ABOUT US Europe’s Famous Hostels was created in 1995 to promote member hostels across Europe. Originally called "The Famous Five", with only 5 members, it grew over the years and renamed itself "Europe’s Famous Hostels" to reflect this. In 2013 there are 37 members. The association’s purpose is to benefit its members through a network of independent hostels, all equal to each other. The word "famous" is well recognized by our customers as a guarantee to have a great stay at unbeatable value. All our hostels are safe, secure and clean. 1. INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com ONLINE In 2012 the Famous Hostels website received 360,000 visits, and attracted over 274,000 visitors. It is developed and hosted by the award winning Beds & Bars Web Studio. Summer 2012 saw our fantastic mobile site successfully launched, enabling access to our travel news, reviews, hostel information and bookings on the move. We also provide a platform for booking tours, groups, news from our social networking sites and our online travel magazine. Every member has a vote, and every member is equal. The Executive is a voluntary position to oversee the running of the association and make decisions on the member’s behalf. The Executive positions are open to every member. · The Executive and Coordinator have a monthly meeting on matters concerning the association – minutes are sent to all members. · All members are welcome to attend Executive meetings and join in. · All members sign a "Constitution" for the association, agreeing to abide by the rules of the association. The Constitution is legally binding and a majority member vote is required to make any changes to it. · The Executive is elected annually, with the Chairman staying 2 years. · The accounts are managed by our Treasurer and audited annually by an external accountant. · Membership fees are required to be paid promptly on invoice. The commissions made through bookings are repaid monthly to EFH from Hostelbookers, and repaid to the hostels by EFH annually. 4. New members are expected to make an effort to know other members in the network, especially their neighboring hostels: we are a support network for each other. That means we expect… · You will promote EFH and your city · You will attend the AGM and Staff Training · Your staff will tell each guest about EFH · Your Flyers will have an EFH logo on the front · Your website will have the EFH logo · You will go the extra mile for your neighboring EFH hostels, tell your guests about them and take bookings for them · You will display EFH merchandise · You will give 2 free nights per year for EFH competitions · Your email signatures will mention the network · Your website will have a link to www.famoushostels.com 5. INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com OUR HOSTEL STANDARDS Each hostel maintains the association’s standards to form a brand that is trusted. Our hostels are award winning, safe, and have the best ratings and reviews from independent backpackers - an average over all our hostels of 91% on Hostelworld.com. We expect hostels to maintain these standards, and make a maximum effort to keep their overall, staff and cleanliness ratings as high as possible. 6. INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com MERCHANDISING The feedback from hostels at our Staff Training was to have more individual hostel merchandise. We now have merchandise per region, as well as generic flyers and posters for the network. · · A large panel of different items sent to you. There’s a google drive with all designs available for download. · 7. More specific items per hostel available, including tshirts and postcards for each location. Flyers for EFH sent to over 50 hostels. INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com ONLINE PROMOTIONS NEWSLETTERS We send regular newsletters to promote our brand, run competitions and promotions, and generate bookings. Any content you send we can feature on these. We also have featured slots on the St Christopher’s ezine and Flying Pigs newsletter, with a database of over 400,000. The next step is to sell space to cross promote travel related products. Open rates around 22% 8. Please make sure you display EFH merchandise and marketing material to help promote the network: · EFH Flyers Postcards, Regional posters & “Go my way” displayed in each hostel · ‘Internet Café’ Next Stay website free on hostel terminals and Wi-Fi · EFH Logo and Europe Map displayed · Front desk staff and managers informed · We invite all members to visit other hostels. Your staff receive a 50% discount when they stay at another member’s hostel – this is reciprocal. 9. INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com SOCIAL NETWORKING One of the primary aims of our network, and an important mission of every member, is cross marketing. We have many platforms, but only the members can make it happen by getting involved. WHY SOCIAL MEDIAS ARE IMPORTANT: · To promote the EFH network and the hostels within it · To keep in contact with guests and encourage their return · The easiest promotional channel (free, fun, fast) · Online presence, it’s your public image we are promoting EASY TO DO: · Post on the EFH Page and your page with promos, events &news. · Keep your social medias alive with news, music & photos. 10 INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS famoushostels.com BE INVOLVED One of the first aims of our network is cross marketing. We enable and help this, but only the members can make it happen. You have to be involved. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING » This is hosted annually by a hostel, all members should attend (with a paid contribution) and share their thoughts and opinions. You have a vote to use! ARTICLES /CONTENT /EVENTS /PROMOTIONS » Send us articles about your city, about your hostel, events in your city. » Let us know what happens – share photos on Pinterest, our blog, your blog. » Share your promotions with us – we can publish these on the website.
