Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Virgin Statue at St. Bernard Appleton This Sunday, July 20 10:00 am Holy Mass (with procession) 11:15 or 11:30 am Presentation by Statue Custodian 12:30 pm Scapular Enrollment 1:00 pm Rosary 1:45 pm Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2:15 pm Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary 2:30 pm Eucharistic Adoration 3:45 pm Benediction 4:00 pm Farewell Procession In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us of the strength of the mustard seed. Although it is small and seemingly insignificant, it grows into the largest of plants. The Kingdom of Heaven can begin in just the same way: a word of welcome, a hello, a smile to a stranger or a small act of charity can be that seed sprouting into the Kingdom where that stranger can find a home. If we genuinely ask about the neighbor’s sick spouse, that small seed of charity will allow the neighbor to grow in the Kingdom. When we bring a bowl of soup or cookies to the elderly neighbor next door and spend some quality time with them, we allow that seed to take root. Last Thursday, we welcomed home the Colorado Outdoor Leadership participants and team. Through prayer and praise these young adults, supported by a strong faithful team, came to know the love of God in a unique and personal way. If you see Jane Vanden Boogart or Jim VandeHey, thank them for their efforts in bringing about this retreat. Indeed, the seed of faith has been planted. May this Holy Cross community continue to nourish the seed by reaching out in faith and love to these retreat participants. Thank you for your continued prayer as we cultivate strong Catholic leaders. When God is at the center of our life and present in our relations with others, we live in harmony. There is respect, justice, patience, sympathy and compassion. There is hope, and there is love. These little daily efforts that may go unnoticed are the seeds of the Kingdom of Heaven. Dear Parishioners of Holy Cross, As many of you likely know, last November I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Leukemia and almost immediately began intense chemotherapy to combat the disease. After three rounds of that treatment in Appleton, I got the good news that I had a matching stem cell donor and would be transplanted in early May. As of July 8th, a little over a month before originally projected, I was discharged back home to Kaukauna as my recovery has gone exceedingly well so far. I’ll admit that there were a lot of very dark and rough times throughout the process, and that is why I want to thank each and every one of you who were praying for me and thinking about me during these last seven months. Even with the genius and prowess of the various medical staffs that cared for me, I know that Divine Intervention from God and a huge support system praying for me – including people that I don’t even know – is what pulled me through. Recovery is not over by a long shot, so I do hope that you continue to keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers as we continue this journey. Once again, on behalf of my family and myself, THANK YOU. ~ Corey J. Van Epern Family Day at Camp Tekakwitha Saturday, September 13, from 10:30 am - 7:00 pm A few Holy Cross parishioners attended Family Day two years ago, and they had a great time. One of the kids received a free week at Camp! The Green Bay Diocese is planning another great day this year! Registration is required by September 4. You can register online at www.gbdioc.org/familydayatcamp. Sailing and canoeing Games and Treasure Hunt Arts and Crafts Mass and Family Time Wanted: Parish Lay Ministry Leaders Are you called to serve in one of these areas: pastoral care, liturgy, faith formation of children, youth and adults, or administration of the parish’s resources? Let Us Be Sowers of Good Seed “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field…He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom.”- Matthew 13:24, 37-38 As God’s children, we are all “good seeds,” blessed with the potential to accomplish much good in the world. We fulfill God’s plan when we share our talents and our financial gifts to help build God’s kingdom on earth.
