered the
answer. Perhaps you could investigate this at home as well.
Room 6 have been using pinecones to create bird feeders
for the Winter months.
