| | A N N U A L R E P O RT For fiscal year July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013 | Thank you for making our mission possible Our Mission Berks Catholic High School is centered on the four pillars of God, Family, Academics, and Fun. As a vibrant Christ-centered community, the Administration, Faculty, and Staff are dedicated to providing a challenging academic environment for a diverse population of young men and women. Through Christian principles, rooted in the Catholic tradition, we strive to positively impact our students spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally, so they can live productive lives of service in this world and attain eternal life. Thank you for your trust in Berks Catholic High School. Thank you for believing in our mission to teach the Gospel values. Your partnership with us keeps that mission vibrant and our future bright. Our second year was a continuation of the great success we had in our inaugural year. Our four pillars of God, Family, Academics, and Fun are firmly embedded in all that we do. We have sent the Saints of 2013 off into the world to accomplish great things. Ninety-five percent of the Class of 2013 has continued their education in college, and they were collectively awarded over 9.8 million dollars in academic scholarships. We have graduates discerning the priesthood and religious life, and others who have entered the military, technical schools, and who are exploring gap years involving service. Our students have grown spiritually by attending Mass as a community, performing thousands of hours of service, and attending retreats, and they are recognizing and understanding what vocation the Lord is calling them toward. School Motto Unum in Christo “One in Christ” School Colors Black and Gold Principal Tony Balistrere, M.Ed. Asst. Principals Alice Einolf, M.Ed. Bill Hess, M.Ed. Our students have grown closer as a Berks Catholic Family by enthusiastically supporting each other at sporting events, music, art and various other competitions. More importantly, they have experienced all of the emotions that a close family feels -- love, anger, laughter, tears, joy, heartache, fear and courage -- and in turn how to appropriately deal with each of these feelings. Our Baccalaureate mass at St. Ignatius Loyola Church was a beautiful depiction of our spiritual family, as were the cheering section at the Sovereign Center for the County Boys Basketball Championship, the class trip to Six Flags, the Prom, and the extraordinary production of Beauty and the Beast. As our motto proudly states, “Unum in Christo,” One in Christ, all of these are examples of what family is all about: being there for each other, being filled with emotions, and experiencing all that God has planned for us. Enrollment* 722 students (49% male – 51% female) Minority – 31% (221) Non-Catholic – 30% (214) I am eager to continue my journey with the Saints at Berks Catholic. I am convinced that your investment in Berks Catholic produces young men and women who will be catalysts for good wherever they live. I thank you for being a believer and a partner in our mission. Your prayers, financial support and encouragement make the success of our mission a reality. God Bless you and your family, and Go Saints! As an alumnus of Holy Name with parents who graduated from Central Catholic and Reading Catholic and four children who currently attend Berks Catholic and Sacred Heart School, I am deeply committed to the catholic school traditions of Berks County. Keeping my children in Catholic school has always been a top priority for me. Knowing that their education is grounded in Christian values where faith and prayer are at the heart of each day and every lesson is deeply comforting and an invaluable gift. As a parent, alumnus, and now as Director of Development, I am so grateful to each and every one of you, our benefactors, for believing in the impact that a Berks Catholic education can have on a student. An education rooted in strong tradition and founded on the four pillars -- God, Family, Academics, and Fun – produces young adults ready to embrace a world where putting God first will serve them well and lead them to live successful, fulfilling and productive lives. As a parent, I want that for my own children. As Director of Development, I want to help make that possible for every Berks Catholic student, and I realize that this would not be possible without your continued support. The Saints Fund is the cornerstone of philanthropic giving at Berks Catholic High School. The Saints Fund is a dependable source of unrestricted gifts that can be applied to the areas of greatest need. Student scholarships and financial aid, curriculum enhancement, athletics, and arts and music resources are just some examples of support provided by the fund. It is vital that the Saints Fund continues to grow in order for Berks Catholic to be able to provide an excellent education in a Christ-centered environment to students in Berks County. This annual two-day event is our biggest social fun-draiser that both celebrates and advances the mission of Berks Catholic High School. We began on Friday evening with Preview Night where parents, alumni and friends bid on silent auction items and the homeroom basket auction. On Saturday evening, the dinner and live auction was held, which included hors d’oeuvres, open bar, silent and live auctions, raffle drawing, music and entertainment. The co-chairs were Fred and Barb Ciabattoni and Jon and Annie DiCerchio. Extravaganza 2012 was a great success and raised over $161,000, of which $42,250 was raised through the Emotional Appeal to enhance the spiritual lives of students through the theology curriculum at Berks Catholic. All funds raised at Extravaganza go directly back into the school. Extravaganza provides a great opportunity for members of the Berks Catholic community to come together to celebrate the mission and vision of Berks Catholic.
