Πανοσιότατου Πρωτοσύγγελου Αρχιμανδρίτη
Απόστολου Κουφαλλάκη εορτάσθηκε στον ιερό
ναό του Τιμίου Σταυρού της Ελληνορθόδοξης
Κοινότητας Μπέλμοντ Καλιφόρνιας η Ημέρα
Των Ελληνικών Γραμμάτων.
Η τελετή της ημέρας ξεκίνησε με
τον Εσπερινό και εν συνεχεία με τις
ευλογίες Του Σεβασμιότατου Μητροπολίτη
Γεράσιμου και το καλωσόρισμα του Αιδ.Ιερέα
π.Παναγιώτη Σάλμα, άρχισε ο πανηγυρικός
εορτασμός της ημέρας. Με τη παρουσία τους
τίμησαν τη γιορτή μας ο Μητροπολίτης
Δαρδανελλίων Νικήτας, Αιδ.Ιερείς από τις
ενορίες της ευρύτερης περιοχής του Αγίου
Φραγκίσκου, ο Επίτιμος Πρόξενος της
Κυπριακής
Δημοκρατίας
κος
Νικόλαος
Θεοφάνους, η σύζυγος του Προξένου της
Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας κα Δήμητρα ΡασσιάΑνδρεάδη, ο κος Θεοφάνης Οικονομίδης,
Πρόεδροι και Μέλη των Τοπικών Οργανισμών,
Πανεπιστημιακοί Καθηγητές, Διευθυντές και
Δάσκαλοι Απογευματινών Σχολείων, Φίλοι και
Υποστηρικτές των Ελληνικών Γραμμάτων.
On Sunday, January 29th, with the initiative
of the San Francisco Metropolis and under the
guidance and supervision of His Eminence
Metropolitan Gerasimos and the ChancellorArchimandrite,
Apostolos
Koufallakis,
a
celebration for the Three Hierarchs took place at
the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in
Belmont,
California.
The ceremony and celebration began with
evening vespers, His Eminence Gerasimos’
blessings and the Welcoming Remarks of Rev.
Father Peter Salmas. There were many special
guests present at this important event including
His Eminence Metropolitan Nikitas of the
Dardanelles, Rev. Priests from the parishes of
the greater area of San Francisco, The Honorary
Consul of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikolaos
Theofanous, Mrs. Dimitra Rassia-Andreadis from
the Greek Consulate of San Francisco, Mr. Fanis
Ekonomides from the Metropolis of San
Francisco, University Teachers, Representatives
of Local Organizations as well as Principals and
Teachers of Afternoon-Greek-Schools and
Friends of Greek Letters.
The Key Note guest speaker was the
esteemed Dr. Anastasios Papadimitriou, the
Constantine and Georgeian Georgiou Endowed
Professor of Greek History and Executive Director
of the Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies
at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
He delivered a fascinating presentation entitled,
“From Caesarea: Understanding the World of the
Three Hierarchs and Their Importance for the
Present Day.”

CELEBRATION OF THE THREE HIERARCHS (CONT).
The Greek Education and Culture Committee of
the Metropolis of San Francisco organized the
1st Writing Contest and Exhibit of Students’ Art
Work from all the Greek Schools in our area
under the oversight and supervision of Mrs.
Theodora Kounalakis and Mrs. Ioanna
Lekkakou. Twenty six Greek School students
participated in this first-ever writing contest. All
students showed exceptional originality in their
work which was a true inspiration for our entire
community.

Κύριος ομιλητής της βραδιάς ο Δρ
Αναστάσιος Παπαδημητρίου, the Constantine
and Georgeian Georgiou Endowed Professor of
Greek History, and Executive Director of the
Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies at
The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, ο
οποίος παρουσίασε την ιδιαίτερα ενδιαφέρουσα
εισήγηση με θέμα «Από την Καισαρεία/ From
Caesarea” : Understanding the World of the
Three Hierarchs and Their Importance for the
Present Day.»
Η Επιτροπή Ελληνικής Παιδείας και
Πολιτισμού της Ιεράς Μητρόπολης Αγίου
Φραγκίσκου διοργάνωσε για την ημέρα τον
Πρώτο Διαγωνισμό Συγγραφής καθώς και
Έκθεση Ζωγραφικής για όλα τα ελληνικά
σχολεία της περιοχής με την επιμέλεια και τη
φροντίδα της κας. Θεοδώρας Κουναλάκη και
της κας. Ιωάννας Λεκκάκου. Στον Διαγωνισμό
Συγγραφής έλαβαν μέρος 26 μαθητές από το
Σχολείο Τίμιος Σταυρός-Μπέλμοντ Καλιφόρνια
με εξαιρετική έμπνευση και πρωτοτυπία.
Ακολούθησε η απονομή Βραβείων και Επαίνων
από τον Σεβασμιότατο Μητροπολίτη Γεράσιμο.

expressed His sincere congratulations to the
winners and all participants, gave His blessings
and wished all students and teachers to keep
drawing inspiration from the Three Hierarchs’
exceptional
life
and
work.
The traditional cutting of Vasilopita along with
the goodhearted wishes from His Eminence
ended the ceremony and was followed by a
beautiful reception, a promise and a wish that
this 1st Joint Celebration of the Greek Letters
Day will become an annual tradition.

δόθηκε στη μαθήτρια: Μαρίνα Ανδρεάδου.
We would also like to thank our guest speaker,
Mr. Tom Papadimitriou, Diamantis Kourkouzelis
for tech support, Mrs. Spiridoula Stauropoulou
for the delicious vasilopita, Katerina Vourthis,
Angela Sogas, Markos Kounalakis, Thalia
Hohenthal, and Tsitsinia-Papadopoulos family
for their help in the kitchen.
Finally, our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Theodora
Kounalakis and Mrs. Ioanna Lekkakou for their
tireless work in directing and overseeing the
evening’s events.

Ο Σεβασμιότατος ευχήθηκε εις Ανώτερα
στους βραβευθέντες και σε όλους τους
συμμετέχοντες και παρότρυνε τους μαθητές να
έχουν ως πυξίδα στο δρόμο τους προς τη
γνώση, το πολύπλευρο έργο των Τριών
Μεγάλων Διδασκάλων της Οικουμένης.
Στο πλαίσιο της Εκδήλωσης εντάχθηκε και το
παραδοσιακό
κόψιμο
της
Βασιλόπιτας Μικροί και μεγάλοι με χαμόγελα
δέχθηκαν τις ευλογίες και τις καλόκαρδες ευχές
του Σεβασμιότατου και η βραδιά έκλεισε με μια
πλούσια δεξίωση και την υπόσχεση ότι ο θεσμός
του κοινού πλέον Σχολικού εορτασμού της
Ημέρας των Ελληνικών Γραμμάτων θα
συνεχιστεί από τα ενοριακά Σχολεία της Ιεράς
Μητρόπολης Αγίου Φραγκίσκου με την ίδια και
μεγαλύτερη επιτυχία και απήχηση στις καρδιές
«ο δάσκαλος πρέπει κατά τους Τρεις
Ιεράρχες να είναι υπόδειγμα αρετής και να
διδάσκει με το παράδειγμά του»

will receive a donation.
