Parish Contributions
It was Bishop Ricken’s birthday in November. At the same
time, a generous parishioner donated a new CD player/
recorder for our parish sound system. That gave us an idea.
Let’s have our students make a short CD birthday present for
the Bishop. The students sang “Happy Birthday.” They then
sang “Shine Jesus Shine,” which most of them know from
doing Bravo performances. They do a great job with that
song! We ended with “Ad Multos Annos,” a short Latin
piece which the Bishop would have known from his
seminary days. It is a song done to honor a person, wishing
them many more years. I was surprised to get a personal call
from the Bishop a week later thanking me for the gift, and I
passed on his gratitude to the students. He was very
impressed with the energy of “Shine Jesus Shine,” and the
fact that kids sang “Ad Multos Annos.”
Then came the surprise. Bishop Ricken asked if he could
come to our school and have Mass with our students. On
Wednesday, April 2, at 8:45 am, Bishop Ricken will be at
Holy Cross Church for an all-school Mass. This is a very
exciting event for Kaukauna Catholic School System. If you
are free, I encourage you to come and participate. It’s a great
way to support our school, our students and our teachers. Our
school is excellent and is a great way to help parents raise
their children in the Catholic faith. As your pastor, it is
always a pleasure to share these special events with the entire
parish. Please keep our school in your prayers.

CRS Rice Bowl Reflection: Philippines
We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching
principle, Option for the Poor, and reminded of Jesus’
words: “Whatever you did for these least of mine, you did
for me.” Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters
in the Philippines and all around the world, that we see the
Face of Christ in the poor among us.
Thank You for 2014 Paschal Candle
Thank you to Sharon and Larry Woldt who have generously
donated the 2014 Paschal candle in memory of Ethel and
Floyd Dreger. Prayers go with all of you.
Lending a Hand for the Emergency Shelter
Thank you for your continued donations to
the Emergency Shelter for the needs of the
children and basic shelter needs. Bins and a
listing of needed items will remain at church
entrances through March 30. The Kaukauna
Catholic Social Concerns Ministry appreciates you.

Time to Send In Holy Land Deposits
If you want to be part of the Holy
Cross Pilgrimage to the Holy
Land in November, it’s time to
get your deposits in. Pope
Francis is going to the Holy Land
in May, so Israel is going to
become even more popular. Call Kim at 766-3773 for info
or registration form. Brochures are also at church entrances.
“One Spirit, One Church” CDs Available
Copies of this beautiful CD are available in the rectory for
just $20. Two Lenten melodies, sung by the Niquettes, would
be especially appropriate during this season of reflection.

possible. A light breakfast will be served around 9:15 am.
“Christ Renews His Parish” is
for everyone 18 or older. You’re
never too old to participate in
this truly inspirational weekend.

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.” John 4:13
Jesus reminds us that material things, even
something as basic as water, can never satisfy us
for long. When we build our lives around
material possessions, we always want more.
True satisfaction comes when we follow Jesus.

4 | Welcome to Holy Cross Parish · Jesus Loves You Very Much
As we begin this third Sunday of Lent, we are leading up to the halfway mark to Easter
Sunday. On Ash Wednesday, we began our Lenten journey and our personal embarking
to be closer to Jesus Christ. This may be a good time to morally reflect and see how we
are doing on our journey. Students have been returning their footprints with their Lenten
practices marked. Check out all the Church entrances to see their footprints.

A Message From Fr. Tom About Boy Scouts
Did you know that Holy Cross Parish is
the supporter of a local boy scout
troop: Troop 31? A couple of years
ago, we celebrated the 75th anniversary
of their troop. They have been holding
meetings in Friendship Hall for well
over 30 years. We just re-chartered the
troop in February, and I thought I would update you on
things they do.
Recently, they had their winter campout at Camp Christus
in Clintonville. They did winter activities, such as snowshoeing. One scout completed his Polar Bear Challenge,
which means he built a shelter and stayed outside for 24
hours in the cold.
On February 24, there was a Court of Honor and all the
scouts received their badges. Of course, this included an
ice cream social. Three new boys joined the troop in
February. Their campouts and projects are great, especially
the week-long summer camp.
Troop 31 meets each Monday from 6:30-8:00 pm in
Friendship Hall. All boys, grade 5 through completion of
their senior year, are welcome. If you are interested, stop
in or contact Scout Master Rene Petit at 766-9688.
KCSS News
