Jacob Moneypenny Daniel Conrad Lauren Farnsworth Katie Stout Jacob Moneypenny: “Go sleigh riding!” Daniel Conrad: “Play in the snow!” Lauren Farnsworth; “Drink hot chocolate and play in the snow.” Katie Stout: “Sleep in and just relax.” WVU Football Scores Big Win in 2012 Orange Bowl This year the West Virginia University Mountaineers had Dana Holgorsen as head coach. This was his first year as coach after their old coach Bill Stewart’s resignation. The Mountaineers had a winning season with a record of 10-3, losing only to LSU, Syracuse, and Louisville. The Mountaineers were picked to play Clemson in the Orange Bowl on January 4, 2012. Everyone thought Clemson would triumph, but the Mountaineers surprised them all, beating the Tigers with a record breaking score of 70-33. The Mountaineers had a good season and hopefully will have another one next year. V O LUME 2 , I SSUE 1 1 P AGE 2 Patriots Illustrated The boys’ Patriot basketball team won the Holiday Hoopla Tournament for the second time. The sixth and seventh grade “all teamers” were Thomas Hogan and Austin Hughes. The eight grade’s “all teamers” were Damien White and Austin Skinner. The eight grade girls’ basketball team won their tournament, also. Brooklyn Perkey and Savannah Chapman won the all team trophy. Eighth grade girls lost against Lumberport. Eighth grade boys won against Lumberport 38-37 in overtime. The wrestling team went 3-2 at West Fairmont High School last weekend. On Monday, both seventh and eighth grade boys won. BD: Fly / BW: Fly Book Review: The Hollow by Jessica Verday The Hollow by Jessica Verday is a book about a young girl named Abbey who lives in the town Sleepy Hollow. Abbey is heartbroken when her best friend, Kristen is found dead in the river where they used to hang out all the time. At Kristen’s funeral, Abbey meets a boy named Caspian, and she can’t get him off her mind. Then Abbey finds something out about her best friend that she never knew. CS: Why do you teach music? TD: Because I really enjoy music. CA: What’s your favorite instrument? TD: The trombone. Famous Person of the Week: Ben Roethlisberger Benjamin Todd “Ben” Roethlisberger Nickname: Big Ben Date of Birth: March 2, 1982 Place of Birth: Lima, Ohio Height & Weight: 6’ 5” & 241 pounds Ben is the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. He has been a football player since 2004. Roethlisberger played at Miami University while he was in college. In 2004, he won the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He got his first Pro Bowl in 2007. Ben became the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history. He helped lead the Steelers in his first pro season.
