Parish Contributions It was Bishop Ricken’s birthday in November. At the same time, a generous parishioner donated a new CD player/ recorder for our parish sound system. That gave us an idea. Let’s have our students make a short CD birthday present for the Bishop. The students sang “Happy Birthday.” They then sang “Shine Jesus Shine,” which most of them know from doing Bravo performances. They do a great job with that song! We ended with “Ad Multos Annos,” a short Latin piece which the Bishop would have known from his seminary days. It is a song done to honor a person, wishing them many more years. I was surprised to get a personal call from the Bishop a week later thanking me for the gift, and I passed on his gratitude to the students. He was very impressed with the energy of “Shine Jesus Shine,” and the fact that kids sang “Ad Multos Annos.” Then came the surprise. Bishop Ricken asked if he could come to our school and have Mass with our students. On Wednesday, April 2, at 8:45 am, Bishop Ricken will be at Holy Cross Church for an all-school Mass. This is a very exciting event for Kaukauna Catholic School System. If you are free, I encourage you to come and participate. It’s a great way to support our school, our students and our teachers. Our school is excellent and is a great way to help parents raise their children in the Catholic faith. As your pastor, it is always a pleasure to share these special events with the entire parish. Please keep our school in your prayers. Tom About Boy Scouts Did you know that Holy Cross Parish is the supporter of a local boy scout troop: Troop 31? A couple of years ago, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of their troop. They have been holding meetings in Friendship Hall for well over 30 years. We just re-chartered the troop in February, and I thought I would update you on things they do. Recently, they had their winter campout at Camp Christus in Clintonville. They did winter activities, such as snowshoeing. One scout completed his Polar Bear Challenge, which means he built a shelter and stayed outside for 24 hours in the cold. On February 24, there was a Court of Honor and all the scouts received their badges. Of course, this included an ice cream social. Three new boys joined the troop in February. Their campouts and projects are great, especially the week-long summer camp. Troop 31 meets each Monday from 6:30-8:00 pm in Friendship Hall. All boys, grade 5 through completion of their senior year, are welcome. If you are interested, stop in or contact Scout Master Rene Petit at 766-9688.
