The Senior Club’s Christmas
Party was a lot of fun. We had a DJ and everyone
danced and sang to the music. What a nice way
to celebrate the Christmas season.

FOOD PANTRY
The Angel Tree will stay up until
December 13th. Toys will be distributed to the children of the families who use the
Food Pantry on Wednesday, December 16th.
During the month of November, we were able to
feed 460 people.
The Angel Tree for Christmas toys and gifts will be
up until December 16th. Please be an angel and
take a tag for a child in need of a gift.
PLEASE DO NOT WRAP THE GIFT.
Place the gift under the tree no later than Monday
December 14th. We have 70 children (40 boys and
30 girls) this year ranging in ages from 2-15 years
old. Thank you to all of our generous parishioners.

HE ROLE OF THE CHURCH IN THE YEAR OF MERCY
Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life. All of her pastoral activity should be caught up in the
tenderness she makes present to believers; nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be
lacking in mercy. The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate
love. The Church “has an endless desire to show mercy.” Perhaps we have long since forgotten how to
show and live the way of mercy. The temptation, on the one hand, to focus exclusively on justice made us
forget that this is only the first, albeit necessary and indispensable step. But the Church needs to go beyond and strive for a higher and more important goal. On the other hand, sad to say, we must admit that
the practice of mercy is waning in the wider culture. In some cases the word seems to have dropped out of
use. However, without a witness to mercy, life becomes fruitless and sterile, as if sequestered in a barren
desert. The time has come for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return
to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters. Mercy is the force that
reawakens us to new life and instils in us the courage to look to the future with hope.
The Church is commissioned to announce the mercy of God, the beating heart of the Gospel, which in its
own way must penetrate the heart and mind of every person. The Spouse of Christ must pattern her behavior after the Son of God who went out to everyone without exception. In the present day, as the Church is
charged with the task of the new evangelization, the theme of mercy needs to be proposed again and again
with new enthusiasm and renewed pastoral action. It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the
credibility of her message that she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her gestures must
transmit mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and inspire them once more to find the road that
leads to the Father.
The Church’s first truth is the love of Christ. The Church makes herself a servant of this love and mediates
it to all people: a love that forgives and expresses itself in the gift of oneself. Consequently, wherever the
Church is present, the mercy of the Father must be evident. In our parishes, communities, associations and
movements, in a word, wherever there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy.

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Third Sunday of Advent
Pope Francis chose to inaugurate the Jubilee Year of Mercy last Tuesday because December 8 marks the
fiftieth anniversary of the closing of Vatican II. That council, Pope Francis reminds us, inaugurated a new
phase in the Church's history. The Spirit called the Church to tear down the walls that for far too long had
made it a fortress, and to proclaim the gospel in a new, more accessible way. Pope Francis quotes Saint
John XXIII in declaring the Church's preference for "the medicine of mercy," and Blessed Paul VI in proposing the Good Samaritan as our model for discipleship (Misericordiae Vultus, 4). Pope Francis adds
that God's mercy is "the beating heart of the Gospel," and that mercy "must penetrate the heart and mind"
of every disciple (MV, 12). Three times today's Gospel asks, "What should I do?" Pope Francis would
say: Imitate Jesus, who came not wielding the fiery judgment that John the Baptist had threatened, but

give it to the American Legion to ship the items we

LA IGLESIA Y EL ANNO DE MISERICORDIA
La misericordia es el fundamento mismo de la vida de la Iglesia. Toda su acción pastoral debe ser atrapada en la ternura que hace presente a los creyentes; nada en su predicación y en su testimonio ante el
mundo puede faltar en misericordia. Credibilidad misma de la Iglesia se ve en la forma en que muestra
el amor misericordioso y compasivo. La Iglesia "tiene un deseo sin fin de mostrar misericordia." Tal vez
hemos olvidado desde hace mucho tiempo cómo mostrar y vivir el camino de la misericordia. La tentación, por una parte, para centrarse exclusivamente en la justicia nos hizo olvidar que esto es sólo el primero, aunque paso necesario e indispensable. Pero la Iglesia tiene necesidad de ir más allá y luchar por
una meta más alta y la más importante. Por otro lado, es triste decirlo, tenemos que admitir que la práctica de la misericordia está disminuyendo en la cultura en general. En algunos casos, la palabra parece
haber caído en desuso. Sin embargo, sin un testigo de la misericordia, la vida se vuelve inútil y estéril,
como si secuestrado en un desierto estéril. Ha llegado la hora de que la Iglesia a tomar la llamada gozosa
a la misericordia una vez más. Es hora de volver a lo básico y de soportar las debilidades y luchas de
nuestros hermanos y hermanas. La misericordia es la fuerza que nos despierta a una nueva vida e infunde en nosotros la valentía de mirar hacia el futuro con esperanza.
La Iglesia se encargó de anunciar la misericordia de Dios, el corazón del Evangelio, el cual a su
manera, debe penetrar el corazón y la mente de cada persona. La Esposa de Cristo, su patrón debe comportamiento después de que el Hijo de Dios, que fue a todos sin excepción. En el día de hoy, como la
Iglesia está a cargo de la tarea de la nueva evangelización, el tema de la misericordia debe ser propuesto
y otra vez con nuevo entusiasmo y la acción pastoral renovado. Es absolutamente esencial para la Iglesia
y para la credibilidad de su mensaje de que ella misma vive y den testimonio de la misericordia. Su lenguaje y sus gestos deben transmitir la misericordia, para tocar los corazones de todas las personas e inspirar a ellos una vez más para encontrar el camino que conduce al Padre.
Primera verdad de la Iglesia es el amor de Cristo. La Iglesia a siervo de este amor y media a todas las personas: un amor que perdona y se expresa en el don de sí mismo. En consecuencia, siempre
que la Iglesia está presente, la misericordia del Padre debe ser evidente. En nuestras parroquias, comunidades, asociaciones y movimientos, en una palabra, donde hay cristianos, cada uno debe encontrar un
oasis de misericordia.

Tercer Domingo de Adviento
El Papa Francisco eligió inaugurar el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia el pasado martes porque el 8 de
diciembre marca el quincuagésimo aniversario de la clausura del Concilio Va cano II. El Papa Francisco nos
recuerda que el Concilio inauguró una fase en la historia de la Iglesia. El Espíritu llamó a la Iglesia a derrumbar muros que la habían hecho una fortaleza por mucho empo, y a proclamar el Evangelio en un modo
nuevo y más accesible. El Papa Francisco cita a san Juan XXIII declarando la “preferencia por la medicina de
la misericordia” de la Iglesia, y al beato Pablo VI proponiendo “al Buen Samaritano como nuestro modelo
de discipulado” (Misericordiae Vultus, 4). El Papa Francisco añade: “la misericordia de Dios es el corazón
palpitante del Evangelio” y que esa misericordia debe “alcanzar la mente y el corazón” de cada discípulo
(MV, 12). En el Evangelio de hoy, tres veces se pregunta “¿Qué tenemos que hacer?” El Papa Francisco diría: Imita a Jesús, quien vino no empuñando el juicio de fuego que Juan el Bau sta anunciaba, sino en su
