Transition to Amador Junior High Schedule • 7 Periods • Students go to each class every school day. • Each class is less than an hour. Amador High School Schedule • A/B Block Schedule • 8 Periods • Students go to 4 classes each day. (Periods 1, 3, 5, 7 one day and Periods 2, 4, 6, 8 the next day). • Each class is about an hour and a half. Your student can also focus on one 4 Year Elective Program and take select elective classes in other areas of interest in future years. An Overview of the Pre-registration Process 8th grade teachers make recommendation for ELA and math placement based on course criteria Parents/students attend 8th grade parent night to learn more about Amador’s educational program Counselors visit junior highs next Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and assist 8th grade students with completing the course request form Counselors finalize student schedules throughout the summer. Students return course request forms to junior high office by January 29th. Students take course request form home for parent review 9th grade students pick up schedule during Freshmen Orientation on Friday, August 5th. Parents contact junior high teacher if they have questions/concerns about the recommendation. Contact high school counselors for any other questions. All Intradistrict Transfer Requests must be submitted by March 1st, 2016! Course Criteria: ELA English 9/Read 180 English 9 CP English 9 Scholarship Designed as a daily Intensive English/reading support course (double blocked). Designed as a college prep English course. Designed to prepare students for the rigor of AP courses and college. Students interested in going directly to a 4 year university/college are encouraged to attempt. For students who traditionally score Below Basic or Far Below Basic on tests and struggle with reading. For students who traditionally score Basic, Proficient, or Advanced on tests and/or typically have a C or better in Language Arts. For students who traditionally score Proficient or Advanced on tests and/or typically have a B or better in Language Arts. Course Criteria: Math Algebra I G Algebra I CP Geometry CP Designed to prepare students to take Algebra I CP the following year. Designed as a college prep math course. Designed for students who plan to take AP Calculus as a senior. For students who have basic arithmetic skills and are not ready for the rigor of Algebra I CP. For students who earn a strong “B” or better in pre-algebra and are recommended by junior high teacher. For students who complete Algebra I CP with a “B” or better and are recommended by junior high math teacher. Computer Literacy/Drivers Ed Scholarship/Advanced Placement (AP) vs. College Prep (CP) Courses Important Considerations: • Level of difficulty • Current/past achievement level • Personal interest/motivation • College goals • Time management • Work and study habits • Other commitments Post-Secondary Preparation • Please review the comparison chart to make informed course selections. • Counselors will be available in the gym to answer specific questions about preparing for a variety of post-secondary options. 9th Grade 4 Year Plan Night August 3rd, 2016 Course Selection Sheet • Please make a note of the English and Math class that seem most appropriate for your child. • Your child’s science recommendation will be based on the math recommendation. • Compare with the recommendation that will be given by the junior high teacher later this week. • Contact your child’s junior high teacher to discuss any concerns about their recommendation. Please note: Recommendations are subject to change based on your child’s 8th Grade Spring academic performance. Athletics Participation Kaleb Cagle, Athletic Director • All students who plan to participate in athletics must complete the following each year: Athletic Packet Available for pick up and completion this Spring. Packets will be delivered to junior highs and will be available at Amador. Athletic Physical Amador will host an athletic physical day in May. Physical day will be announced at the junior highs.
